Our lovely cover stars this month are the all-female team from Lake, Smit & Partners: Beryl Naidoo (HR manager), Kerry Beard (medical secretary), Leigh Smit (admin manager), Fazella Ismail (head radiographer) and Veronica Ramruch (accounts manager). October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and mammography still remains the best means of early detection. Lake, Smit & Partners offers the most advanced mammography technology at their dedicated “Just for Women” Digital Mammography Centre. They have two state-of-the-art 3D Digital Tomosynthesis Mammography units at the centre. Why 3D Mammography? There is lower radiation dosage and superior image quality. 3D Mammography is a softer and gentler mammogram and helps significantly with early detection. Their “Just for Women” Digital Mammography Centre offers dedicated parking in a stand-alone centre (not in a hospital environment). They offer a lovely lounge area for you to relax and have a cup of tea and biscuits after your mammogram. The outpatient centre has a full time radiologist and specialist mammographers on site to provide you with care and excellence under one roof. Once your mammogram is complete, a report is automatically e-mailed to your referring doctor and your mammography images are digitally stored for life on their computer system. They also offer ultrasound and bone mineral densitometry (BMD) services at the centre. During the month of October Lake, Smit and Partners would like to offer all cash paying patients a 10% discount on their mammogram. To book your annual mammogram, or if you have any queries, please phone “Just for Women”” Digital Mammography Centre on 087 310 4990 or visit www. lakesmit.co.za or FB @lakesmitpartners

Annual Mum’s Mail High Tea a Glittering Success

The 13th Annual ‘Queen of the Desert’ Mum’s Mail High Tea in association with The Sunflower Fund was held on Friday 7 September at Durban’s Greyville Convention Centre.

The Queen of the Desert theme had a fun ‘Arabian Nights/ Moroccan’ vibe, and the 600 guests, all women, turned out in their magnificently themed outfits to support a great cause – The Sunflower Fund. The purpose of this annual event is to raise funds and awareness for The Sunflower Fund. This enables The Fund to give hope of life to patients diagnosed with life threatening blood disorders who are in need of a blood stem cell transplant. This year an amazing R260 000 was raised for this cause! On arrival, guests were treated to a glass of champagne sponsored by KWV and a free Pop Up Coffee cappuccino. They were able to shop up a storm at the wide range of pop-up shops, in the indoor ‘souk’ selling everything from shoes and jewellery to homeware, décor and clothes. There was also a special tea bar sponsored by Ciro and a pamper station for the ladies by iNsingizi Game Lodge & Spa, where they could relax with a foot and hand massage. The ladies could also have their photo taken at the ‘selfie box’ by Capitec.

Atkins and Neil Green from On Fire Comedy and the Survivors Dance Crew. The main speaker was Anneme Coetzee, a mentor and life coach, who gave an inspirational talk about empowering women to live their best life. Guests spent generously on the raffle tickets and surprise envelopes, for which the event has become well known – all these proceeds went to The Sunflower Fund. There were four large raffle packages valued at more than R54 000 up for grabs and prizes for the top three Best Dressed guests, Best Dressed Table of 10 and the Pregnant Fairy prize. There was also a Super Raffle this year, with 23 prizes valued between R1500 and R14768, including 2 diamond rings sponsored by NWJ Chatsworth. Guests also enjoyed a fun auction, where they could bid on four auction packages valued between R9000 and R19000 per package. Every guest went home with an amazing goodie bag packed with treats and a booklet full of vouchers from generous sponsors. A big thank you to headline sponsors Baby City, Capitec, La Lucia Mall and PWM Advisors. Huge thanks also go to B.O.N Natural Oils, iNsingizi Game Lodge and Spa, Chateau Gateaux, Ciro, KWV, Pop Up Coffee, Greyville Convention Centre, Makulu Event Producers, Black Coffee Design, Plan Ahead Events & Décor, Cheers Hiring and Events, Nan West Photography, Karen Monk Klijnstra, Jen’s Hair Couture, Kryolan KZN and Fabric & Bridal.

The show was opened with a stunning performance by the belly dancers of The Maya Company before guests enjoyed a sumptuous feast, brought to them by Eat Greek Caterers, which also included a delicious slice of Chateau Gateaux’s newly launched Key Lime Pie. Support Organ Donation at Bravissimo!

