Editor’s Life

The End of Winter is Nigh… What a relief that will be, although I have to say, that I have managed to wear my flip flops and short sleeve tops for most of this winter, however I do get a few odd looks and comments because people think I am clearly off my rocker not wrapping up warm in the winter! August, as well as being Women’s Month, is also an exciting month for the Mum’s Mail team, as we are fast approaching the much anticipated, eagerly awaited ‘12th Annual Mum’s Mail “Fantasea” High Tea in association with The Sunflower Fund’. The event, on Friday 1 September at Greyville Racecourse, is completely SOLD OUT, due to the number of ladies who had already put their names down on our waiting list last year! We are still taking donations of gifts, hampers and gift vouchers for our raffle and secret envelope prizes, and we are always grateful for more goody bag items to spoil the 650 ladies who attend the event. If you want to get involved, please email alice@ thealist.co.za (you may remember the one and only Alice Leah, previous Editor of Mum’s Mail…). Alice is helping again this year and is co-ordinating all the sponsors and prizes, etc. I’d like to say a HUGE ‘Thank You’ to our advertisers who make this FREE magazine possible, without them there would be no Mums Mail. We’d love to hear everyone’s comments about our little mag - please email me at editor@mumsmail. com. Remember, we have a Readers’ Life competition where you can stand a chance to win a pair of movie tickets and a delicious Chateau Gateaux cake if you’re chosen as the overall winner for the month! Happy Women’s Month!

Everyday Life

Origin of Women’s Month and Day National Women’s Day is a South African public holiday celebrated annually on 9 August. The day commemorates the 1956 march of approximately 20 000 women to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to petition against the country’s pass laws that required South Africans defined as “black” under The Population Registration Act to carry an internal passport, known as a pass, that served to maintain population segregation, control urbanisation, and manage migrant labour during the apartheid era. The first National Women’s Day was celebrated on 9 August 1994.

Federation of South African Women (Fedsaw) led by four women: Lillian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa and Sophia Williams De Bruyn. These leaders delivered petitions to the then Prime Minister JG Strijdom’s office in the Union Buildings. Women throughout the country had put their names to these petitions indicating their anger and frustration at having their freedom of movement restricted by the hated official passes.

The historic march in 1956 was a turning point in the role of women in the struggle for freedom and society at large. Since that eventful day, women from all walks of life became equal partners in the struggle for a non-racial and non-sexist South Africa.

Women’s Month is a tribute not only to the thousands of women who marched on that day in 1956, but also a tribute to the pioneers of the women’s movement in this country. National Women’s Day draws attention to significant issues South African women still face, such as parenting, domestic violence, sexual harassment in the workplace, unequal pay, and schooling for all girls.

The march was coordinated by the

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Gooderson Drakensberg Gardens Resort for a few nights with a group of journalists.

Situated in the Southern Drakensberg, just two and a half hours drive from Durban, the resort is set on a scenic 860 hectare World Heritage site, and is a one-of-a-kind retreat for guests to reconnect and unwind. Preparing to Mediate

Attorneys & Mediators Negotiation Coach

Do you have a difficult problem with someone – seemingly, impossible to resolve? Don’t give up hope. There is a method of dispute resolution that does not need expensive lawyers, weapons or violence. You need not even ‘walk away’ from a perfectly good claim, intimidated by the possible cost or other risks of pursuing your rights. And forget about hoping that the Universe will intervene, because you are deserving. It won’t – we can’t all win the Lotto! Try mediation. It is a process in which a trained professional (the mediator) facilitates a difficult conversation between two opposing people, families or groups. The mediator is a kind of referee, but he does not make any judgment or decision, he merely assists the opposing sides to conduct a civilised negotiation. Experience worldwide shows that it is most often successful – and it saves time, money and most of the animosity associated with other methods.

BEHIND MANY A GREAT BUSINESS!

That’s where you will find our IT solutions • IT sales, repairs & upgrades • Server solutions • Internet • Web hosting & design • Networking • Backup & maintenance Tel: 031 701 3167 sales@damit.co.za |www.damit.co.za

Don’t be fooled, however. It is not easy. It is, after all, a negotiation. To succeed, you need to prepare in the following respects: • Self-knowledge and control. Know when and how your opponent can ‘push your buttons’. Learn to resist the temptation to blow your gasket. • Know the facts involved, intimately. Have documentary support, if possible. • Understand your opponent’s point of view and what they really want. Ask questions. Listen attentively. All successful negotiations have something to satisfy both sides. • Use the skills and techniques that negotiators employ. Read one of the many good books on the subject, or consult a Negotiation /Mediation Coach. • Take time. Get ready. Be patient. Succeed!

