This MA-dissertation consists of two main parts. The first part is an introduction to Catholic social
teaching. The second part analyses central aspects of Catholic social economics. In both parts the
focus is on the nature, principles and premises of Catholic social teaching and economics, but
these are seen in relationship to conventional economics. The methodology is partly analytical
(focussing on central concepts, premises and principles), partly historical (focussing on the social
and political context and the development of the conceipts), partly comparative (focussing on
differences and common ground between Catholic social economics and conventional economics)
