MNSU hosts first career fair for students in Computer Information Science

OLAYINKA GBOLAHAN STAFF WRITER Minnesota State University, Mankato’s Career Development Center hosted the 2019 Career and Internship fair for careers in Computer Information Science in partnership with Computer Infor-mation Science Department Tuesday. The day kicked-off with an information session with Dr. Sarah Kruse, an associate professor and the internship coordinator of the department. Dr. Kruse talked about what student should expect and how they should conduct themselves at the fair. There was also an organized mock interview and resume review session to help prepare the stu-dents for the career fair. Off-Campus senator leads Constitution Day conversation on 2020 Census VANDY MANYEH STAFF WRITER

Data during the 2020 census will be collected online for the first time in U.S. history. Andrew Weinzierl, the student government’s off-campus senator, led a constitutional conversation on the new U.S. Bureau of Census data collection method, and how important it is to participate in the 2020 U.S. Census - or, the official count of people living in the United States. Many students are unaware of the different resources on campus such as the campus cupboard and campus kitchen located at the Crossroads Church. Every Tuesday from noon to 3 p.m. the cupboard is open for students to come and get free grocery items. The church also serves one buck lunches in the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Provided by the campus kitchen, a daily bread cart and fridge of an assortment of lunches are offered to students at any time. Karen Anderson, Assistant Director of the Community Engagement Office and manager of the campus kitchen, says, “Any day you need food you can get access to it. All you do is you come through the door of the church, you can pick up bread at the bread cart, walk through the campus kitchen, open the fridge and take a baked potato, a sandwich or a cup of soup and walk straight out. You don’t need to talk to anybody, no questions asked. There’s no need to show an ID.” This is a great resource for students who may be facing food insecurity, but very few know about it. According to a study done in the spring semester of 2018 in the “Sociology in Action” class, only two people surveyed said they know and have used the campus cupboard.
