Ms. Stacie Scrivner, Department Chair and Assistant Professor of Dental Hygiene, was honored as one of the 2017 class of Salute to Health Care Honorees by the Joplin Regional Business Journal. Dr. Brad Modlin, Assistant Professor of English, has been recognized for several recent publications. His book of poems titled Everyone at This Party Has Two Names was published in November 2016 and won The Cowles Poetry Book Prize. His 2017 collection of short stories, Surviving STACIE SCRIVNER in Drought, won The Cupboard Press’ annual contest. In September, the Peabody Award-winning public radio conversation and podcast, On Being (https://onbeing.org/), featured Modlin’s poem “What You Missed that Day You Were Absent from Fourth Grade” in its newsletter, describing it as ‘The Poem That Ends Krista Tippett’s [host] Email Signature.’ Ms. Sherry Whiteman, Respiratory Therapy Department faculty, Ms. Janice Dunaway, Respiratory Therapy Department faculty, Mr. Caleb Lewis, Simulation Center Coordinator, Ms. Glenda Pippin, Department Chair of Respiratory Therapy, all part of the School of Health Sciences, co-authored a book with Scot Jones in 2016 titled Respiratory Simulation: 20 Adult Simulations (ISBN: 987-0932887-50-4). Since then that book has been adopted by 100 respiratory programs in the nation, 25% of the total number of programs. The same team recently published Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Simulations (ISBN: 978-093288727-6). Both books are designed to assist respiratory instructors in the facilitation of simulation, and also provide the students with supplemental worksheets on each topic.