Bravissimo! is the brainchild of Fireworx inspired by the incredible true stories of the heroes and heroines who tirelessly devote their energy to Hero777. Join in the ‘race to save lives’, as they bring awareness to organ donation, increase the registry, connect the dots between role players and fulfil the dream of bringing to South Africa the technology required to do so, called ‘Heart in the Box’. Hero777 was started by Matthew Legemaate, who after being the recipient of a bi-lateral lung and heart transplant (almost a year ago) at only 20 years old, decided he needed to change perceptions, leaving a legacy in honour of his donor and their family. With Matthew’s love of fedoras and all things Italian, the organisers have created an event with a loose nod to “The Italian Job”! Fireworx presents an afternoon and evening of unsurpassed entertainment, with a heart-wrenchingly beautiful photography exhibition telling the journey of these heroes, a spectacular fashion show, a hilarious act by On Fire Comedy, live music and dancers, delicious Italian fare and a celebratory party to top all parties! Bravissimo! is on 13 October from 4pm until late at Hangar 8, Virginia Airport, Durban North. There will be secure parking and a cash bar available! All proceeds from Bravissimo! will go to HERO777. Review: Gooderson Monks Cowl Golf Resort Family holidays are precious times when you have the chance to relax and have fun together. So we were very excited about our trip to the Gooderson Monks Cowl Golf Resort and we weren’t disappointed. Located in the magnificent Champagne Valley in the Central Drakensberg is Gooderson Monks Cowl Golf Resort, proved to be the perfect staging post to explore this wonderful area, and it is only about a 3 hour drive from either Durban or Johannesburg. The resort itself has plenty to offer with golf, tennis, and mini golf. There is a spa for the adults to relax and a lovely pool and playground complex for the kids to go crazy. The accommodation is very comfortable, we stayed in one of the hotel rooms and they have self-catering units as well. The resort describes itself as intimate and is targeted at value holidays for families, the atmosphere is relaxed and the service personal. The food is wholesome and plentiful and that was very welcome at the end of a busy day exploring. We went out and about to see the local area and would highly recommend the Monks Cowl wilderness park for the excellent selection of hikes, which are mapped out for all levels of fitness. We loved walking in the foothills to the Drakensberg, visiting waterfalls, paddling in the streams and enjoying the crisp mountain air. We met many enthusiastic and happy looking visitors from all over the country and beyond, in the resort and the local area. Driving home with tired legs and reflecting on our little mountain adventure you can understand why visitors keep coming back. Review by Andrew Arthur. www.mumsmail.com

Chateau Gateaux Launches New Fabric Shopping Bags

When Chateau Gateaux launched their new environmentally friendly cake boxes, they made a commitment to look at other environmentally friendly alternatives they could use, without compromising on quality. They started with simple changes, like replacing all plastic straws with cardboard ones, and replacing their paper vouchers with a new digital app. Their take away cutlery is no longer plastic, but rather, bamboo. All branded still and sparkling water bottles now come in beautiful re-usable or recyclable glass bottles. Environmental awareness is an ongoing project within the company, and the latest improvement is replacing their plastic packets with a reusable fabric bag. The challenge was to find a bag big enough to fit all their cake sizes, and they also wanted to use a local manufacturer.

local causes. Chateau Gateaux is a national sponsor of The Sunflower Fund. The new fabric bags have been at all Chateau Gateaux stores for a number of weeks now and they can’t re-stock them fast enough! Once the last plastic bag has left the stores, there will be no more plastic bags leaving any Chateau Gateaux Patisserie! The new bags are very strong, cutting out the need to insert a plastic base at the bottom of the bag – which means the bags can also fold up into a very small size for shoppers’ convenience. They fold out into a large bag which is very convenient for all shopping (not just cakes) trips to the beach and book bags for school!

Curry and Seafood Nights at Vasco’s Restaurant

My family and I were recently invited to Vasco’s Restaurant to experience their Saturday evening Curry Buffet and it was truly amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel at home in the comfort of their African influenced space and were shown the culinary delights of the whole buffet before being seated in their beautiful dining room. Their dishes are prepared in a tandoori oven and are both visually appealing and easily distinguished by their exceptional flavour - we really were left wanting more. In fact there was so much deliciousness to choose from that when I left, I remarked that I wished I had two stomachs because I seriously could have eaten another plate if I had the capacity!

tender - the kids and hubby also enjoyed it immensely, so we were a very happy family that evening! Our kids are connoisseurs when it comes to curries (although they don’t like them too hot!) and we often have to drive a half hour away to visit our favourite Indian restaurant in Umhlali, North Coast but now we don’t need to, as Vasco’s is our new favourite! Vasco’s is very easy to find as it is located at the Hilton Durban The dessert display was also stunning with so much to choose from, I think my kids had at least 2 desserts – that’s the beauty of a buffet, you get to try a little bit of everything! Breast Cancer in SA

Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting females in South Africa and is the leading cause of cancer death, according to the National Cancer Registry. There have been significant advances in the fight against breast cancer resulting in earlier diagnosis, improved surgical and medical management, and most importantly, better survival. Mammographic screening for breast cancer remains the best method for screening. Elevated-risk females should remain on an annual screening programme commencing at the age of 40. Riskstratification can be done by your breast clinician, and can assist in ensuring that the correct screening protocol is followed.

How do we treat breast cancer? The management of breast cancer is multimodal therapy which may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy and targeted therapy. The treatment depends on the stage of the cancer and the tumourbiology. The decision is usually made as a combined decision between the surgeon and the oncologist. Is a mastectomy the best form of surgical management for breast cancer? The recommended surgical management for early stage breast cancer is Breast Conservation Therapy (partial excision of the breast). There must be a good reason as to why a female should have a mastectomy for breast cancer. Your breast surgeon What should you do if you are concerned? should discuss the options with you. One should consult with a breast clinician if there are any concerns. Your breast By Dr Pramod Reddy (Specialist Breast and surgeon/clinician may be able to assess if General Surgeon), Director of the Durban there is a concern of pathology or not. Back Awareness

Although Back Awareness week was in September, it is never too late to learn how to take care of your back. Viranna and Bodha Physiotherapists share some of their knowledge and expertise with us. Physiotherapy is a health care profession that assesses, diagnoses, treats and works to prevent disease and disability through physical means. Physiotherapists are skilled professionals that use a variety of techniques to help your muscles and joints work to their full potential. They are first-line practitioners who are clinically trained according to scientific evidence to assess, diagnose and treat back pain using modalities such as electrotherapy, dry needling, spinal mobilisations and exercise programmes, taking into consideration your lifestyle and capabilities. “Patients are still able to come directly to us; however we still work in close collaboration with our medical colleagues namely GPs, spinal orthopaedic surgeons and neurologist etc.,” explains Eddie Bodha. Their assessment and clinical diagnosis is

often supported by further investigations such as x-rays and MRI scans. Some of the frequent causes of back pain include: • Strained muscles or ligaments • A muscle spasm • Muscle tension • Damaged or prolapsed disks. During Back Awareness Week, Physiotherapists aim towards promoting the prevention of back injury through proper biomechanics, ergonomics, posture and exercises. In promoting back care among our youth, especially scholars, proper carrying techniques of their heavy school bags forms an integral part of maintaining good posture and alignment of the spine. Five tips to remember: • Don’t sit for more than 30 minutes. • Change your position frequently • Bend your knees and not your back when lifting objects • Regular core strengthening exercises • Good ergonomics in the workplace = good posture = no pain! Mental Health Awareness: Do You Know If Your Teen Is Struggling?

If you suspect a child or a young teenager of having a mental illness, then it’s usually possible to drag them along to the doctor. But getting older teenagers and young adults to recognise that they have a problem, and making sure that they get help, can be far more difficult. Dr Rosemary Leonard’s advice if your child shows any signs of a mental illness: “The most common problems I see are depression, eating disorders, and obsessive compulsive disorders and phobias. Both depression and eating disorders can become serious, but early treatment can prevent a young life from spiralling out of control.” All teenagers have ups and downs, so knowing when a seemingly normal reaction has turned into a genuine mental illness can be very difficult. Generally, if someone is behaving out of character for more than a month, then start considering whether they need help.

25

Depression This can cause obvious sadness, but other signs can be a loss of interest in activities, excessive tiredness, and poor concentration. There may be a clear trigger, such as a relationship break-up, but it can come on out of the blue. Suicide is a particular risk in young men. Eating disorders Signs of anorexia include meal avoidance, an obsession with food, including cooking for others and exercising to excess. Bulimia can be more difficult to spot, but erratic eating habits, disappearing to the toilet after meals (to vomit), and frequent diarrhoea (due to laxative abuse), along with wildly fluctuating weight, can be clues. Call The SA Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) on 0800 20 50 26 for a referral to a psychologist, psychiatrist, or support group or visit www.sadag.org.

