Unlocking Romance in Paradise: Your Ultimate Guide to a Dream Destination Wedding in the Cayman Islands

On December 4 - 7th, 2023, MunaLuchi headed to the beautiful Cayman Islands for its 9th annual Coterie Retreat. While staying at the luxurious Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort and Spa, we explored the island's dreamy offerings in romance, culture, and adventure.

We are excited to share our destination wedding guide on how to plan your dream nuptials at this exquisite island getaway. From the best time to travel to finding the perfect wedding venue, securing your on-island vendor team, and more – we’ve got you covered!

Best time to travel:

While Cayman offers tropical weather year-round, like many Caribbean destinations it also has a hurricane season. This typically occurs between June and November. With this in mind, you’re probably wondering when is the best time of year to plan a wedding in Cayman.

In a 2023 article written by Rotsen J Pascual for Celebrations Weddings Grand Cayman (an event planning company that’s been executing events on the island for the last 30 years –

including portions of MunaLuchi’s 9thannual Coterie Retreat!), the company recommends Spring as the perfect time of year to wed in Cayman.

Pascual further explains, “The weather is idyllic, with warm and sunny days, and comfortable evenings. It’s the perfect season for an outdoor ceremony, with the refreshing sea breeze and sparkling ocean views.”

While Spring may be the ideal time for weddings according to on-island vendors, Cayman is happy to host destination weddings and events

year-round. The only catch is that Mother Nature can be unpredictable. Especially during Hurricane Season. To give couples and fellow travelers peace of mind, the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism continues to provide visitors with a Worry Free Hurricane Guarantee . This special promise, made in cooperation with participating on-island partners, covers cancellations due to a hurricane watch being issued or compensation if time on the island is cut short due to inclement weather.

Find out more details on Cayman’s Hurricane Guarantee at www. visitcaymanislands.com .

Choosing your wedding location:

Made up of three main islands including Grand Cayman , Cayman Brac , and Little Cayman , each location adds its own unique flair to the destination (with ample places to say “I do!”).

Couples can exchange vows on the bluffs of Cayman Brac, sail away to Little Cayman’s Owen Island for an intimate, private island experience, or hop on a quick flight to Grand Cayman for a stay at one of the island’s many luxurious accommodations.

Rum Tasting: Cayman Spirits Co. made a name for itself distilling alcohol in non-traditional ways. In the early 2000s, owners Walker Romanica and Nelson Dilbert and a small group of friends took to the sea to explore the concept of aging rum on the ocean floor. With some trial and error, they cracked the code and created the first-ever undersea rum maturation site. On May 27, 2008, they officially launched their Seven Fathoms Rum and have since created several premium rum flavors and even opened a distillery and tasting room. We recommend booking Cayman Spirits Co. for a rum tasting at your wedding reception or cocktail hour!

Rentals: Located in Goerge Town, Cayman Islands, Crown Event Rentals & Services provides top-notch event equipment for all of your wedding planning needs. With an emphasis on quality customer service, they are dedicated to providing memorable moments and have all the rentals necessary to help make your vision a reality.

Documentation needed to legally wed in the Cayman Islands includes Proof Of Citizenship and Age (Passport or Birth Certificate and Photo ID), Proof Of Marital Status (Divorce Decree or Death Certificate, if needed), Immigration Department Cards for Non-Cruise Passengers, and International Embarkation/ Disembarkation Cards for Cruise Passengers.

At your ceremony (even if you’re eloping) you will also need to have two witnesses, a Non-Residents Marriage License, and a letter from the authorized Marriage Officer who will be officiating your nuptials.

Not sure where to get these onisland documents?

Couples can obtain non-resident marriage licenses and a list of licensed Marriage Officers from the Passport and Corporate Services Office or on Cayman’s Sister Islands from the District Commissioner’s Office.

Ultimately, we hope this Destination Wedding Guide for The Cayman Islands helps you jumpstart your wedding planning journey.

I DO! Remembering the Marriage After the Wedding

From the moment you saw your very first wedding, you created images of you and your beloved dancing and swirling around in each other’s arms while swarms of family and friends gathered around you watching with love and joy flowing from their hearts. You’ve already imagined the kiss, the rings, the first dance, the cake, the bouquet toss and knew one day, your wedding day dreams would come true.

Alas, this magazine is in your hands because you can’t help but see other people living out their wedding day dreams; but let me share some insight with you about why you have gathered everyone for your big day. While the dress, the tuxedo, the cake, the music, and the colors are beautiful, remembering “why you’re getting married” should always be at the heart of your planning.

If you thought wedding planning was a lot of work, hold on to your seats because the ceremony was light work compared to the work you will put into your marriage. If you noticed, I didn’t say hard work; I simply said work. Marriage requires daily attention and intentional quality time for it to be thriving all the time.

