PRESS RELEASE BY THE SECRETARY-­‐GENERAL OF THE KUALA LUMPUR FOUNDATION TO CRIMINALISE WAR (KLFCW) ON THE PASSING OF TAN SRI DATO HAJI LAMIN HAJI MOHD YUNUS THURSDAY, 9TH JULY 2015

It is with deep sorrow that we noted the passing of our good friend and colleague, Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Lamin bin Haji Mohd Yunus, at 2.30 this morning (Thursday, July 9, 2013) at his home in Shah Alam, Selangor. He would be 80 years old in September this year. He was buried at the section 21 Shah Alam Muslim cemetery in Selangor. Amongst the many present during his funeral were the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia and Founder/Chairman of the KLFCW, His Excellency Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad and the Chief Justice of Malaysia, Yang Amat Arif Tun Arifin Zakaria. Tan Sri Lamin had a distinguished career in the Malaysian judiciary, culminating in his appointment as the President of the Court of Appeal Malaysia. He began his career in the Legal and Judicial Service in 1967, where he first served as Deputy Public Prosecutor in the Attorney-­‐General’s Chambers, later as Federal Counsel in the Ministry of Defence, State Legal Adviser in Pahang, Judge Advocate General in the Ministry of Defence, Solicitor-­‐General in the Attoreny-­‐General’s Chambers, before he was finally elevated to the Bench in 1988. Six years later, in 1994, he was appointed Judge of the Federal Court, and soon thereafter when the Court of Appeal was established, he was appointed as its first President. He retired from the Judiciary on 12th March 2001. In 2005, Tan Sri Lamin was appointed an ad litem judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Republic of Yugoslavia (ICTY) for two terms. The ICTY, located in The Hague, was established to prosecute those responsible for human rights violations in the former Yugoslavia. Tan Sri Lamin joined KLFCW in 2012 when he was appointed as its Deputy Chairman of KLFCW’s Board of Trustees, taking over the position vacated by Dato’ Kadir Sulaiman. He stayed on as a member of the Board of Trustees until he resigned on 29th January 2015 due to his failing health and his seat was taken

over by Prof. Salleh Buang. He was the President of the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal (KLWCT) for 3 years, from 2012 to 2015. On November 26, 2013, after presiding a marathon trial of 6 days at the KLWCT, he delivered a 2-­‐hour guilty verdict of the crime of genocide against the State of Israel and General Amos Yaron. On behalf of everyone in KLFCW (the Board of Trustees, the Commissioners and the Legal Team), KLWCT (the Judges and the Registrar) and the Criminalise War Clubs in secondary schools throughout the country, we offer our condolences to the family members of our late colleague and pray that Allah SWT shower His blessings on his soul and place him in the Company of the Faithful. The Criminalise War Club (CWC) is an organ of the Kuala Lumpur Foundation to Criminalise War (KLFCW) established with the approval of the Minister of Education Malaysia on 19th october 2012. All donations to the CWC should be made through the KLFCW which is a tax-exempt foundation under s.44 of the Income Tax Act 1967. Ref.
