When Appalachian State has the ball: The Mountaineers return 10 of 11 starters from a team that won its final six games. Quarterback Taylor Lamb, a redshirt sophomore, has plenty of weapons as his disposal, including running back Marcus Cox, who gained 1,415 yards and scored 19 touchdowns

in 2014. Simms McElfresh caught 42 passes for 484 yards and five touchdowns in 2014 to lead the team. Appalachian State averaged 35.7 points and 461.5 yards per game in 2014. Howard runs a 4-3 defensive set, and gave up 418.5 yards per game.