There will be good days and great days, just like there will be hard days, but I’d like to share three pieces of advice to help you remember how to keep your love on top after your wedding day. I call them the TLC of marriage, “Time, Love, and Compassion.”

Time

During wedding planning, you are consumed with ceremony details. Now that you’re married, you need to fill that space with time for your marriage. This can be spent on dating, dinner at home, or deciding to unplug from your devices and the world around you and only concentrate on yourselves on the couch at home. The shared activity doesn’t have to be deep, it just needs to be intentional.

Love

Love is kept alive when you are constantly fueling your marriage with words of affirmation and inspiration. You not only marry your best friend, but you love how they make you feel. Keep your love alive by expressing it daily through small gestures and meaningful words. Show your appreciation, say "I love you" often, and make time for romantic moments.

Compassion

Marriage is not always easy, and there will be times when you or your partner may need extra compassion. It's important to remember that even in the toughest of times, you are a team and should support each other with understanding and empathy. Practice active listening, communicate openly and honestly, and show kindness towards one another.

Remember that marriage is an ongoing journey and requires effort from both partners to keep the flame burning.

There are more buzzwords to keep your marriage a priority after the wedding, but I can assure you, the “TLC of Marriage” will always keep your love on top even after the wedding day.

Celebrating 30 Years of Love, Legacy, and Island Elegance with Joanne Brown, Celebrations Weddings Grand Cayman

In the heart of the Caribbean, where crystal blue waters meet powdery white sands, Celebrations Weddings Grand Cayman has been crafting dream weddings for three decades.

Joanne Brown, the founder and creative visionary behind Celebrations, has led the company with a passion for creating unforgettable experiences. As Celebrations marks its 30th anniversary, Joanne reflects on the journey, milestones, and legacy of elegance and excellence that defines Celebrations Weddings Grand Cayman.

Congratulations on Celebrations Weddings Grand Cayman's 30th anniversary! What inspired you to start this journey, and how does it feel to reach this milestone?

You know, I've always had this knack for throwing awesome parties and getting creative with decorations, whether it was a birthday bash, a surprise soirée, or going all out for Christmas, even with limited island resources!

Honestly, I never imagined we'd come this far. It's just so surreal knowing we've had the chance to spread joy and create unforgettable memories for folks from all

over the world. Feeling incredibly blessed and grateful for the journey.

Over the past three decades, Celebrations has evolved into a renowned events company. Can you share some memorable moments or milestones that have defined this remarkable journey?

One of our proudest achievements was orchestrating all the productions and designs for the Cayman Islands' Quincentennial celebration, marking 500 years since its discovery. This year-long event, from May 2003 to 2004, included memorable occasions such as His Royal Highness Prince Edward's visit, which was a significant highlight of the festivities.

In 2005, we were honored to have the Travel Network produce a captivating six-hour series showcasing the inner workings of our company—a testament to our dedication and expertise in the field.

Additionally, our involvement in the event production for the opening of Owen Roberts Airport in 2019, graced by His Majesty King Charles and Queen Camilla, stands as a highlight. We were particularly honored when King Charles himself commended the impeccable execution of the production.

On the wedding front, one of our standout

events was the nuptials of superstar baseball player Jimmy and Jahari back in 2010, a testament to our ability to deliver unforgettable experiences for couples from all walks of life.

Another notable moment was collaborating with The Knot on a one-hour show in 2007, featuring a multicultural wedding set in the picturesque backdrop of Little Cayman. Working alongside The Knot's Founder, Carley Roney, was an unforgettable experience that underscored our commitment to excellence.

Celebrations prides itself on bringing happiness to clients and creating unforgettable memories. Could you elaborate on the unique approach or philosophy that sets Celebrations apart in the wedding and events industry?

At Celebrations, our philosophy goes beyond mere coordination—it's about infusing every event with profound meaning and significance. For us, this isn't just a job; it's a calling, a passion that ignites our spirits and fuels our creativity. While the journey may be filled with challenges, it's our unwavering commitment and enthusiasm that propels us forward, ensuring that each event we create is not just beautiful, but truly impactful. We pour

our hearts into every detail, striving to exceed expectations and leave a lasting impression on our client's lives—many of whom, through shared experiences and genuine connections, evolve into cherished friends.

From a one-person operation to a team of multilingual planners, floral artists, and designers from around the world, how has Celebrations maintained its personalized touch while expanding its reach?

For me, authenticity has been key. It's about staying true to our roots and the essence of what we've built. I've always believed in the power of genuine connections and sharing joy with others. Starting small, just me, I never imagined where this journey would take me. That pivotal moment when someone recognized and entrusted me with their daughter's wedding was transformative. It sparked the realization that I could turn my passion into something more. These core values are ingrained in our team culture. We're united in our dedication to delivering world-class events, drawing on talent from across the globe to ensure every celebration is of the highest caliber.

Grand Cayman is a stunning backdrop for weddings and events. How does the island's beauty influence the design and planning process at Celebrations?

