Charlie is 15 years old and was left alone after the suicide of his best friend. He lives with his parents, his sister and his brother. His language teacher is convinced that Charlie has a great talent. After making new friends at school he begins to understand what being a teenager is and he begins a journey into maturity that will take him through unexpected adventures. I knew about the book so I didn’t hesitate to watch the movie. It seemed to me a strange movie and I didn’t understand the end, but I could imagiwhat was going on. The book and the movie are special, the adventures and misfortunes of a 15 -year-old boy: his first love, holidays, drugs, school and above all the discovery of the true friendship. The characters make this story so special. Charlie’s particular vision of the world and his sensibility. I felt so connected with him! It was so hard not to love him! Clara Melgar, 3ºESO-B

IMMIGRATION The migration movement can go in two ways: -Emmigration: the people who goes to a different country -Immigration: the people who arrive to a different country Let’s focs on the immigratation movement in different continents: America: After the European arrival, the native inhabitants were mixed with them. Africa: After the Second World War many Africans moved to Europe. Europe: German was the main destination during the 20th century. Asia: Many people have left China because of the over population and hunger. Oceania: Many aboriginals have Europen origins. We also have this phenomenon in our country. Sometimes, many immigrants arrive at Tarifa from Africa. They usually get to shore on small ships crowded with littles boys and girls, men and even pregnant women.

They often leave their home countries because the economical situation is not good and they do not enjoy a proper salary. Most of their home countries are in war or suffer from famine. They haven’t got any money or work, but despite of that they have to pay to get on boat. They usually spend a few days crossing the Gibraltar strait and when they arrive they are hungry, thirsty and exhausted. Sometimes their ships get lost in the sea and their bodies are never found. For example, a few days ago a tragedy happened in Lampedusa. A boat with five hundred people sank on the sea and they all died. The immigrants jumped into the water because they saw fire and felt frightened. They couldn’t swim and the result was the death of all of them. The person responsible for that ship was arrested the following day.

These people risk their lives because they just want to have a better life, a new opportunity in a different country.

IS GOING ABROAD REALLY IMPORTANT?

GO FLORIDA!! The last second of October, our football team of La Barca de la Florida played a match against Xerez Deportivo F.C. . Although they lost 4-2 after a hard match, our team played very well thanks to the support of the Florida followers. The match was played in our sports centre. They weren’t lucky at all this time but we hope they win the next match!

Young people should go abroad at least once in their life for many reasons. Nowadays, you need to learn new languages like English. When you go abroad you also learn the culture and you can meet new people and have new experiences. However, it is hard to afford and sometimes you can have bad bad times like missing your family or feeling homesick. To sum up, I advise everybody to go abroad. Life is short and we need to have fun. Besides, we will need this experience in the future!! Alicia Cortijo, 2ºBach.-A

2ºESO SCHOOL TRIPS

ROCK IN RIO

The 2ºESO students made a survey in 2ºESO-A and 2ºESO-C about possible school trips. The majority answered they would like to go to Gibraltar. The second most voted destination was a trip to Isla Mágica in Seville. As the third option, the students would like to go to the Eurobasket World Cup in Seville. They all think that the visit to the Jerez newspaper and the courts in Jerez was the main school trip they had last year.

Last month one of the main rock and pop music festivals took place in Brazil. Since 1985, the festival has been held in different countries like Spain or Portugal. Bands like Queen or Iron Maiden have played in this festival. Almost 1.4 million people attended the show during ten days. Brazil celebrated it from 12th to 23th September. Muse, Alicia Keys or Beyoncé participated this year. You can check their official webpage to learn about the new guests, dates, tickets etc. If you love music, don’t miss the next Rock in Rio festival!

TOTAL DARKNESS 2026... 12 years and a couple of months between now and then...Think about it...Think about it and ask yourself: "what will we be doing in just over a decade?" Some of us, nowadays students, will be living our lives with our respective families, playing with our children, working... Other individuals will still be studying their university degrees. As for the rest...we won´t know so much about them: They might live in cities such as Seville, Granada, Madrid or Barcelona .What is more, perhaps they will be further away from our native land. In spite of all that, in 2026 we have a great excuse to come home and visit our family and old friends. The reason for our return is that on that day, there will be a solar eclipse. However, this is not a normal solar eclipse: this is a TOTAL eclipse, and while such phenomenon is happening, we will be completely surrounded by darkness. just before the sunset. What makes this eclipse even more special? The fact that this is only going to be experienced that way here, in this part of Andalusia, where the perfect sphere of the nature will be s een totally overshadowed. The exactly date is 12th August, 2026. and it would be a good idea to meet someone special to see it, and make this event last forever in our memories.