Do you own your own business and would like it to grow through successful networking? BNI Professionals is looking for a Builder, Construction Company, General Maintenance & an Experienced Photographer to join our chapter.

Delicious Life

Vasco’s Restaurant Richly coloured contemporary South African design, coupled with the smells of exotic spices and freshly prepared breads and pastries, heralds the arrival of Vasco’s, the new buffet and a la carte restaurant, located in the Hilton Durban, a place where you can feel at home in the comfort of this South African influenced, uniquely Durban environment. My husband and I were recently invited to Vasco’s Restaurant for their Off the Hook Seafood Evening. We were treated to an array of delicious fresh seafood – everything was just scrumptious but a special mention must go to the mussel soup and the crispy calamari! We were even able to choose our own fresh seafood which was cooked while we watched on. The Tandoori oven takes centre-stage at the impressive inter-active Vasco’s buffet counter. The delectable buffet-style offerings are the best samplings of contemporary South

African and International cuisine. Vasco’s interactive live-cooking station and lavish spreads vary from an assortment of seafood, grills, curries, pasta and pastries to dishes prepared “while you watch”. A family room and Harvest Table add to the sociable vibe at Vasco’s and offer something for everyone. There is also a beautiful covered outside patio, a perfect spot for large family gatherings or celebrations. Regular themed evenings include seafood, curries and, moving outside, the best of South African braais. The casual dining venue focuses on providing excellent food from quality ingredients and complements this with attention-to-detail customer service – synonymous with Hilton Durban. Re-Surfacing your Swimming Pool

Specialists in Resurfacing & Renovating Swimming Pools.

There are a number of swimming pool surfaces to choose from. Tiling, fibreglass lining, marble plaster and beadcrete are the more popular finishes. There have been other trends come and go, such as paint, epoxy paint and vinyl lining.

New Pools Repairs & Renovations Maintenance, Servicing & Cleaning Suppliers of Pool Cleaning Equipment Solutions for any Budget

Although painting a pool is the cheapest option, it is not the best in terms of longevity. The problem with painting a pool surface is that it blisters and peels after a while, and you cannot paint over an existing layer of paint, nor can you plaster or fibreglass over paint. So you have to grind every square inch of paint off the surface of the pool before applying anything else.

The most popular pool surfaces in South Africa are marble plaster and fibreglass lining. Tiling a pool surface is also a favourite, but it is expensive. Fibreglass lining is a good 25% to 50% more expensive than marble, but it is a lower maintenance surface, making black algae impossible to get its claws into. It can also withstand a harsher, acidic water balance and damage to the fibreglass is minimal.

Standard and custom-made shower doors. Wide range of mirrors suitable for the entire home.

Marble plaster requires good water balance for it to last. Maintaining good swimming pool water balance is important in any event, not only to protect the surface of the pool, but also to make the water comfortable for swimmers, get the most efficiency from the pool chemicals and get longevity out of other pool equipment. Remember; always use a reputable swimming pool contractor to apply the new surface to your pool. Ensure they are members of the National Spa and Pool Institute of South Africa. Grow Your Own Salad Greens

In yesteryear, the humble lettuce leaf was used mostly as a limp, green garnish next to a meaty dinner, or to keep one’s picnic sandwiches fresh. Now lettuce has morphed into a group of pretty salad varieties (some as decorative as garden flowers!), that have become part of our daily cuisine, because they contain few calories but have a high mineral and vitamin content.

Honest, reliable pool service, maintenance and friendly advice all year round

It’s definitely worth growing your own salad greens, because most are quick and easy crops to grow and produce a harvest within a month or two. You can do it in a sunny garden bed, or as a portable ‘salad bar’ in a roomy wooden box or wide container. The loose-leafed varieties are the most practical because you can harvest the individual leaves for up to three months before replanting. Others, like the butter head or iceberg, are picked when the heads form so it’s best to sow seeds at three to four weekly intervals to have a constant supply. If you are not up to seeding your own plants, relax! Nurseries have most worthwhile varieties in stock as seedlings in punnets, which you just have to plant out.

