his significant, park-like tract of nearly five acres offers the possibility of a one-of-akind estate compound in Tanglewood. The

crescent-shaped property’s three contiguous lots are the only addresses on Spring Park Drive, a non-connecting cul-de-sac accessed by a single entrance/exit from Rocky River Drive, allowing a rare degree of seclusion and exclusivity. The history of this property is as intriguing as its prospects. The tract includes the last undeveloped lot owned by Tanglewood Corporation and never sold; the historic Farrington house; and a second vintage structure, the Freels house. Located at the center of the tract, the 45,302-sf lot (per HCAD) adjoins both the Farrington House and the Freels house. Never sold or developed by Tanglewood Corporation, the lot has served as a de facto park and playground for generations of children. 5353 Spring Park Drive Undeveloped Lot 45,302-sf (per HCAD)

he Georgian Revival-style Farrington house, a neighborhood landmark and one of the first homes in the city to have central air conditioning, was built by Tanglewood developer William G.

Farrington for his family in 1948-49. For nearly 70 years, three generations of Farringtons have beautifully maintained, expertly preserved, and stunningly updated this classic, two-story home and cultivated its oldgrowth azalea gardens and heirloom trees. The house offers large, light-filled, formal and informal rooms with pegged oak floors, classicallyinspired fireplaces, and floor-to-ceiling double-hung windows; an inviting library, paneled in coffee-stained cypress, with book/display cabinets and a built-in desk; and a magnificent sunroom, floored in Pennsylvania blue stone, that overlooks the rear azalea gardens, lawn, and swimming pool. An addition of recent years, the modern kitchen shares the sunroom’s views and features an open, airy floorplan that transitions into the adjoining den. Appointments include a wrap-around breakfast bar, central island, travertine floor, granite countertops, and stainless-steel Viking appliances. The den has a fireplace and built-in media/storage cabinet. The home also includes an elevator; fully-equipped bar; master bedroom with a fireplace, sitting area, and extensive bath, dressing area and closets; large basement/gameroom; and a separate maid’s quarters. 5345 Spring Park Drive The Farrington House 105,051-sf (per HCAD)

his two-story home was customdesigned for Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Freels by the firm of Irvine and Hoyt, Architects

in 1955. According to a previous owner, the exterior and interior brick was reclaimed from a demolished bank in Ranger, Texas. The interior offers quarter-sawn mahogany parquet floors, large light-filled formal rooms, and a spacious den that overlooks the pool and grounds. The kitchen has a brick floor and adjoins a separate breakfast room surrounded by windows. The den has a brick fireplace, a bar, and a large book/display cabinet. The guest suite on the first floor and the master suite on the second floor both have sitting areas and updated, marble-clad bathrooms and walk-in closets. Two additional bedrooms share a Hollywood bathroom, and a fifth bedroom is en suite. Grounds include multiple brick patios, a pool, and gardens with wrought-iron, jasminecovered archways and grass paths. 360 Spring Park Drive The Freels House 59,677-sf (per HCAD)
