Hey Mystics! Welcome to February! With Reading Week it’ll be a short month but we have lots of great stuff planned for you in these 3 weeks! First off, the #LoveIsLove campaign will be running from February 3 until the 14th! We’ll be having photobooths set up all during this campaign so don’t worry if you haven’t had a chance to participate yet! If you want to check out the campaign, go to www.loveislove.ca, visit us on facebook at fb.com/teamloveislove, or send us a tweet at @TeamLoveIsLove! Join us, and help to spread the love! Make sure to check out Residence Society’s Charity Ball: A Night Under the Lights, this Saturday, February 8th, at 9pm. Tickets are $10 if bought in advanced, or $15 at the door, so make sure to buy your ticket soon! All proceeds from Charity Ball will go towards the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) Shine A Light campaign. This campaign aims to support refugee girls’ education, by providing the tools they need to learn, to strive, and to succeed. Every $10 donated will enable one more girl to access solar-powered light. Very great event and the society has put lots of work into it so make sure to come on out!

Support Sisters Initiative Bras are one of the least donated items of clothing, yet one of the most necessary. For some individuals in privileged countries, owning a bra is considered normal, but in other regions of the world, obtaining a bra is a luxury and affording one is difficult. That’s why when the students enrolled in SOAN/WOMS 3371 were contacted by Carolyn Fitzgibbons and learned about her initiative, they decided that they would help her reach her goal of collecting 1,000 gently used bras to send to women in South East Asia. The donation location to drop off gently used bras will be in Dr. Alan Brown’s office, Evaristus 440. Any questions may be forwarded by telephone at 457-6239 or by email at Shaunda.Jesso@msvu.ca. Donations will be accepted until March 3, 2014.

CAMPUS UPDATES Art Gallery presents WAR ART NOW Lecture by Dick Averns, Artist & Writer Monday, 10 February 2014, 2 pm Visiting from Calgary, Dick Averns will recount his experience as an official Canadian war artist, including the selection process, preparation for deployment, and fieldwork in the Middle East. Engaging with the politics of national identity, the content of his artwork deals with the commodification of space: how territories are variously bought, sold, exchanged, bartered or fought over. Averns' presentation will also provide insight to his art-making process in relation to other war art programs, framing a range of approaches to what constitutes war art now. There will be an opportunity to discuss the varying themes portrayed via his use of lens-based media, sculpture and non-fiction writing.
The one hour lecture will take place at MSVU Gallery amidst Averns’ provocative work. Following the lecture, join us for a guided tour of the exhibition Terms of Engagement: Averns, feldman-kiss, Stimson. For more information about the exhibition, including interviews with the artists and an essay by Averns, visit www.termsofengagement.ca.