The basics: • They need full sun, and in summertime it is best to grow them where they will receive morning sun only as they do not like excessive heat. • Use a fertile, well-draining soil medium. • Space seedlings about 30 cm apart to allow for good air circulation. • Keep the soil evenly moist at all times – drought stress can cause a bitter taste. • Fertilise monthly in the garden, and every two weeks in containers, with an organic water-soluble fertiliser rich in nitrogen. Prevent Burns this Winter

Even though winter is technically almost over, in Durban our real winter weather only arrives in August and September when we get our spring rains and cooler weather.

Most households are switching on heaters, lighting fires and have started increasing their intake of hot beverages. It is also the time of year when children are particularly vulnerable to burn injuries, with the majority occurring in the home environment. Children are particularly susceptible, as toddlers or pre-schoolers who are mobile and confined in small spaces in cold weather are at very high risk of thermal injury.

Dr Des@Home

Restless legs syndrome is one of the most undiagnosed diseases in children. It is a movement disorder causing an uncomfortable and irresistible urge to move ones legs which usually happens at bedtime or when lying down, but can occur at other times when the legs have been inactive. To relieve the discomfort, the child moves and stretches the legs, tosses and turns, or gets up and walks or runs around. The relief is usually immediate. The cause is unknown, but low iron, diabetes and neurological diseases need to be excluded. The associated daytime sleepiness due to lack of sleep may cause irritability, hyperactivity and difficulty concentrating. Treatment options: cutting caffeine, unnecessary medication and other herbal products and doing a trial of iron, magnesium and folic acid supplements. If the symptoms are severe, sleep studies can be done and anticonvulsants might be prescribed. Elevate the feet on a pillow, spend some money on a beanbag to warm before bedtime and spend some time massaging the little feet to enhance relaxation.

Hearing and Audiology Hearing is one of the five important senses by which sound is perceived. The ear is a complex organ which detects and transports sounds to the brain, in a split second. Not only does the ear receive sound, but it also aids in balance and body position. The phenomenon of hearing awards us the opportunity of hearing laughter, a loving comment, music, as well as to recognise danger. Therefore the valuable sense of hearing deserves special protection.

talking from behind you? • Do you turn up the volume on the TV or car radio? • Do you have difficulty on the phone? • Do you have difficulty hearing at the cinema? • Do you find it hard to hear in noisy environments, such as parties and restaurants? • Do you have a ringing or buzzing sound in your ear?

You may not initially notice your hearing loss because the process is gradual. If you answer “yes” to some of the following questions, you should consult your audiologist: • Do you often ask people to repeat what they say? • Do you have trouble hearing in groups? • Do you need to look closely at someone to follow a conversation? • Do others seem to mumble? • Do you find it hard to hear someone

The profession of audiology is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and management of hearing loss and disorders of the balance system. The audiologist is trained to identify and evaluate the nature and degree of hearing loss in babies, children and adults and to implement appropriate management. Early Detection of Hearing Loss

Early detection of hearing loss is important as unidentified hearing difficulties can have a significant impact on your child’s speech and language development, as well as their social and cognitive abilities. Children start developing communication skills in the first six months of life, therefore maximum exposure to all sounds as soon as possible is critical. Skills such as localisation and discrimination are consolidated at a very early age and form the foundation for later auditory and language skills. The impacts of late diagnosis of hearing loss can include delays in speech and language acquisition, poor academic performance and negative effects on social and emotional development. Another concern regarding late diagnosis of hearing loss is the cost of interventions needed to address these delays. It is also important to note that children with chronic ear infections or buildup of fluid in the middle ear space may

experience some degree of hearing loss. If this is left untreated, it can result in a more permanent condition. It is possible to test a baby’s hearing within a few hours following their birth and it is recommended that prior to hospital discharge, every newborn undergoes hearing screening. However, a late onset or progressive hearing loss can still develop subsequent to this newborn hearing screening and therefore, continued monitoring of a child’s hearing is imperative. School hearing screenings provide parents with an opportunity to be made aware of this otherwise invisible condition. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s hearing or general development, it is advised that you contact an audiologist for further investigation. Stress: The Silent Killer

Stress can be short-term or long-term, and our bodies are influenced by the time of exposure to chronic stress hormones. This can lead to preventable health issues such as blood pressure, inflammation, lung disease, psychological problems and sleep disorders.

The doctors at Health Renewal all take a functional and holistic approach to helping patients deal with stress. The approach is not a “one size fits all”, but rather a tailormade plan for each individual, based on their needs.

We often forget that stress leads to premature ageing and even changes in the skin such as eczema and pigmentation. Managing these conditions depends as much on stress management, as on treatment of these symptoms.