Dr Des@home: ADHD Awareness Month

“The ADHD brain is like a Ferrari engine... with bicycle brakes.” - Dr Ned Hallowell. ADHD in children is usually diagnosed by a doctor after a child has shown six or more specific symptoms of inattention or hyperactivity on a regular basis for more than six months in at least two settings. This is a diagnosis that takes several steps to get enough information from you, your child, the teacher and a psychologist that specialises in educational assessments. The diagnosis can be made from the age of five and can be classified as: • <15%: Hyperactive/impulsive type. They fidget, blurt answers, can’t wait for their turn, interrupt others, can’t stay seated and are very noisy and talkative. Their excessive climbing causes multiple injuries, but for the most part they can pay attention. • 23-30%: Inattentive type. Formerly called attention deficit disorder (ADD). These children are not overly active. They lose items, don’t listen, don’t finish tasks, and are disorganised and easily distractible.

They cannot work alone, love watching television, might be anxious and are often female. • 50-75%: Combined type (inattentive and hyperactive/impulsive). Kids treated with both ADHD drugs and behavioural therapies have better social skills. Drugs for Childhood ADHD Stimulants such as Ritalin and Concerta, are highly effective treatments for childhood ADHD and help children focus their thoughts and ignore distractions. It is not the preferred drug for introverted children and may cause abdominal pain, lack of appetite and insomnia. Non stimulants like Strattera works better for the introverted child and assists with anxiety. It takes up to six weeks to work and is best started during holidays. We often use these in combination - every child is different. By Dr Deseré Ferreira, 031 – 582 5301, www.drdferreira.co.za.

Healthy Snacks for Kids

School Health Week is in October, and we know how hard it is to think of new AND healthy snack ideas. Here are some simple ideas that you can customise to suit your little one’s taste throughout the day!

Breakfast Smoothies: Smoothies are a great way to pack in the fruits and veggies! Sometimes kids don’t eat very much of their lunch at school, and a smoothie packs in the nutrients that they may miss out on during the day. I like to make them for breakfast when I have time, and I pack all sorts of fruit and veggies in. Our favourite is banana, strawberries, blueberries and Greek yoghurt. Crunchy Roasted Chickpeas: This makes a tasty high fibre snack for school lunch boxes! Preheat oven to 230 degrees C, drain and blot chickpeas with a paper towel to dry them. In a bowl, toss chickpeas with a dash of olive oil, and season to taste with salt, garlic salt, and cayenne pepper

27

(optional). Spread on a baking sheet, and bake for 30 to 40 minutes, until browned and crunchy. Watch carefully the last few minutes to avoid burning. Toast with Avo and Egg: If your child comes home at lunch time, they are bound to be ravenous. My son is mad about egg and avocado, so this is an ideal after school meal for him. It’s packed with goodness and it also keeps the hunger worms at bay! We make one boiled egg, sliced, on top of whole-wheat toast and topped with avo slices. Yummy!

Simple Grooming Tips for Gents

Oh, I can just see the typical eye rolling that we would get from our gents on this topic… Gents should look after their face, skin and hair, but it does not need to be a lengthy process, instead let’s keep it simple!

First up, he should cleanse his skin with a decent, PH-balanced skin cleanser and not just a bar of soap or shower gel. The latter mentioned products tend to strip the essential acid mantle from the face, leaving it prone to breakouts or very dry. Rather invest a little and get a good facial wash, making sure to use it in the mornings and evenings. Moisturise the skin. Since everyone is different – I would highly recommend a serum instead of a cream for those that do not enjoy ‘grease’ on the skin. A serum is mostly water-based and fast absorbing, leaving the skin refreshed but not sticky.

brands out there that offer slightly moisturising, mattifying or even mineral powder sunscreens that are non-greasy. All facial hair should be kept at bay by cutting and trimming where needed. Neaten eyebrows and wax or trim nose and ear hair. If your gent is sporting a beard, a high-quality beard oil is recommended to condition it and keep it looking magnificent. A good quality shampoo (and conditioner) will also ensure that his mane stays clean and healthy. Knitted Knockers for Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among South African women, with a lifetime risk of 1 in 33 women in SA (according to the 2009 National Cancer Registry).

Knitted Knockers are 100% cotton knitted prosthesis for breast cancer survivors who have had a mastectomy. They are a free alternative to the silicon prosthesis. Made from all natural materials, they are lightweight, comfortable, do not require a special bra and are given, free of charge, to breast cancer survivors. Knitted Knockers are made by volunteer knitters all over the world, including South Africa. They should only be knit from the softest, organic cotton. Makeup Tips to Make you Look Younger

No matter your age, there’s always a day or two when you wish you could look a little younger. Sure, you’re already beautiful as you are, but for those early mornings after a night of no sleep, you might want to know a trick or two to turn the clock back a bit.