At Celebrations, our approach begins with listening intently to our clients' desires. Once we've gained a deeper understanding of their vision, we draw

upon our extensive knowledge of the island, seamlessly weaving in elements that resonate with their dreams. Our commitment extends beyond just design and planning; we prioritize making the entire process effortless and efficient for our clients. While maintaining a professional and prompt response, we infuse every interaction with genuine care and kindness. For us, it's about more than just executing a flawless event—it's about creating an experience that leaves our clients feeling valued and cherished.

Celebrations has worked with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. How does the team incorporate cultural elements into weddings and events to ensure a meaningful and authentic experience for each couple?

It's a challenge we eagerly embrace and thrive on. We dive deep into research, taking the time to understand every aspect of our clients' backgrounds and their families' wishes for their special day. We believe it's those personalized touches that truly elevate the experience, making it not only special but also deeply memorable. By incorporating these cultural elements thoughtfully, we ensure that each

wedding or event reflects the unique essence and traditions of the couple, creating an unforgettable celebration.

In the ever-evolving world of weddings and events, what trends do you anticipate shaping the industry in the next decade, and how is Celebrations preparing to stay ahead of the curve?

I feel that the trends that will be strong will lean towards simplicity, yet elegant, and we are seeing a huge surge in flowers, which I feel has sprung from two things; we had no flowers during the COVID era, and people missed it, and the realization of how much fresh flowers play into sustainability and the entire eco-consciousness of the world. It is becoming so much more prominent, it's all over social media and being embraced... therefore, from grandiose weddings to intimate elopements and unconventional curated celebrations, Celebrations is dedicated to catering to the diverse needs and preferences of our clients. We understand the importance of flexibility and personalized experiences in creating memorable occasions.

Sustainability and eco-consciousness are increasingly important in event planning. How does Celebrations integrate sustainable practices into its operations and event designs?

Joanne Brown: At Celebrations, sustainability is ingrained in our ethos, not just a passing trend. We choose reusable rental items such as containers and vases to reduce waste and ensure durability. Whenever feasible, we incorporate biodegradable components into our designs, harmonizing beauty with ecoconsciousness. In our newest initiative, we've teamed up with a local company to collect used flowers from events, transforming them into compost. This completes the circle of waste management, aligning with our commitment to environmental responsibility. Our dedication to sustainability ensures every event is not just memorable, but also environmentally responsible.

28 NO. 31 | FEBRUARY 2024 INTERVIEW

DESTINATIONS MUNALUCHI BRIDE 33
Our beautiful cover couple, Tiffany Pennywell Brown and Brett Brown (affectionately called “The Browns”), first met and fell in love on season 4 of the hit Netflix show: Love Is Blind.

On the show, fans fell in love with the couple’s playful banter, realness, and maturity in navigating the Love is Blind process.

If you haven’t watched the series, a little background: Love Is Blind is a unique social experiment that sets out to answer the age-old question: Is love truly blind?

Over 38 days, a group of singles are challenged to find love and develop genuine emotional connections without physical attraction involved. Talking in “the pods,” couples chat through a literal wall for 10 days (going on only about 20 dates) to get to know each other.

Once they determine they’ve found “the one,” an accepted marriage proposal is the only way to see their partner in real life, date them, and eventually walk down the aisle to hopefully say yes to forever.

As an outsider looking in, the entire process seems pretty stressful. Finding everlasting love on TV feels far-fetched, to say the least. Even Tiffany and Brett had reservations about going on the show.

Tiffany shares, “To be honest, I was very scared about going on TV and taking that chance of trying to find love. Plus, I didn't know what people's intentions were with going on the show. I knew what mine was, but you don't know about other people.”

Brett echoed her fears: “I did not think I would find a life partner on TV. I mean, I was optimistic going into it. I knew there was a possibility, but did I think that it would actually happen? Absolutely not, but I’m glad I did.”

Despite people’s doubts, throughout the show’s 6 seasons, couples like Tiffany and Brett have found true love in the pods. And watching their individual love story unfold felt real.

Tiffany recalls, “In the pods, I would say my first impression of Brett was that he was very career-focused, a little reserved, but you can tell he was kind. He was very thoughtful. He was very well-spoken.”

Brett first fell in love with Tiffany’s voice.

“She has an absolutely amazing voice that I think was tailor-made to be heard through a speaker in that kind of experience,” he shares. “But outside of that, I picked up on her kindness, her sense of nurturing, and her maturity.”

Following Brett’s proposal, when they first met in person, everything just clicked.

“Seeing her in person was seeing all those things I picked up on in the pods in a beautiful package. It was just up from there,” Brett says, smiling.

Tiffany was equally smitten and pleasantly surprised by just how attracted she was to her fiancé.

