Teddy Bear Party Ingredients: • One Staffords Crème Caramel • 500ml milk • 100ml boiling water • Bunting • Jelly teddy bears • Wafer baskets. Method: Heat the milk to simmering point, and whisk in the larger sachet. Heat the mixture again, taking care not to boil. Dissolve the caramel sachet in the boiling water and divide the mixture between four ramekins. Place a spoon into the ramekin just above the caramel and carefully pour the milk mixture over the caramel mixture, taking care to not allow them to mix. Place into the refrigerator and allow it to set (four to six hours). To serve, place the ramekin into hot water for a couple seconds and place the jelly into a wafer basket. Serve with bunting and jelly teddies.

What Parents Should Know about Their Child’s Vision Starting Grade 1 is such a milestone for both children and their parents. With the excitement of starting ‘big school’, comes an array of things to organise before the big day. As much of your child’s learning happens visually, this is also a recommended time for a full binocular visual assessment for your not-so-little one. Ahead of Grade 1 it is important to establish that your child sees clearly and easily with each eye individually and both together, maintains focus well for extended periods and shifts focus easily (as when looking from the board to their work and back again). Many parents wonder how well their little ones (who can’t read yet) will manage a visual assessment. Many of the tests done are objective, not requiring the child’s feedback, and it is fairly easy to distinguish between children who want glasses as a novelty and those who actually need them. Acne Scarring Acne scarring occurs due to the intense inflammation that occurs mainly in cystic acne. The inflammation damages the collagen in the deeper layers, resulting in collagen loss that causes indentations on the skin. Excessive picking of skin in milder cases of acne may also result in collagen damage and scarring, as well as pigmentation in darker skin types. Acne scarring can be prevented with early and appropriate management of active acne. There are five main types of acne scarring: Ice-Pick Scars: Ice pick scars are very deep scars, with sharp borders. They look almost as if they have been poked into the skin with an ice pick. Boxcar Scars: Boxcar acne scars have a sharp border, but they are much wider than ice pick acne scars. They appear as round ‘pits’ on the surface of the skin. Rolling Scars: Rolling acne scars do not have sharp borders; they appear as indented ‘wavy’ patches of the skin. Hypertrophic Scars and Keloids: Hypertrophic acne scars are firm bumps raised above the surface of the skin – most commonly found on the chest and back. Discolouration: There are two main types of discoloration after acne – postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (dark spots) and post-inflammatory erythema (reddish spots).

This is very concerning for health care providers, parents and teachers alike. It is therefore essential that parents and teachers are aware of the signs and symptoms of depression so that treatment can be obtained as soon as possible.

South Africa’s First Online Craft Market Marguerite Conradie, a 24-year-old local entrepreneur has started South Africa’s first online craft market. “I have worked in the corporate world since the day after Matric. I put myself through a marketing degree in the evenings and in April this year I resigned and went back-packing for four months. While I was travelling, I realised how big the world is and I gained such perspective. I realised how proud I am to be South African – I made vetkoek, taught people how to gumboot dance, sokkie and braai... The kids’ entertainment team was on top form and kept the kids on the go 24/7! A slippery slide that was erected on a grassy slope was a big hit, with a certain marketing manager also very daringly giving it a go (more than once) and displaying her catching skills on the way down. We hardly saw our son all weekend! My hubby and son enjoyed a quad bike experience which they absolutely loved judging by their very dirty faces when they got back. The hotel also caters for conferences and weddings, and there was a wedding on the go when we were there, with the bride and groom flying to the top of the mountain peak for their photos – so special! Rates vary dependent on the type of room selected (from standard, to superior, to honeymoon, to presidential). Our inter-leading rooms were very comfortable and offered a full bathroom in each room plus a verandah.

Yummy Banana Bread