Go easy with foundation Keep your skin fresh looking without adding heavy foundations. A light mineral makeup will balance the colour of your skin and keep it fresh looking. Whatever light foundation you choose, make sure you avoid really cakey products. Heavy foundation will settle Here are a few tips from professional into all the fine lines and pores and make makeup artists: you look older. The Whites of Your Eyes After your eyeshadow application, put a bit of pure white on the corners of your eyes by the tear ducts. The bit of white draws attention to your eyes and actually makes them look a little bigger. Plus, the white brightens up potential discoloration around the eyes which makes you look more awake and energised.

Keep it creamy As lines start to form on your face, you may want to change your makeup to suit your changing skin. One easy way to do this is to use cream-based products. Professional makeup artist, Bustle beauty expert, and owner of Sugar Skull Makeup Marissa Hohner says, “Cream blushes, cream eyeshadow, cream highlighters will all give you a younger appearance. The If you’d like a fancier or more festive look, more moisturised your skin looks, the put a bit of light-coloured shimmer over the younger your skin appears.” white. Then your eyes will really sparkle! Source: www.healthyway.com.

Kids Life Coaching

PRE-SCHOOL AND BABY CARE

Life coaching for kids is about mindset development – it targets the root of the thought patterns that hold kids back. Coaching empowers kids and teens with a specific set of skills (and wisdom) that they can use throughout their childhood, teen years, and for the rest of their lives. Certified Wisdom Coach, Kirsten Brissett, is passionate in helping kids manage the ups and downs of growing up. Anxiety, divorce, low self-esteem, and failures hold our kids back. “I have seen in my coaching that children can be successful, no matter how much they are limited by their academic abilities, social life or family structure,” says Kirsten. KidsUnique coaching empowers kids to discover their potential and go for their dreams! Is your child dealing with the burdens of bullying, self-identity, peer pressure or negative parental influence? Is your child experiencing self-doubt, lacking confidence or in a slump?

DIY Bouncy Ball

The ingredients needed to create these bouncy balls are not themselves bouncy. As you collect the ingredients for your balls, look at the textures – glue is sticky and corn starch is powdery. Neither one can bounce on its own. The molecules of the ingredients are small and generally incomplete. But when you add a catalyst to the glue, starch and water, it transforms the characteristic properties of these ingredients – creating a rubbery-textured polymer. To make this ball, your kids just link and mix the molecules together.

of that liquid and throw away the container. We stored it in a re-sealable plastic bag for several days and it stayed fresh until it simply picked up too much dirt and we had to throw it out! Modifications for younger kids: Younger children can have fun bouncing balls – see which one of them can bounce their ball the highest.

Modification for older kids: Older kids can test different sizes to make modifications to elicit more bounce A quick word of caution: this recipe includes action. Encourage your kids to tweak the borax, which is not edible. Please don’t let ingredients – how does the ball change if children chew on the finished product or you add more or less of just one ingredient? taste it during any steps along the way. They can also test out different shapes and how that effects how the ball bounces. We Materials: found that this is a forgiving recipe – almost (Makes two bouncy balls) all of our versions bounced to some degree. • 4 tablespoons warm water • 1 teaspoon borax Tip: • 2 disposable cups The ingredients and instructions to make a • 1 disposable spoon for stirring homemade bouncy ball will make a great • 2 tablespoons glue gift when packaged together in a small • 2 tablespoons corn starch plastic bucket. • Food colouring • Measuring spoons Method: Pour the water and borax into the first cup and stir the mixture until dissolved. Next pour the glue, corn starch, food colouring and ½ teaspoon of the mixture from the first cup into the second cup. After the corn starch and glue are mixed together, pour the contents of cup 2 into cup 1. Our ball recipe seems to work best if you mix the glue, corn starch, and food colouring first, then pour it into the borax mixture. Let the ingredients in the second cup interact on their own for about 15 seconds, then stir. We found that a folding method was the most effective way to stir the ingredients. Once the mixture becomes difficult to stir, scoop it out of the cup and roll it into a ball. There will be plenty of watery borax mixture left in the container. Science Experiment: Magic Potion

082 574 3230

Science question: What happens when chemicals break down? According to the law of thermodynamics, chemical compositions eventually fall apart. With hydrogen peroxide we can watch the molecules break down. All we need is a catalyst – yeast.