“Brett is who I thought he was going to be,” Tiffany shares. “I was

able to put a face with the voice. And Brett is just very put together. You can tell he’s confident. I wasn't expecting all of the physical stuff that comes with Brett. He has a great body, but that's not what was important. It was his personality that drew me in. And everything else was icing on the cake.”

The couple, who are now going on 2 years of marriage since they wed in May 2022 (before their wedding episode officially aired on Netflix in April 2023), have undoubtedly proved it was real love all along.

Looking back on their journey together, the couple agrees that they do believe “love is blind.” At least, it can be – it certainly was for them!

“It was a lot of stars aligning,” Brett admits. “And I think that we would not have met any other way, considering we lived in two different cities. But yes, I believe that love can be blind.”

Tiffany adds, “I will say love can be blind, but I think you just have to have your experience out there in the dating world and realize that looks aren't everything. I went into this situation looking for more than just how somebody looked. I was looking for how they treated me, how they made me feel. And if you are in that mind state, then yes, love can be blind.”

Today, living together in Portland, Washington, their love continues to grow and flourish off-camera every day.

As we celebrate this month of love and the newest season of Love Is Blind which dropped on Valentine’s Day (Season 6 is now available to watch on Netflix!), we invite you to get to know the Browns on a deeper level.

In this exclusive interview, Tiffany and Brett reflect on their Love Is Blind experience, what they’ve been up to since saying “I Do,” and their plans for the future.

The wanderlust couple (who are known for their love of travel!) joined MunaLuchi in the Cayman Islands last year for an exclusive editorial shoot captured by Muna Coterie Member, Stanlo Photography.

Posing before gorgeous Caribbean backdrops on the grounds of Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park in stylish looks curated by Dasha Jackson of The Bridal Bunny and Genese Legere of Garçon Couture, Tiffany and Brett’s love is on full display.

We can’t wait to see where they’ll be jet-setting to next. Keep reading below for our exclusive Q&A with The Browns and images from their stunning styled shoot in the Cayman Islands.

Going back to the pods, was there a specific moment when you knew you found the one?

Brett: For me, I wouldn't say it was a specific moment. I think it was really understanding how I felt when I was out of the pods. In the moment, I think it's pretty easy to get caught up in conversations, but I was aware of how I was feeling.

Am I thinking about her when I wake up? Am I thinking about her when I go to sleep? How do I feel when I leave the pods? Is she taking up a lot of brain space when we're outside of the pods? And the answer to all of those was yes.

And then I feel like there was just a lot of alignment on our values, morals, etc. So it really wasn't a specific aha moment. It was more like it just added up. It just made sense.

Tiffany: I have to say the same thing. It wasn't a specific conversation, but I really was digging into Brett's background, and his previous behaviors, because I wanted to determine how he would treat me once we got outside of the pods. One thing I've always said is I wanted a partner that makes me feel safe, comfortable, and secure. And that is one thing that I kept circling back to every time we would go to bed at night.

It's like, how does this man make me feel? What was our ease in communicating with each other? Do I feel like I can be completely vulnerable with him and not feel judged, in a way? Does he validate me? Can I be my most authentic self and he still appreciates the person that I am?

So those were the things that I looked for over time, and I was like, "Yes, this is the person that I want in my life."

When you left the pods, when did the physical connection align with the emotional one you had established in the pods?

Tiffany: Instantly. I saw Brett and I was like, "Yes, that’s it" ... I don't think I had a type, but he's just a very handsome man. I can't see anyone not being physically attracted to Brett once they first see him. I had to give you your props, babe. He's so handsome.

Brett: Same for me. It was almost immediately. If I'm thinking about physical connection and I'm thinking about the reveal, for example, it was like a big sigh of relief. There was not a lot of, "I don't know, is she this" ... It was like, "No, no, she's a stunning woman." And then once we got to Mexico and spent time together, it was like, "Okay, yeah, this is it."

Tiffany: Can I just also add that I always ... even during our reveal, I was so happy with the way he held me and how comfortable it was even just kissing him. So that's why it was instantaneous for me, because I was like, "This just fits."

Fast forward to your wedding day, were you nervous that maybe you weren't on the same page?

Tiffany: I wasn't. We had talked a lot about our wedding and we were making all the right steps to make sure our closest loved ones flew in from out of town to be there to celebrate our union. So, I would've been absolutely blindsided if Brett said no.

Brett: Same for me. I wasn't nervous at all, just because we were very transparent and open with each other about how we felt. So, I know on the show it's about will they say I do or I don't. But for us, it was like, no, this is a wedding. We're not bringing people here with a question mark. This is a wedding. Come see us say yes to each other.

How did you feel when you both said yes?

Tiffany: Just elated, that's the only thing I can think of. It was just everything leading up to this point, and I know it is a very rushed process, but it's just knowing that we both had so much love for each other and we took that chance on one another because we truly believed that we were each other's partner.

