TIME OUT

the 25th of November being the schedulement for the 2nd quarter examination, MSLU learners did the very best to complete each subject with a hinting break being the price afterward. To everyone’s dismay, no news of such were disseminated leading to great confusion. As proven, the aim of semestral break is for the sole goodness of students, yet it seems MSLU has other plans seemingly disregarding the existence of aforementioned break.

Inline with education, midterm break serves as a great asset for learners to relax and replenish their energy. However, as the November dates nearly comes to an end, Maryknoll School of Lupon did not leave an announcement regarding a mid-break for all grade levels. Thus, causing for several students to be bitter, expressing the need to take enough week distance away from academic pressures. Contrast to this, the administration strongly affirms the school had enough academic pauses, from the very start of October. As the school had different events prior each month like DMACSAM and Intramurals, it is evident enough how on the course of 1st semester, there is more fun activities than ardouos work to be done.

Furthermore, as there are

only 8 months this school year, every schedule is packed and rushed. Hence, the school compromises to a solution of taking into consideration the events as also a leisure break for students with the combination of learning and pursuing personal fulfillments. Therefore, it is enough reasoning to say there is no need for a semester break.

In conclusion, the midterm break is more than a hiatus from school; it is also a ground for personal and social growth. Since it is primarily a school who significantly focuses on academic, why not give students an assignment to do while on their pause week. With the combination of rest and study, students can set goals, prepare upcoming projects, and to resume fully ready.

EDITORIAL BOARD

Unforseen Predicaments

An abrupt change to the operation for the competition in the photojournalism category took place in the recent DSPC held in Baganga National Highschool on November 19-24, 2024. Instead of having eliminations composed of three rounds for the selection of qualifiers for the RSPC 2024, only one round was held. Lack of attentive management is not solely the matter but also the chance to result in an imprudent selection of winners due to being unable to attest their consistency.

The eliminations were firmly built to test the capabilities and potentials of each competitor to remain outstanding throughout several stages. Only those chosen ones who possess the rightful qualities can proceed to the following rounds; therefore, competent ones are to be selected. Hence, with this set-up, the appointment of the most deserving participants is quite vague; they are most likely to take unfit spots.

Moreover, the organizers’ lack of management skills is undeniably witnessed, revealing their weakness in creating a responsible operation. In fact, there were multiple errors and changes to the schedule during the days of the event, engulfing everyone in disappointment. This sort of disarray had established the unpleasant venture for the individuals who put in an effort to join the said event and had their hopes vanished.

The mess that occurred in the DSPC 2024 has affected the entirety of the event, from the attendees to the organization, and especially to the selection of victors. Now that everything is done and cannot be changed, the responsible individuals should extend their effort to ensure the consistency and competency of selected campus journalists who will be representing the division of Davao Oriental. I truly believe that their winning is not questionable, but a proper honing is necessary as they will be facing a bigger challenge.