The experiment: Pour the hydrogen peroxide and bubble solution into your tall bottle. Add at least 15 drops of food colouring. In a separate cup, mix the warm water and the yeast and stir with a spoon. Once the yeast is dissolved into the water, pour the yeast mixture into the bottle and stand back and watch!

Supplies needed: • 1 cup (235ml) 3% hydrogen peroxide • ¼ cup (60ml) bubble solution • Tall bottle or vase • Food colouring • Cup • ¼ cup (60ml) warm water • 1 tablespoon (9g) active dry yeast (or 1 packet) • Spoon • A place to be messy

The outcome: A ton of bubbles emerge from the bottle. Why it worked: The yeast is a catalyst. It will break down the hydrogen peroxide. The bubble solution thickens the surface tension, capturing the escaping oxygen in lots and lots of frothy bubbles. Did you know? Water is also a mixture of the hydrogen (2 atoms) and oxygen (1 atom) and is a relatively stable chemical. Unlike water, hydrogen peroxide has two oxygen atoms, making it less stable than water.

Easy Forest Log Cake

Fun Party Game

Well if you are a low maintenance mom like me, this cake will suit you down to the ground. It’s SO easy and requires no baking! You can use the mini caramel rolls as suggested, or use bigger ones if you want a bigger cake!

A very cool chocolate teen party game to play, it is a hit at every teenage party we have put together this year.

You will need: • Cake board or large flat plate • White and brown butter icing • 2 mini caramel/jam/Swiss rolls • Desiccated coconut • Green food colouring • Shop bought fondant in white, red, black, purple and yellow • Variety of sugar flowers, leaves and butterflies

What you need: Hat, scarf, mittens, large chocolate bar, dice, knife and fork.

How to play: Sit in a circle. Place the knife, fork, chocolate bar wrapped in wrapping paper a few times, the hat, scarf, and mittens in the middle of the circle. Roll a dice then pass it on, if you end with a 6 you must quickly put all the clothing on and use your knife and fork to dig into the chocolate bar and eat as much as you can whilst the dice is being rolled and passed on by the other players. If someone Method: gets a 6 whilst you are in the middle trying Use a dab of butter icing to stick the 2 mini to eat the chocolate, you must take off all caramel/swiss rolls together lengthwise on the dress-up items and let the next person a cake board or flat plate. Cover with brown with the 6 have a go!! icing, roughening it to create the texture of bark. You can also place the dress-up items outside of the circle area and the chocolate Add a few drops of green food colouring to in the middle of the circle, the person who the dessicated coconut and mix in very well. got the 6 will then dress outside the circle Spread the white butter icing over the cake and cut chocolate in the circle, this will give board and sprinkle with the green coconut, the group more time to roll the dice. pressing it down lightly, for grass. Use the fondant to make the ladybird, worm The person cutting the chocolate must cut and bees, and place these on the forest log. one block of chocolate at a time and eat it with the fork. (You can put a little container with plastic forks out and another bowl for used forks). A great game for laughter and pic time!

Readers’ Feedback Competition

SUNCOAST

We have an amazing competition for you! How would you like to WIN 10 CineCentre movie tickets? All you need to do to enter is send us feedback on companies and services that you found through Mum’s Mail! Here are some of the amazing responses we have had so far. I recently had a baby shower to prepare for, so I visited Excess Factory Shop (advertised in your mag) for some shower gifts. This place is amazing – goodies that I usually buy from Dis-Chem/Clicks was available – and at almost half the price! I also managed to stock up on some lovely ‘smellies’ (like shower gels/hand lotions) for my own home. Prunella Muruvan. Looking for a playschool for your baby can be such a daunting experience for new mommies! I was on this journey earlier this year and felt so overwhelmed having to find a playschool that would suit me and my baby. Spending hours on the net, asking friends, and driving around; I still had no luck. I found Mum’s Mail on my cousin’s table and right on the front page advertised was Toddler Park playschool! I browsed to the 3rd page and there I found more info and just loved what I saw. I arranged to view the school the very next day and haven’t looked back since. My daughter smiles every day when she gets to playschool. Thank you, Mum’s Mail, for helping me on my mommy journey. I am truly grateful! Kirsten Brissett & Baby Summer.

The winning comment is from Kirsten Brisset, who will receive 10 Cine Centre movie tickets plus a Chateau Gateaux cake! Send your feedback to editor@mumsmail.com to stand a chance to WIN too! 59