Brett: I echo that. I felt like it was, I wouldn't say relief, but just again, just confirmation, validation, celebration. It was just a good feeling. It was a really good feeling knowing that you came in here, kind of

optimistic and you fast-forward seven weeks and you’re saying, "I do." How wild of a story is that?

What was your favorite wedding day memory?

Brett: Man, it's hard for me to think about my wedding day and not have the infamous pants fiasco… But that's definitely a memory. It wasn't my favorite memory, but a memorable one. But I would say for me, I believe it was after Tiffany said her vows, I don't know if it was thunder or it started raining–

Tiffany: It poured down.

Brett: – It started pouring down rain. And I remember seeing her reaction and there was some reaction in the crowd. At the time, I didn't know the significance of that, that it was a sign of good luck. So when I figured that out, I was like, oh, wow. Okay, this is something special.

Tiffany: Yeah, that actually was my favorite memory. Our wedding officiant was a family friend who truly made our wedding a celebration, and with us just saying our vows to one another, I've always looked for signs, and just the fact that it started pouring down rain, the beautiful backdrop behind us and looking at all of our friends and family and how it even brought some people to tears… that was my favorite moment.

Even though you already said I do on the show, do you think you'll have another wedding celebration one day? What would your dream wedding look like?

Tiffany: I absolutely want another wedding celebration. I want to make sure that all of my friends and family have enough time to be there to celebrate Brett and me. My dream wedding, I've always wanted a destination wedding. I love being by the water and having something that Brett and I just have time to put our special touch on. With the show, it moves quickly. So you're just making decisions on the fly, but to be thoughtful about this celebration the next time around would be so important for me.

Brett: Yes, absolutely. I would want to do another wedding celebration. One, just to invite all the people that we couldn't just because of logistics and everything, and just how fast everything happens. I think naturally, some people just can't come from across the country or financially afford a flight and hotel on such a fast turnaround. So absolutely, that's one angle. The other angle is really just to go through the real wedding planning process and go over every detail, really pick the perfect venue that fits both of us. I would not do it outdoors again unless it was in the summertime. Also, the reception and being able to play all the music that we like.

Would you incorporate any cultural elements or special details?

Tiffany: No cultural elements that I can think of at this time. But I do want to make sure that all of our loved ones that we've lost are somewhat incorporated into our wedding. Whether it just be at the front as we welcome everybody in, pictures of them. There are just so many people who have been a part of our lives that we wish could have been there. Also, I want a live band.

Brett: Yeah, [we] have some friends that sing and it'd be cool to have some people do live singing and stuff like that.

"[I love] Tiffany's sense of nurturing. Her ability to connect with people, her maturity, her understanding. I feel very supported by her, and she's like that rock that I need, even though I'm very self-assured. Sometimes you just need that person in your corner that's like, 'Babe, you got this.'" - Brett

Tiffany: Oh my gosh. I'd write a song and sing it to Brett.

Brett: There we go. There we go. There we go.

Any designers you would love to wear or vendors you would like to work with?

Tiffany: That is one thing I wish I could do again, I would love a beautiful wedding dress. I had limited options while I was on the show, so some of the designers would be...I believe Hanifa just released this beautiful bridal collection. I love some of those dresses. And [a] designer called Galia Lahav. I want a dress that has a lot of drama, class, and sophistication.

Brett: For me, I want a Tom Ford suit. Get me a tailoredTiffany: I knew he was going to say that.

Brett: ... Tom Ford. I mean, really. I'd say that's pretty much it. I'm not really that familiar with vendors when it comes to wedding planning and whatnot, but for me, I would be doubled down on the suit. I’m a big Tom Ford fan.

With the Love is Blind process being so fast-paced, it's almost like you're dating backward now. How has married life been post-show? Walk us through a typical day in the life of the Browns.

Tiffany: We're actually a very normal couple. I mean, waking up, I am the early bird in the household, so I'm usually journaling and going for a walk. Sometimes I'm back before Brett gets up. And it's work throughout the day, then I come home. I typically am cooking, although Brett does cook on some days as well, but I'm typically making dinner. If I am not feeling it, we'll go out to eat and then we'll wrap up the evening. Brett usually goes to the gym too after work, and then, yeah, we may just chill, watch TV, watch a movie, or if I pass out early, Brett is playing his video games.

Brett: Yeah, I mean, we’re very, very normal. She's always up before I am and always asleep before I am.

Have you discovered any quirks about each other that you're not so keen on? Or any new things that have made you fall in love even more.

Tiffany: Very minor things. I think a lot of things that Brett does, it's cute. I love when Brett is thinking really hard about something and he starts twirling this little curl in the front of his head.

Things that have made me fall in love with Brett more, I would say is I love watching him sleep. I love giving him kisses early in the morning. Just seeing him in this completely relaxed state, it's just my favorite.

Brett: For me, something that I've noticed that's fun, is that Tiffany has no nerves. She is the easiest person on the planet to scare, and I actually have a lot of fun surprising her... She's so bad, like we could be sitting on the couch and she goes to start making dinner, and I come up behind her and she jumps. And she knows I'm in the room.

