A Letter from the Macademics Team Dear Students, On behalf of the MSU Macademics team, we’d like to introduce you to our one-step hub for academic and wellness resources on campus. Initially launched in October 2017, our team has since updated the hub with changes to resources available on campus and added a diverse array of new resources accessible to students. As such, we are excited to share with you the new and improved Resource Hub - no stressful site surfing necessary! Created by students for students. Take a look at the Table of Contents to guide your search, and access the links to find the specific support you need. Course Wiki

The McMaster Used Textbook Sales Facebook page is a community of nearly 30,000 McMaster students selling and buying textbooks at affordable prices.

The Course Wiki provides up-to-date feedback and inside information on all undergraduate courses. This service is run by students, for students and includes details about professors, testing styles, and tips on how to succeed academically.

Student Success Centre The Student Success Centre is a free service that supports students and alumni with their academic work, personal growth, and professional development. Such resources include academic coaching, First Generation Student programming, mentorship, and career counseling. The SCC is located in Gilmore Hall room 110. Engineering Academic Advisor

Textbook Library

Academic advisors are available by appointment, or on a drop-in basis in JHE-H301 (Hatch Building) from Monday to Friday from 1:30-4:00 pm.

The MES Textbook library is a public library from which engineering students can freely borrow textbooks.

Tutoring

Engineering Co-op & Career Services

The McMaster Engineering Society (MES) offers a peer tutoring service network that can provide students with course support. Interested students can choose from the list of MES tutors who are pre-screened for qualifications. Rates are affordable and the MES will offer partial compensation if the tutor is affiliated with the MES. macengsociety.ca/tutoring

Exchange And Experiential Learning

Discovery Program

ArtSci students who are interested in international study can learn about participating in the MacAbroad Exchange Program. This opportunity allows students in their third year to study at a host institution overseas.

MSS Mentorship Program

Connecting With Programs & Socities

The MSS Mentorship Program offers a chance for students in their first and second year to have an upper year student act as an overall support system in the faculty. Mentors offer academic advice, take students to events and support their mentee’s needs.

Connecting with the diverse number of programs and departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences. Students can also connect with the McMaster Social Science Society (MSSS) whose primary goal is to enhance the experience of undergraduate Social Science students at McMaster University. They run social and academic events, as well as recreational and cultural activities.

DeGroote Commerce Society

Get paired up to an upper-year mentor who can help you navigate your first few years through McMaster’s Commerce Program.

The DeGroote Commerce Society is an organization of student leaders that aims to create and develop opportunities for student growth and faculty collaboration such as the Degroote Entrepreneur Engineering and Commerce Case Competition. The Society is also always on the lookout for new Commerce students to join their clubs and committees!

Science SCCE

Tutoring

The SCCE provides guidance and information on career paths, experiential learning, and cooperative education (CO-OP). Their services include resume critiques, information about potential employers, and job opportunities through OSCARplus. Drop-in hours are in BSB 127 on Monday to Wednesday from 1:00-3:00pm, Thursday 9:30-11:30am, or Friday 10:00am-12:00pm.

The Tutoring Service is an affordable learning resource built by students, for students. Run through the McMaster Science Society, the service is structured to be 1) accessible, through an online database and feedback systems. 2) affordable, through subsidization with MSS Tutor Tokens, and 3) specialized, featuring a strong team of trained tutors with a competitive application process offering services in a variety of languages.

Kinesiology Course Reviews

MacKin Mentor Program

The McMaster Kinesiology Society provides student-written course reviews, covering 3rd and 4th year Kinesiology courses.

The goal of this year-long program is to introduce first year students (Baby Blues) to Mac Kin Welcome Week Representatives (Big Blues) who can help answer any questions, give advice, and overall be a new friend!

Nursing Program Handbook

Academic Advising

The BScN Program Handbook contains essential information pertaining to nursing students at the McMaster, Mohawk, and Conestoga sites, including program policies, procedures, and regulations for nursing students.

Academic advisors are available by email, phone, or in person to guide Nursing students on their academic path all the way to graduation. They help with degree requirements, navigating absences (short-term and long-term), exploring options, and setting goals. They are available to answer your questions by email, phone, or in person.

McMaster University Nursing Students Society (MUNSS) MUNNS represent the BScN students from all sites (McMaster, Mohawk, Conestoga) and all streats (Basic, Accelerated, RPN-BScN). Accessibility Maccess Maccess aims to build and maintain a campus that celebrates, advocates, and ensures inclusiveness in the area of disability. The service provides programming and events in effort to establish a sense of community for those that self-identify as having disabilities or disabled. Wellness Women Gender Equity Network (WGEN)

Student Wellness Centre (SWC)

WGEN is an MSU service that provides support for women, Trans and gender non-conforming folks, and all survivors of sexual violence. WGEN has a space in MUSC 204 with trained peer support volunteers available Monday to Friday for drop-in, group, and individual support. WGEN also offers support groups, community building events, educational campaigns, and online and in-person resources such as menstrual products, bras, binders and breast forms.
