THEME
annual NATIONAL DAIRY SECTOR AWARDS 2012
“Promoting good governance, excellent cooperative management & leadership practices within the Dairy cooperative sector Uganda”
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FROM DAIRY COOPERATIVES Heifer International Uganda through the East African Dairy Development Project (EADD) have been supporting the development of the dairy sector with focus on supporting formation of Dairy cooperatives and ensuring that the farmers can undertake dairy farming as a business. Heifer International through the EADD Project recognizes the role that Dairy Cooperatives play in nurturing small holder Dairy farmers. Through such collaborations small holder dairy farmers, can achieve competitive advantage and also gain access to the necessary resources for growth and success. As a growing economy there’s need to encourage formation of stronger dairy cooperatives with good governance and long term relationships in the Dairy sector that rely on the incentives of repeated interactions in order to overcome institutional failure and make significant contributions to productivity, exports and growth It’s against this background that Heifer International through EADDand Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) will this year 2012 introduce the Annual National Dairy Sector Awards to recognize the Dairy Cooperatives in Uganda. The award event will also be used to recognize the leading promoters of the Dairy sector both in the government, private sector and civil society organizations. This is to therefore call for nominations from all registered dairy cooperatives in Uganda to participate in these awards under the following categories
DAIRY COOPERATIVE OF THE YEAR - NATIONAL LEVEL This award recognizes a dairy cooperative with a well established secretariat, good governance structures, audited accounts and has been in existence for more than 5 years with recognizable achievement in membership growth, milk bulking and has shown potential in developing other agricultural products supplementing the dairy income for the Cooperative and its members and has been able to establish reputable business linkages for its members. This category is open for all dairy cooperatives in Uganda.
EADD EXCELLENCE AWARD - BEST COOPERATIVE This award is only eligible to those dairy cooperatives that are beneficiaries of the EADD Project. And has out-competed the winners in each of the four EADD Clusters (Masaka, Masindi, Kiboga and Mukono). Priority will be given to a well established cooperative with a secretariat, good governance structures, audited accounts and has been in existence for more than 3 years with recognizable achievement in membership growth, milk bulking and shown potential in developing other agricultural products supplementing the dairy income for the Cooperative and its members.