The treatment options can include anything from: • Recommended oral products and supplements • Alternative stress management strategies • Hormone therapy and BIHRT • Ozone therapy • Sleep studies and recommended treatments based on the outcome of your study results • Brain mapping and training • Blood tests, hair analysis and gene testing to help diagnose potential problems. • At Home Stress Management

How Can Health Renewal Help? Because of their effects on the immune system, stress hormones impact the development and severity of many different diseases and bodily systems. In some instances, stress causes existing conditions to worsen. In other cases, stress seems to be a major factor creating vulnerability to developing new conditions in the first place.

If you feel stressed visit www.healthrenewal.co.za or contact one of the branches in Durban on 0861 SKIN SA for more information.

SCLEROTHERAPY FOR SPIDER VEINS

BEFORE

AFTER

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a solution directly into the vein that causes it to scar & collapse, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue & eventually fades.

WHY CHOOSE SCLEROTHERAPY FOR SPIDER VEINS? Sclerotherapy is considered the treatment of choice for spider leg veins. Beneficial Acids in Skin Peels and Skin Products

In past issues we have discussed the different Alpha Hydroxy Acids as well as Beta Hydroxy Acids, but what about acids that are not as well-known? Azelaic acid is naturally found in the skin, however it is also found in wheat, rye and barley. It helps to break down keratin build-up and has anti-bacterial and antiinflammatory properties. It is widely used to treat rosacea, flaky skin, acne as well as hyper-pigmentation. Lactobionic acid is a distant cousin of glycolic acid and is also an AHA. It is considered to be a sugar acid and is a product of oxidised lactose. This acid is better tolerated than glycolic acid and helps to exfoliate and smooth the skin. Kojic acid (chemical derived from mushrooms), shikimic acid (derived from star anise) and phytic acid (natural plant anti-oxidant found in bran, cereal seeds and fruit seeds) are all acids that have whitening and brightening effects. These are regarded as tyrosinase inhibitors, meaning they limit and block the pathways of melanin production. These are therefore commonly used to help treat and lighten pigmentation. Tartaric acid is derived from grapes and apricots and falls into the alpha hydroxy acid group. It is a potent protective anti-oxidant that helps fight free radical damage. Pyruvic acid is an Alpha-Keto acid that converts to lactic acid. It improves skin texture, fine lines, and wrinkles and is used for sun-damaged skin and skin with signs of advanced ageing.

I was lucky enough to go there recently, where they have a lovely outdoor beauty spa, with a ceiling covered in soft silk drapes that leaves you feeling relaxed and ready to face another day. I was treated to a wonderfully relaxing Reflexology Foot Massage, an Eyelash Tint and a Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage. When I stepped off the bed, I felt like I was on cloud nine! Tips on How to Keep Your Cat’s Teeth Clean: Part 1

24 HR EMERGENCY CARE

Proper Dental Hygiene Cats have 30 teeth once they reach adulthood, and taking care of all those teeth on their own isn’t easy. Unlike us, cats can’t brush their teeth or find a suitable domestic replacement for chewing on - bones and grass, their way of keeping their teeth clean when they’re out in the wild. Here are some ways to establish good dental hygiene. Be Vigilant That mild fishy scent known as “kitty breath” is considered normal. But if your cat has foul breath, this is a strong indicator he’s having oral problems. If left untreated, your cat’s breath is only going to get worse. Like people, when an animal has bad breath and is drooling, the cause is often related to gum disease and/or tooth decay.

PETS FOR ADOPTION

Give them a Yearly Check-up Just like people, cats suffer from dental issues that, if unchecked, can lead to serious health problems. Ask your vet to thoroughly check your cat’s teeth, gums, breath, and whether the gums are prone to bleeding, swelling or redness. Establish a Cleaning Routine and Learn How to Brush Cat Teeth Toothpaste specially designed for cats is readily available in flavours they’ll enjoy. Do NOT try to brush your cat’s teeth with “people” toothpaste; if fluoride toothpaste is ingested it can make your cat severely ill. Once your cat is used to the flavour of the “kitty toothpaste,” you can cradle your cat from behind, cup his chin, and lift up his lip to clean his teeth using either your gauze covered finger or a kitty toothbrush. Toys R Us Toys R Us understands that choosing a gift for the MANY birthday parties that your child is invited to can be tricky. They not only want to help you find a gift, but want to make choosing the best gift a seamless process. They will be using their expert advice to inform you of what’s new, what’s hot and what’s happening in the awesome world of Toy! In the world of Yo-kai, characters sometimes have those days where nothing goes right. They lose their keys. Their pants fall down. They fart in a crowded elevator! Chances are a Yo-kai is to blame. They’re everywhere, causing daily annoyances, and they’re invisible except to the characters who have befriended them. Kids and fans can experience the world of Yo-kai Watch with the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero and Yo-Motion Medals. Fans can imagine summoning Yo-kai characters, and when used with the medals, the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero projects animations, plays sounds, phrases, and most play a tribe song. Kids can insert one of the collectible Yo-Motion Medals displaying a Yo-kai into the watch to hear the character’s name, tribe song and more sounds. With over 70 Yo-Motion Medals recognised by the Yo-kai Watch Model Zero, kids and fans can build a collection of medals and store them in their Yo-kai Medallium Collection Book.

