22–CALENDARPERFORMANCE23
James Gandre, President
As always, our talented students will have the opportunity to perform alongside MSM’s world-renowned faculty, special guests, and master class artists in our own venues and on a range of NYC stages that includes Merkin Concert Hall, Dizzy’s Club at Jazz at Lincoln Center, and The Riverside Theatre. And for those of you who are not able to join us for the live experience, we will once again be livestreaming many of our performances; links to those performances can be found at MSMNYC.EDU/LIVESTREAMS .
The Neidorffs’ generosity has always seemed to me an expression of a deeply held conviction that the performing arts can provide a measure of uplift, healing, and consolation during tumultuous times. We look forward to offering many such moments in the days, weeks, and months ahead.
For updated listings and repertoire, please visit MSMNYC.EDU/PERFORMANCES throughout the season.
It is a privilege and delight to welcome you to Manhattan School of Music’s 2022–23 performance season. This will be our first full calendar of in-person performances since the pandemic took hold in March 2020, and we have prepared a singular-sensation of a season, one that encompasses the full range of MSM’s classical, jazz, and musical theatre programs. This season’s offerings represent a remarkable variety of programming across hundreds of performances and eight thrilling months: from jazz tributes to Darcy James Argue and Jim McNeely and a very special performance of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue to fully staged musical theatre and opera productions, including Bock/Harnick’s delightful She Loves Me and a French opera double-bill of Massenet and Ibert; from performances by MSM Artists in Residence American String Quartet and Windscape to large-scale works from the MSM Symphony Orchestra and an Opera in Concert collaboration between the symphony and MSM Opera Theatre; from intimate student recitals to a full season of Saturday Precollege Division concerts. And on September 30, MSM pays tribute to alumnus, musician, and longtime piano faculty member Phillip Kawin (1956–2021) with a musical celebration of his remarkable life.
WELCOME
Finally, as you will see on the facing page, MSM is dedicating its 2022–23 performance season in loving memory of Michael F. Neidorff. The profound impact that Michael, along with his wife, MSM alumna and trustee Noémi K. Neidorff, have had on this institution will outlive all of us and extend well into the School’s second century and beyond.
With this season, Manhattan School of Music celebrates the extraordinary life and legacy of Michael F. Neidorff. Having indelibly enriched this institution and positively impacted the lives of so many musicians and music lovers across the globe, he will never be forgotten by the MSM Community.
Michael F. Neidorff
Michael supported the blossoming of music and the arts across our nation. He served on the boards of such important educational, civic, and cultural institutions as the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and the Kennedy Center, strengthening these organizations with his leadership and visionary philanthropy.

MANHATTAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC DEDICATES THE 2022–23 SEASON IN LOVING MEMORY OF MICHAEL F. NEIDORFF
(1942–2022)
Michael (HonDMA ’17), with his wife, MSM alumna and trustee Noémi K. Neidorff (BM ’70, MM ’72, HonDMA ’17), had an immeasurable impact on MSM, uplifting this institution through times of triumph and challenge. Among the Neidorffs’ many generous contributions was a gift—the largest in the School’s history—that made possible the sweeping renovations of Neidorff-Karpati Hall, our principal performance space, and the Hall’s Art Deco lounge, crowning achievements of the School’s Centennial celebrations.

Naming a seat in Neidorff-Karpati Hall provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your family, friends, a birthday or milestone event; to recognize a mentor or teacher who has inspired you; or to honor the memory of a loved one, while providing crucial support to maintain the newly renovated hall—described by the New York Times as “one of the Art Deco treats in the city.”
In recognition of your generous support, a plaque bearing your name, or the name of the person you choose to honor, will grace your seat in magnificent Neidorff-Karpati information, and to learn more about additional naming opportunities, please contact
We invite you to “take a seat” by making a fully tax-deductible contribution: $5,000 ORCHESTRA SEAT $3,000 BALCONY SEAT
