THE McMASTER STUDENTS UNION | FEB 8, 2015 | KEY POINTS & UPDATES FROM SRA MEETINGS

PRESIDENTIAL PROGRESS Year-End Festival Receives Approval The SRA has approved the allocation of $40,000 to support a year-end festival. Expect fireworks, live music, carnival rides, and a ton of smiling faces. Students will be able to attend the event at no-cost. The event itself will cost over $100,000, with the majority of funds coming from the MSU, the Student Success Center and the McMaster Alumni Association.

Frost Week Follow Up By all counts, Frost Week was a success! Almost every event reached maximum capacity, and there was an awesome air of positivity across campus. Look forward to more excitement and more programming in the years to come - hopefully including a greater rep presence.

Peer Tutoring Network The Peer Tutoring Network is slowly starting to pick up steam. President Teddy Saull revealed that we can expect to see the service fully operational by September 2015. In its initial year, students will be charged $15 for each hour of tutoring, and tutors will receive the same amount as compensation.

MUSC Upgrades Sick of seeing students doing their homework on the floor in MUSC? We are too. That’s why we’re so excited for a number of space improvements that will create more study areas in the building. Expect long tables and chairs throughout the hallways, as well as a revamped area in front of CIBC hall.

KEY UPDATES Pilot Service Approval The MSU’s two pilot services, Spark and the Women and Gender Equity Network (WGEN), require SRA approval in order to continue next year. Spark’s approval will be voted on during the meeting February 22nd, and WGEN is likely to be voted on during March 8th. If you care deeply about either service, swing by these meetings to share your opinion with the assembly.

A Win for Faculty Societies Following a year of lobbying, the Board of Directors have almost secured Faculty Societies a greater portion of the Welcome Week Levy. A proposed 5% increase in funding for these groups is set to be approved on February 25th. The hope is that the money will support more faculty-specific programming in the coming year.

Campus Accessibility Facilities Services has agreed to upgrade and replace all of the lifts on campus, in order to make these tools far more valuable to individuals with visible or invisible disabilities. Further, the University Affairs committee has drafted a report outlining issues and suggestions relating to our campus’ accessbility. This report will play a key role in future advocacy efforts.
