Assistant Clubs Administrators Hello everyone!

My name is Rabeena Obaidullah (pronounced “Obey the Law” - fun fact) and I am one of the two Assistant Clubs Administrators for the 20152016 school year! I am in my second year of Honours Life Sciences and absolutely love being a part of the McMaster community! Having said that, I would just like to thank our predecessor, Sudeshna Dhar, for doing an absolutely incredible job at fostering a welcoming sense of community within the MSU Clubs Department! I look forward to working with you all this year and I am super excited to meet you, so please drop by to say #heywhatsuphello! Let’s have an awesome year together! Sending smiles, -Rabeena Obaidullah :)

ClubsFest

Clubs Training

The Clubs Department held its annual festival of clubs – ClubsFest – on September 9th this year. The event was a huge success as 300 clubs, university departments and community organizations congregated on campus and spoke to thousands of students about the different services, programming and ways to get involved. You can catch a video recap of ClubsFest by visiting msumcmaster.ca/clubsfest.

Two club executives from each club attended Clubs training sessions the week of September 14th. These training sessions served to educate and inform club executives on resources and services available on campus, in order to help them run their clubs better and improve their day-today activities and programming. A social was also hosted at TwelvEighty Bar & Grill for all executives that attended training.

Clubs of all kinds attracted many interested students during ClubsFest 2015.

Club Spotlight: COPE COPE is a MSU club dedicated to stomping out mental health stigma by raising awareness, as well as providing education and referrals. It was founded in September 2008 by a group of McMaster students looking to make a difference. What started from humble beginnings is a now one of the most active clubs at McMaster with plenty of opportunities for members to get involved in the community and on campus! Last year, they were awarded our prestigious Club of the Year award for their outstanding impact on campus.

The goals of their club are: 1) to organize awareness events 2) to support mental health related organizations through fundraising initiatives 3) to educate and support students at McMaster and members of the Hamilton community 4) to engage McMaster students and provide opportunities to get involved with mental health issues in their community. On Sunday, October 4th, COPE will be hosting their annual Move for Mental Health which is an awareness event hosted in partnership with Mood Disorders Society of Canada’s (MDSC) Defeat Depression campaign. Registrants participate by running, walking, and even wheeling around campus to raise awareness about Major Depressive Disorder. If you’re looking to get involved or just learn more about their upcoming events, check them out online at copex. weebly.com or follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/COPEMcMaster.