Tiffany: But he just likes to sneak up on me like very quietly.

Brett: Yeah. Only because she's so easy to scare. So I have a lot of fun with that. Just the other day, I came in and I could hear her singing. And I'm like, "Okay, she probably has her headphones on, she probably didn't hear me coming in." So I just kind of stood there, just kind of watched her for a minute until she turned her head and noticed me. And then once she did, she just jumped and was like, "Brett!" I'm like, "What are you talking about? All I did was stand there." But it's actually something I really like about her, it's fun.

What qualities do you love most about each other?

Tiffany: I love Brett's confidence and determination. He's very self-assured and I am someone who always doubts myself, so having someone who is quite the opposite, is almost like a motivator. Even when he's not telling me something directly, it's just by his actions. I love that about Brett.

He's consistent. He's thoughtful. He is very articulate and well-spoken, and when you ask Brett a question, he truly thinks through what he's trying to say versus just filling the air with words. I really appreciate that about him.

Brett: For me, it's Tiffany's sense of nurturing. Her ability to connect with people, her maturity, her understanding. I feel very supported by her, and she's like that rock that I need, even though I'm very selfassured. Sometimes you just need that person in your corner that's like, "Babe, you got this."

What are your favorite activities to do together?

Tiffany: I love traveling with Brett. The reason why is because whenever I travel, there's certain things that I have to see or do when I travel, and I need people to be along for the ride. Brett is kind of like always down. Brett is always down to go anywhere and do anything. And another activity we like to do is photography. Brett's more of the professional at that, but I love seeing the world through Brett's eyes when he photographs things. How he frames it. Maybe like what he's taking a snapshot of and what he thinks it's communicating. Just being able to tap into somebody's creativity through photography, I love learning that with him.

Brett: I'd say travel, for sure. Before Tiffany, I feel like I did a lot of solo traveling, which was fun, and I think it's something everybody should be comfortable doing, but definitely, there were times where I would be places and was like, "Man, actually it'd be really good to experience this with somebody."

Tiffany's done a lot of traveling on her own before me, and I think we both have a passion for new experiences, cultures, and food, and being uncomfortable or being in new places that we haven't been to before. She's the perfect travel partner.

Still lots of traveling to do, places we've been planning on going to next year for sure. I'm hoping to have our travel calendar, just do some more international stuff. We've done a lot of traveling here in the States and Mexico, but we haven't flown over the ocean just yet together, so we got to make that happen pretty soon.

How do you navigate work-life balance and make time for each other?

Tiffany: I actually have more flexibility just with my work and being able to work from home. So I'm always here before Brett has to go into the office and when he comes back home. It's all about prioritizing each other. I am someone who likes to keep things new and fresh, and I need a partner who is okay with a little spontaneity.

So if I feel like we're getting into a rut, I make it a point to at least say, "Hey, babe, we need a date night. Let's explore something new in the city." Or just completely surprising Brett, be like, "Hey, just be ready at 6:00 or whatever." But yeah, I think it's just prioritizing each other and knowing that your relationship, at least for me, should come before your job.

Brett: My time nowadays is a little more full with work stuff, so definitely, like between work and then other things with like grant partnerships and things, I definitely have to make sure that I'm not getting so pulled into things or things that aren't my marriage, and devoting all of my time to those things. Because I can kind of zone out and really get in my element and want to keep working, but I got to have my priority straight and have to say, "Hey, actually no, I'm not going to do this tonight. I need to be a husband for a change." And

like Tiffany said, she kind of plans things as well. So it's something that I have to be more conscious of how I'm using my time, just because I still work full-time. But I'm a husband before all of that.

Brett, on the show you always sported the coolest sneakers. Would you ever design a shoe collection inspired by Tiffany?

Brett: Interesting question because what I do now isn't technically designing shoes. I'm in a very different space professionally, although I did do shoe design at one point in my career. However, I would love to design something for Tiffany. It would be something only for Tiffany, not something sold in stores. It would be a one-of-one. Her knowledge and appreciation for sneakers have grown since we've been together. Before she was kind of like, "I don't know, babe, the sneakers, should I wear sneakers with this?" And I'm like, "Babe, yes. It doesn't take your outfit down. It elevates it." So I would love to design a sneaker for her.

As far as what color, fabric, details? Oh, man. I could go down a rabbit hole with that, so I don't know. I'd have to do my research. I'd say it would be something elegant. I'd probably stick to leather, maybe do some H Town colors.

Comfort would definitely be a must because a lot of times when she doesn't wear sneakers, she's like, "I want to be comfortable." As much as I love seeing her in heels and whatnot, I know that it's probably not the most comfortable thing to walk around in. So just trying to mix elegance with some street style.

Who's your favorite couple on Love Is Blind since your season?

