Ridge for a 26 -mile scenic round train trip from Blue Ridge to McCaysville as it passes through historic Murphy Junction along the beautiful Toccoa River.

he historical Main Street in Blue Ridge delights many people that love North Georgia featuring shops and eateries where visitors can sit a spell on the rockers and benches along the way. Named one of the Top 10 Towns to visit by Atlanta Magazine, this gem is worth a trip to see.

Other Historical sites in downtown Blue Ridge can still be seen today including the Baugh House, now owned by the Fannin County Heritage Foundation built by James Baugh in 1893 and The Art Center, built in 1937 now the home of the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association’s Arts Center.

Spend the day exploring the many art galleries, antiques, and specialty shops that line the town. Eat at one of the many deli’s in town or out on the river at Toccoa Riverside Restaurant. See unique artwork at Pezrok or Turning Leaf Gallery for home décor or that specialized gift.

Wether your in downtown or exploring the other areas of Blue Ridge, activities include Putt Putt Golf at 2nd Story Entertainment, drive a tank and crush cars at Tank Town, or fish in stocked ponds and gem mine at The Lily Pad Village. Just outside of the area, visitors can raft the waters of the Ocoee River or fly high on the Zipline.

Brasstown Bald

The Top of Georgia!

B

rasstown Bald is 4,784 feet above sea level and is the highest point in North Georgia. Those who have visited have marveled at the unsurpassed views!

During the day there are several trails that lead up to Brasstown Bald, including Wagon Train Trail, Jack’s Knob Trail, where there is an access path to the Appalachian Trail. Arkaquah Trail follows high ridges to the Track Rock Archaeological area and Brasstown Bald Trail climbs 500 ft. in a half mile.

Visitors can travel to Brasstown by car from State Rd. Hwy. 180 that can be accessed either coming from Helen or Hiawassee on 17/75 or

by Blairsville on Hwy. 129.

Once to the parking facility there is a steep, paved trail to the Visitor Information Center at the summit. Although difficult, this is an excellent hike for most people. Frequent stopping places along the path make it achievable for even the most out-of-shape hikers. A shuttle in the visitor parking provides access to the summit in addition to a picnic area for the public.

The Visitors Center provides an unencumbered 360 view of the surrounding mountains and four states of North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina. A museum and exhibit entitled “Man and the Mountain" shows rural mountain life, forestry in North Georgia and the diversifed wildlife in the area.
