Readers’ Feedback Competition

We have an amazing competition for you! How would you like to win 10 CineCentre movie tickets? All you need to do to enter is send us feedback on companies and services that you found through Mum’s Mail! Here are some of the amazing responses we have had so far. Received my Mum’s Mail from both my kids’ schools this month and was thankful to see advertising for many of the little things I had needed recommendations on recently, especially dentistry. It’s so convenient and great to know that you think like parents and advertise exactly what all of us are thinking at some point! I’ve used Hoppers and Bugs for jumping castles, Pietermaritzburg Gymnastics Academy for my daughter, dental care for myself and paediatricians for my son – all of which I would never have known about without Mum’s Mail! – Lorraine Hardman.

month and the Sorbet Spa last year. – Melissa van Amsterdam. What can I say other than “thank you” to Mum’s Mail who does it “all in one, Mum!” I started reading Mum’s Mail about two years back since my kids started bringing them home each month from school. I’ve planned my daughter’s first birthday using Mum’s Mail, hired party rides and entertainment. Thank you again Mum’s Mail on your excellent work! – Ayesha Moolla. I used the Family Dental Care, Durban – Dr Govender was amazing with my kids – so gentle and friendly! – Kumseela Naidoo.

The winning comment is from Lorraine Hardman, who will receive 10 CineCentre movie tickets. Send your feedback to editor@mumsmail.com to stand a chance to WIN too! I used the Midlands CineCentre last

Aesthetic Medicine

Aesthetic Medicine is a medical discipline, undertaken by registered medical practitioners, comprising a range of nonsurgical procedures to enhance, treat or change the appearance, colour, texture or structure of the cutaneous tissues or associated structures using techniques that combine both the medical and aesthetic considerations for the patient. As the aesthetic needs and desires of people are increasing, health and fitness are no longer seen as the only ingredients to staying younger for longer. People generally want to feel and look good. People today can reduce, prevent or even erase the signs of aging and skin damage without resorting to surgery. Thanks to a better understanding of the ageing process, non-surgical aesthetic procedures are becoming a more popular choice to prevent, delay or treat the effects of ageing.

Fillers • Chemical Peels • Laser and Light Treatments • Slimming and Cellulite Treatments • Non-surgical Face-lifts • Micro-needling • Treatments for Alopecia (Hair Loss) Despite the growing popularity of these procedures, there are potential risks with any aesthetic procedure. One should have realistic expectations of the results and understand that most treatments are not permanent and may need to be repeated in a few months or a year to maintain results. It is important to choose an appropriately qualified healthcare professional who is trained to administer aesthetic treatments, and who can help you make an informed decision. By carefully researching your options and the doctor who will provide the treatment, you can achieve a natural, refreshed look that enhances your appearance.

Down Syndrome Support Group

National Down Syndrome Day is observed on 20 October. Down syndrome is a genetic condition that typically causes some level of learning disability and characteristic physical features. Down syndrome is caused by the presence of an extra chromosome 21 in a baby’s cells.

Life with Down syndrome Although there is no “cure” for Down syndrome, there are ways to help children with the condition develop into healthy and fulfilled individuals who are able to achieve the level of independence right for them. This includes: • Access to good healthcare, including a range of different specialists. • Early intervention programmes to provide support for children and parents. • Good parenting skills and an ordinary family life. • Education and support groups to provide information and help for parents, friends and families. • Improved education and support has led to more opportunities for people with Down syndrome.

‘You’re Magical’ is a non-profit support group, founded by Trudy Chetty. It is designed to assist people with Down syndrome and to let them know they are special, gifted and unique. Trudy’s mission is to create and nurture a loving and inclusive community celebrating every person with a disability, including Down syndrome. “We will accomplish this mission by empowering and supporting families and individuals who have been touched by Down syndrome. We want to work together to increase education, promote public understanding and acceptance, work toward full inclusion, and defend the civil rights of individuals with Down syndrome,” says Trudy. “I want to make an appeal to parents of children with Down syndrome to join me and work together in the community to grow ‘You’re Magical’.” Contact Trudy Chetty on youremagical@webmail.co.za, trudychetty@webmail.co.za or phone 083 318 1276.