A Little School with a Big Heart

There is a Buddhist saying: “When a flower plant and a bamboo plant are both planted simultaneously, why does the bamboo take three years in the ground before it begins to sprout and grow faster and taller, compared to the flower plant blooming after eight weeks, then resting?” The reason is because the bamboo plant ensures a deep foundation/root before sprouting up above the ground. In the same way, the foundation phase of a child’s education is the most important, to ensure ‘deep roots’ are developed. Epcot Pre-School was founded in 1994 and has had 23 successful years of providing a first-class foundation phase education for children, guaranteeing peace of mind to many parents with regard to their little one’s well-being and education in the foundation years of their lives.

Autism Red Flags

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is one of the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorders among children today. Every child with ASD is unique but there are some common features (red flags) that may help us to identify at risk children: • Often do not respond to their name despite normal hearing • Prefers to play by themselves and often in their own world • More focused on objects than people • Limited eye contact • Lack of pointing • Using an adults hand to get what the child wants • Poor use of gestures • Does not have a preferred friend at school • Lining up toys • Echolalia (Repetition of words or phrases) • Hand flapping, body rocking, spinning or pacing • Repetitive spinning of car wheels or flicking of light switches • Extreme distress at small changes in routine • Excessively picky eater • Covers ears to unexpected sounds • Sensory seeking behaviour (rolling on floor, climbing, bending out of chairs) • Persistent toe walking • Speech delay with normal hearing (not saying single words at one year, two word phrases by two years and three word sentences by three years)

The core symptoms are usually present by the age of three years but there are often non-specific signs in infancy. These include difficulty with sleep or eating, extremes of temperament and lack of response to parental voice. Up to fifty percent of children with ASD will have apparently normal development until 15 to 30 months when loss of communication skills occurs. Diagnosis is most commonly made using the DSM 5 criteria or the Autism Direct Observation Schedule (ADOS) by a trained healthcare professional who has experience with children with ASD. Hours of Fun with Myfunbox Myfunbox works with experts to design and create a Myfunbox for kids aged four to six, with activities that help them learn, play and grow. We received one to try out, and my three-and-a-half year old son just loved it! First of all there was the excitement of receiving a box of new stuff to open, and then there were all the activities. The Myfunbox consists of eight items or activities, each promoting a different skill to be developed while having fun: iBuild: Puzzles for self-correcting and eye co-ordination skills. iSing: Rhymes for verbal and auditory skills. iColour: Colouring for motor skills and selfexpression skills. iMake: Arts & Crafts for bilateral coordination and self-regulation skills. iLearn: Flash Cards for memory and conceptual skills. iRead: Disney Books for communication and education skills. iCook: Recipe & Ingredients for sensory and confidence skills. iPlay: Toys for imaginative and social skills. DIY Galaxy Jar

PRE-SCHOOL AND BABY CARE • 3 Months to 6 Years • Home Away From Home • Play Area with Astroturf! • Snack and Cooked Lunch Provided

Supplies: • Clear glass bottle with a lid • Cotton balls – lots and lots of cotton balls • Glitter • Food dye and water • Glow in the dark paint How to make galaxy jars: • Fill your bottle half-full with cotton balls. Compress the cotton balls – they will fill the lower inch of the bottle when you are finished. • Pour some water into the bottle, enough to saturate the cotton balls. • Drip two to three drops of food colouring into your bottle. Add a squirt of glow paint and a dash of glitter. • Then – do it all again! Add more cotton balls, more water, more glitter and glowy juice. • As the layers grow it gets harder and harder to fill the jar. Using a stiff straw to tamper the cotton balls back down into their layer helps. • Keep adding new colours and new layers until your bottle is completely full. Put the lid on your bottle securely. As your bottle ages, you will want to rehydrate the cotton balls to keep the blurred “sky look”. • Set the bottle on your windowsill to allow the glow paint to charge. As your kids drift to sleep they will see a sky, including a glittery milky way looking back at them, from their galaxy bottle. These make great gifts for your kids’ friends and it’s a great way to upcycle glass jars and bottles.