Tiffany: We're going to go with the OGs: Lauren and Cameron. The reason why I say Lauren and Cameron is Lauren has such an amazing personality and I feel like it's very similar to mine. She seems very outgoing and personable. Pretty funny too, and I love seeing her interactions with Cameron. I felt like they really balanced each other out, and there were qualities that I think I see in Cameron, that I see in Brett. You don't have to always be identical. Sometimes you just need somebody who compliments you and balances you out.

Brett: Yeah, I'd say the same. The OGs. I think they just had a level of... Tiffany: Maturity?

Brett: Yeah, maturity, drama-free. Seemed like they knew what they wanted, great communication between the two.

Tiffany: Seemed like they respected one another.

Brett: Just a great story from beginning to end. They would have to take the crown for me.

Thank you, Tiffany and Brett, for participating in this exclusive MunaLuchi interview! Your Love Is Blind journey has inspired us all to look beyond the surface… and in the modern dating world where “swiping” takes precedence, singles searching for love should take note. What really matters is how someone makes you feel. “Everything else [is] just icing on the cake,” Tiffany shares. We wish you both many more years of wedded bliss, happiness, and adventures together.

HOW THEY MET: In Pendleton, Indiana, Tunji kicked off his IT consulting career with his very first client. Little did we know that this professional venture would be the beginning of our love story.

As the project unfolded, Tunji made it his mission to cultivate a connection with me. Breakfast surprises and thoughtful messages became our ways of expressing unspoken emotions. Unfortunately, things never progressed. Fast forward two-plus years and destiny smiled upon us.

Tunji, with unwavering determination, flew to Dallas, TX, where our shared weekend became a pivotal chapter of understanding and admiration. With the depth of our connection, we decided to take a chance and embrace the challenges of a long-distance relationship. When Tunji asked me to be his girlfriend, my response was a heartfelt, "Of course!"

PROPOSAL STORY: In May 2022, Mercy organized a birthday trip to Mexico unaware of Tunji's hidden plan. Knowing Mercy’s special skills for unraveling surprises, Tunji orchestrated the perfect proposal in the most unexpected location—amidst the vastness of the ocean, aboard a private boat. This was an extra layer of surprise as Tunji popped the question that would begin their future.

FIRST DATE : On our first official date, we visited Lucas Oil Stadium in Indiana, where we toured the arena. It was on our first date we felt sparks, our mutual love for family, and Tunji’s love for sports. We talked all night about everything. It was the perfect date!

ENGAGEMENT SESSION THEME: We wanted our engagement shoot to tell our love story and the beautiful union we created. The elegance

of the color black represents how we are striving for excellence not just as individuals and in our careers but in our commitment to each other.

To pay homage to our Nigerian heritage, we decided to wear each other’s culturally significant garments. (Mercy is embracing Tunji’s Yoruba heritage and Tunji is embracing Mercy’s Igbo heritage.)

FAVORITE THING TO DO AS A COUPLE: Sounds very basic but we get very excited when we plan a movie night.

HOW HAS WEDDING PLANNING BEEN SO FAR? It has been a journey. We originally planned to get married sooner, however we welcomed the milestone opportunity to buy our first home together. Even though we were eager to get back to planning our big day and making it true to who we are as individuals. Although wedding planning has its ups and downs, we are elated that each guest celebrating with us can experience our gratitude for their presence as they witness our love for one another.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST? We are looking forward to bringing everyone together to celebrate our union and experience it through OUR culture.

HOW THEY MET: We met on Hinge right in the middle of the pandemic. The funny part was right after he asked me out and our first date was scheduled, he told me he had Covid. I was like, “Sureee you have Covid. How convenient.” We laugh about it now, but 6 months later he told me, he only took a Covid test to be safe for our first date. He was so shocked he tested positive with no symptoms and was bummed we had to wait the full 14 days of quarantine. The second he was negative he sent me a picture of his results, and our date was back on.

PROPOSAL STORY: “It’s going to be after I graduate.” That was the only thing I knew from David about him proposing.

On June 16th, 2023, David was graduating from UCLA with his MBA and I was in proud girlfriend mode all day. His family was in town from Texas, and his Morehouse guys were here from Atlanta for his big day.

Literally an hour after his graduation and an “unusually quiet” drive back to his apartment, we started walking to the rooftop of his apartment building. It’s actually a helipad with stunning views of downtown LA, but I didn’t think anything of it because we went up there all the time. Plus, we were having a graduation party for him that night, so I figured everyone’s probably up there enjoying the Cali sunset. I didn’t know, but the ring was in his pocket the entire graduation.

As we walked up the stairs, he started to say, “I thought it would be the perfect time...” That’s when I saw flowers, candles, and his friends capturing the moment. I happily said yes, and right as I was hugging him I saw my mom, dad, brother, and all my girlfriends pop out from different corners. I couldn’t believe he turned his day into “our day”. The whole moment was magical.

