The Precollege Division of Manhattan School of Music is a highly competitive and professionally oriented Saturday music program, dedicated to the musical and personal growth of talented young musicians ages 5 to 18. The program provides musical education of the highest quality within a nurturing environment. Students are accepted into the program by audition only.

PROGRAM A typical program of study includes a 60-minute private lesson, classes in theory and ear training, large and small ensembles, various elective classes, and performance opportunities. Both classical and jazz curricula are offered. Concerto and chamber music competitions are held each year, categorized by instrument and age. Winners perform in a public concert. Performance groups include four orchestras, big band, opera workshop and musical theatre ensembles, three choruses, five jazz combos, and various chamber music groups and other small ensembles. Performances are scheduled throughout the year in the School’s Neidorff-Karpati Hall and recital halls.
M. SATURDAYS ARE MY FAVORITE DAY OF THE ET TO PLAY IN CHAMBER GROUPS, ORCHESTRAS, MUSIC THEORY AND EAR TRAINING CLASSES ON PRIVATE LESSONS. MY TEACHERS ARE AMAZING. IDES SO MANY MUSICAL OPPORTUNITIES THAT I VER GET ANYWHERE ELSE.”

The Precollege faculty comprises members from the American String Quartet Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Luke’ Allentown Symphony Orchestra, Greenwich Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic, Island Philharmonic, Lake George Opera Orchestra, Orpheus Chamber Orches and the internationally renowned college faculty of MSM.