Durban Paintball and Swat Laser Tag

Face Painting

Durban Paintball and SWAT Laser Tag is the ultimate venue for an action packed birthday party or team building event! They are the largest laser tag venue in the country and have 100 guns – this means that up to 100 people can play at any one time! Most of us know what paintball is – a sport where players “eliminate” opponents by hitting them with dye-filled, breakable oil or gelatine paintballs - it messy and loads of fun! If you are familiar with paint ball, then you will most likely know about laser tag too - laser tag is played with guns which fire infrared beams. Infrared-sensitive targets are commonly worn by each player. Laser tag is popular with a wide range of ages.

• BIRTHDAY PARTIES • CORPORATE EVENTS • TEAM BUILDING • GROUP EVENTS Play at our venue or we can come to your venue.

The major difference that laser games has to paintball games is that the laser guns project harmless infra-red beams and can be played virtually anywhere – day or night. There is no need for uncomfortable and cumbersome protective clothing, so moving around the laser tag combat field is as easy!

Paintball definitely has its place and it does provide some serious doses of adrenaline, but for those younger kids and people in general looking for the ‘less intense’ experience, then SWAT Laser Tag is for you… no more misted up goggles and huge bruises! Laser Tag War Games brings out the best in its competitors and if you are looking to build team spirit, camaraderie and nourish those leadership skills then look no further. Teamwork is the order of the day and good communication and a sound strategy will see you win the war! Make a Nature Walk Bracelet This is a great activity to get the kids playing outdoors. You could even turn this into a fun party game/challenge, and award a prize for the best bracelet.

First, you’ll need some tape. You can use duct tape, parcel tape or masking tape. Simply wrap it around your wrist until it overlaps to form a ring – you may need to get a grown-up to help you here. Oh, and make very sure you do this with the sticky side on the OUTSIDE; otherwise the only bit of nature stuck to your bracelet will be every single hair on your wrist. Ouch! Now, as you go for your walk, you can look out for natural objects with which you can decorate your bracelet. You could decide on a colour theme, or perhaps collect a rainbow of colours from red to violet. If you want to keep your bracelet for longer you could cut it off when you get home and use sticky-backed plastic to seal in the objects. To finish, puncture a hole at either end so you can retie it with a piece of ribbon or string to form a bracelet. Tip: Try to cover as much of the tape as you can. Kebabs seem to be all the rage at the moment, and they are SO easy to make. Here are some fun ideas for your child’s next birthday party!

Dino Kebabs Ingredients: Marshmallows, wooden skewers, white chocolate, dinosaur sprinkles. Push a skewer through 3 marshmallows, keeping them close together. Melt the chocolate in the microwave, stirring often. Dip the marshmallows into the melted chocolate, holding the kebab upside down over the bowl to allow most of the chocolate to drip down. Before the chocolate sets pour the sprinkles over the dinosaurs. Tip: instead of dinosaurs, use any other shape to match your theme. ‘Tutu Cute’ Birthday Party

August is here and this month we celebrate all things woman! As an all-ladies team of planners, Posh Events loves nothing more than creating a classy celebration for the littlest ladies. And so, this month their gift to you is a “how-to” list for a Posh pink pony party: • Décor is your key to bringing this theme to life. Layer a sparkly gold table runner over a beautiful white table cloth. Place a few small mirror-boxes along the runner, with small pink floral arrangements. Little carousel ponies standing upright in gorgeous pink floral arrangements make beautiful centrepieces. Finish off the table with place settings of custom napkins and plates with pony detail. • As guest favours, place little gold toy ponies and custom-decorated iced cookies on each place setting. • For an added feminine touch, slide a pink tutu over each chair’s backrest, and tie a bow around the waistband.

• A creative sweetie table is always a winner for girls and moms. Pink & white marshmallows, cake pops and cupcakes displayed in glass jars with tutu and floral detail, are perfect dainty delights for little dames. A floral wreath, with a gold carousel pony topper is the perfect finishing touch to your display. • Bring in a real carousel fun-ride for an extra special spoil for the little guests. Happy Pink Planning!
