The freedom to build a garage of substantial size clinched the sale of this 3+acre tract on E. Rivercrest when the owner, a car collector, was looking for land inside the city on which to build a home for himself and his cars. He hired Hollenbeck Architects to design a magnificent, Tuscan-inspired, 11,000+sf home, and built a professional-grade, state-of-the-art garage to accommodate up to 50 cars. The impressive residence, built by Gunn Construction & Building with consultation by Gay & Loudermilk Engineering, offers an open, sweeping floorplan of integrated formal and informal rooms designed for grand entertainments and sophisticated daily living. Appointments include Venetian plaster walls throughout the three floors; faux gilt moldings; wide cased openings and beamed ceilings; an elevator; central vacuum; stunning helix staircase; superb travertine and hardwood floors; mosaic travertine thresholds; and three splendid fireplaces. Floor-toceiling windows of butted glass and French doors span the rear and provide scenic views of the covered and open patios, pool, and cabana/guest house.
The wide, light-filled, triple-height foyer travels past the formal dining room and inviting library to the double-height living room, enhanced by a backdrop of patios and pool, and by interior balconies on the second floor. Behind the kitchen, the service area includes the elevator; a half-bath; abundant cabinet, bench, and locker storage; laundry room with storage and sink; and the return staircase.
The first-floor, spacious primary suite, accessed from a private hall near the bar, overlooks the patios and pool through French doors. The lavishly appointed primary bath features a honed travertine floor; floating sink and vanity cabinets with granite decks; a soaking tub beneath a window; a body-jet shower; and water closet. The custom-fitted walk-in closet includes transom windows and a packing island. Next to the primary suite, a flexible-purpose room, in use as an office, has solid entry doors, built-in bookcases, and cabinets with an under-counter refrigerator niche.
On the second floor, the main staircase landing extends to French doors that open to a wide front balcony and rearward to the interior balcony overlooking the living room and bar. A trio of spacious, en suite bedrooms offer carpeted floors; tall ceilings; custom-fitted walk-in or deep step-in closets; and luxurious, granite-clad baths with either glassenclosed tub/showers or separate showers.
An enormous, light-filled game room opens to the interior balcony and return staircase landing. The game room has a beamed ceiling and includes a spacious, walk-in, fully equipped bar/kitchenette with marble countertops; icemaker; dishwasher; beverage cooler; and microwave. Close to the game room are a half-bath; a sunroom/artist studio/office with built-in desk and bookcases; a flexible-purpose room in use as a gym; and an additional laundry room.
