WHAT The II INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF DANZA DUENDE is a meeting of artists from the International School of the Danza Duende network, with all their friends, students, guests and supporters of the project. The celebration is in the beautiful Portuguese town of SERPA where they will share from their travels within and around the world. The Festival will provide an opportunity for the community of Serpa and all the people of our planet to share and exchange experiences and adventures, beyond the boundaries of the known and the controlled, as characterises the vision of DANZA DUENDE. We aim to create for ourselves a space in where the nomadic experience of art and the human heart can meet, in a natural opening for learning and discovery. Our true mission and challenge is to touch the very essence of our inner journey, that which makes the human being not only a discoverer, but one who fulfils dreams...
THE ORGANISERS... The Portuguese branch of the International School of Danza Duende: Dancing your Life and the BAAL 17 Theatre Company, in the town of Serpa, the “Strong Land�, as is commonly know, within the sphere of the 14th Noites na Nora Festival.

OBJECTIVES To boost the town of Serpa and to encourage participants to enjoy this land, through continuous and spontaneous manifestations of the arts of life and international culture throughout the whole town for the 5 days of the Duende Festival. To attract people from different countries to the area, thereby promoting the development of rural areas and providing an opportunity for the prosperous meeting between the Alentejo traditions and the diversity of world cultures. The common thread arises from the spontaneous richness in moments of communication and learning among all the people, in every sense and for every party involved!
THEME LA CARAVANE AMOUREUSE, ‘The Loving Caravan’ or ‘The Caravan in Love’, a title inspired by the presence of our special guest, Marc Vella, the 'nomadic pianist’ who for 25 years has toured with his piano over 200,000 kilometres of roads and by-ways in more than 40 countries, to celebrate the quality of kindness of human beings, thanks to the universal magic of music.

WHY So that all the people of the International Danza Duende School may meet with the community of Serpa and the general public, to share their vision of a general education based on the integration of art into all activities and various manifestations of human society.
HOW As with the First International Festival of Danza Duende celebrated in 2010 which was a great success, by featuring and offering varied shows, workshops, conferences and exhibitions. Wild and spontaneous performances and interventions will also take place on the streets and in the theatres of this magical town, as well as in many other wonderful places offered by the municipality of Serpa. Always cultivating a fresh, spontaneous and free attitude!

ACTIVITIES The shows and performances of the II International Festival of Danza Duende will be featured at the “Nora Space” (the old waterwheel) and at the Municipal Auditorium of Serpa from the 23rd to the 28th July. Many other shows and events will be held at the Musibéria in the municipal garden and in the central square as in many other areas of the city. Workshops for adults and children will be held in the mornings and afternoons in genres such as dance, painting, theatre, singing, cooking and permaculture. A total of more than 40 shows and workshops, for more than 100 participants coming from the four corners of the world: Portugal, Spain, Belgium, France, Italy, Ireland, England, Brazil, India, China, Haiti...

DANZA DUENDE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Danza Duende is a training covering all aspects of our lives, which helps us to value and elevate our existence by dancing. It shows us how to discover the art of being as we are and to open ourselves to the potential of our free and loving nature. It has been created by Yumma Mudra with the purpose of transforming our lives into an art practice. It comprises different activities which aim is to cultivate basic goodness in our daily lives.
In our international trainings several teachers gather their different artistic skills to offer strong synergetic work that includes exercises on perception, intelligence and developing braveness, as well as on nourishing a spirit of joy and generosity. It is a long-term training that allows us to visit the very sources of form in our own mind and to discover our intrinsic potential so that we can work in all aspects of life as if we dance our lives. The main goal of the Duende method is to develop our communication skills and to be flexible and generous when working with others. It is a training that promotes ethics and joy within the transmission of art practice.

BAAL 17 Baal 17 is a professional theatre group that has a permanent team of eight members including actors, directors, technicians, trainers and producers. They are joined by a wide network of partners and a team of collaborators that enrich the activities undertaken by the Company. Baal 17’s structural objective is the promoting of people’s interest in culture in general and in particular, theatre. It achieves this by linking the Company to schools, the community and various organisations as well as national and international institutions.
The relationships and the know-how that have been created and developed with Portuguese and other European institutions and individual creators allow Baal 17 to develop a wide range of Theatre Programs in Creative Theatre, Education and Community projects: the guidelines of Baal 17. All this work has been carried out in order to lead to the creation of the Nora Artistic Centre (a multidisciplinary arts centre), a project that aims at creating the conditions to produce, host and co-produce shows and provide training in various artistic fields. Within this scope, Baal 17 will be hosting the II International Festival of Danza Duende in July 2013 within the programming of the 14th Noites na Nora Festival.
