Ijust wrote a emotional email to my daughter’s teacher, letting them know we’re not coming back.

As Will Smith says, “raising kids is like being a gardener. You provide what the seed needs so that it can grow. It will grow into whatever it was meant to grow into. All you can do is provide the best environment for it to grow in. Not all soil is the same., and not all seeds thrive in a garden. *1
I really value education. It means a lot to me. I was so proud the day we enrolled in the school we did. It felt so right. I was certain we were choosing the best soil money could buy, for our little seeds to grow in. But our girlseed is some kind of wildflower. She feels suffocated in a pot. She is not interested in traditional gardening methods. School wasn’t what I’d hoped it would be for her. She was growing, but she wasn’t full of life. She didn’t skip into the place like I saw the kids do. I want her to skip. She skips at home. So we’re homeschooling. We’re handcrafting her education. The world will be her classroom. A classroom that doesn’t require her to sit still.
It’s hard for a kid to learn when so much of their mental capacity is being taken up by the task of keeping still. We’re lucky enough to have and have worked to create, a life that allows us to do this our way. Her own teaching team. Kid-led learning. Family-crafted curriculum. We’re working with an education consultant. She’s wonderful. She has a teaching background, a psychology qualification, experience with wildflower kids, a passion for experiential learning, and most importantly, an enormous heart. I love what she’s planning for our daughter. And our daughter does too. I’m nervous; this is not the norm. Making this decision is us stepping outside of the system. However, as a client (who homeschools) said to me recently “this is a no-brainer for you. It’s in alignment with everything you stand for.”
No one should have to go to a place they don’t enjoy, every day., that’s soul-destroying and unfair. Everyone should get to do what they love, I believe it’s the key to creating successful outcomes. This is me walking my talk, and making brave decisions as a mama. We don’t do many things the traditional way in our lives, we tend to pave our own path and I think this is going to be quite the adventure.
