WHEN GEORGIA STATE HAS THE BALL The Panthers rely on the passing of quarterback Nick Arbuckle, who has completed 183 of 308 of his passes for 2,472 yards and 16 touchdowns. Georgia State leads the Sun Belt Conference in passing with 316.2 yards per game, but is 10th out of 11 teams in running the ball with 105.9 yards per game. Georgia State receiver Donovan Hardin leads the Panthers with 45 catches for 707 yards and seven touchdowns, which is sixth in the Sun Belt. He was named to the Biletnikoff Award watch list earlier this week. Joel Ruiz also has 34 receptions for 445 yards and three touchdowns.

WHEN APP STATE HAS THE BALL The Mountaineers rediscovered their running game in their 53-14 victory over Troy on Oct. 18. The Mountaineers ran roughshod over Troy’s defense to the tune of rushing for 441 yards. Appalachian State had four players rush for at least 80 yards, including running back Marcus Cox, who finished with 123 yards on 16 carries. Backup runner Terrance Upshaw ran for 82 on just 11 carries, and third-string running back Ricky Fergerson gained 107 yards on just 10 carries. Quarterback Taylor Lam threw for just 110 yards on 9-of-16 passing mostly because he didn’t have to pass much. Lamb also gained 98 yards on eight carries rushing the ball. Georgia State could be vunerable against the run. The Panthers allow 287.4 yards per game, and 499.2 yards per game overall.

Appalachian State hosts Georgia State in a Sun Belt matchup at 3:30 p.m. today at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
Georgia Southern ran for 613 yards on the Panthers’ defense in a 69-31 victory over the Panthers at the Georgia Dome on Oct. 25. Linebacker Joseph Peterson, a junior, leads Georgia State defensively with 87 total tackles, four that are for a loss. He also has one sack for 15 yards. App State has also found balance in its offense by averaging 227.9 yards per game rushing and 227.1 passing.