FIRST DATE : Our first date was at the mall. It was right in the middle of the pandemic, so options were really limited. We walked around, played tic tac toe on his cell phone with a truth or dare twist, and had ice cream before dinner.

The best part was when he asked me to take a drive with him (again because nothing was open), and we drove around the city listening to music. He reached over to grab my hand in the car, and I literally felt a spark. The night ended with the best first kiss and the beginning of our lives.

FAVORITE THING TO DO AS A COUPLE:

Our favorite thing to do as a couple is to listen to music and dance. We share a great love of music together.

ENGAGEMENT SESSION THEME:

The vision for our engagement session was to capture our favorite LA aesthetics, classic elegance, and iconic beaches. Since LA is the

backdrop of our love story, it was only fitting we combined both of these elements in our dream shoot. Japhet, our photographer, is a master at capturing Black love, so with his lens and our vision, we knew we would cherish these photos for a lifetime.

HOW HAS WEDDING PLANNING BEEN SO FAR? Honestly, our faith is carrying us through the process. The hardest part was securing the venue, but once we tackled that everything felt so much smoother. I couldn’t imagine doing this without our family and a wedding planner. It really takes a team.

TELL U WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST:

David: “I can't wait to steal her away amidst all of the wedding festivities, but seeing each other for the first time when she walks down the aisle is the moment I think about most.”

Korina: “That aisle moment for sure, but also dancing all night surrounded by the beautiful people in our lives will be unforgettable.”

Nyyah +Branden

CATOR WOOLFORD GARDENS, ATLANTA, GA PHOTOGRAPHED BY ALE WEDDINGS

WEDDING DATE: April 20, 2024

WEDDING LOCATION: Ashton Gardens, Atlanta, GA

OCCUPATIONS: Nyyah is a Sr. Account Manager and Brenden is a Sr. Consultant

HOW THEY MET: In the digital age, where swipes and clicks often lead to fleeting connections, our love story stands out as a testament to serendipity and enduring affection. Our journey began on the dating app Hinge, a platform designed to be deleted, and ironically, it was this very act of deletion that marked the first twist in our tale.

From our very first conversation, it was evident that we shared an inexplicable bond. Our chats were filled with laughter, deep conversations, and an unmistakable sense of connection. However, in a moment of introspection, I decided to step back from the digital world to focus on personal growth. I deleted the app,

severing the thread of communication with Branden. Yet, as the weeks passed, his memory lingered, a persistent whisper in the back of my mind, urging me to take a leap of faith.

Driven by a sense of unfinished business and a heart full of hope, I re-downloaded Hinge. The serendipity of life, with its unpredictable twists, presented itself when I reconnected with Branden on a day of celebration and fate—his birthday, July 4th, 2021. This remarkable coincidence was not lost on us; it felt like the universe's way of affirming our connection. From that day forward, we were inseparable, our bond deepening with each shared moment, laughter, and dream.

MUNALUCHI BRIDE 63

PROPOSAL STORY: Our love story took a cinematic turn on July 4th, 2022, exactly one year after our reconnection. Branden chose an extraordinary setting for his proposal: a nest in the Tulum sky at the Kin Toh restaurant, a place where nature meets luxury, suspended above the Mayan jungle.

This unique location reflected the heights to which our love had soared and the depth of our commitment to each other. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the sky, Branden asked me to be his partner for life. It was a moment of pure magic, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of Tulum, marking the beginning of our forever.

FIRST DATE : Our first date at the soft launch of Serena Pastificio in Atlanta was unforgettable. Branden chose this elegant Italian spot, where the inviting ambiance and exquisite cuisine set the stage for our budding romance. As we indulged in delicious dishes and engaging conversation, I felt a spark between us ignite. That evening wasn't just about the food; it was the beginning of our journey together, marked by laughter, connection, and the promise of many more moments like this.

FAVORITE THING TO DO AS A COUPLE: Our favorite activity would have to be our all-day dates. They typically start with a fun activity such as exploring the Belt Line in Atlanta and features detours such as stopping off for wine tasting, lunch, and ending the date with a trip to Jenni's Ice Cream.

HOW HAS WEDDING PLANNING BEEN SO FAR? Wedding planning has been an experience. It has its twists and turns, but overall, we are savoring this moment and making lasting memories together while doing so. We have an amazing vendor team and we can't wait to see how they execute our special day.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ON THE WEDDING DAY? We are looking forward to committing ourselves to one another before God and our closest friends and loved ones. We cannot wait to share this day of love and joy with our family and friends and dance the night away.

CAGDAS YOLDAS
MODESTO, CA | JUNE 30 -JULY 1, 2023 SIDTIA PHOTOGRAPHED BY JAO PHOTOGRAPHY + RAYMOND

Ray and Sidtia's love story begins in high school.

“Ray played for the basketball team at Modesto Christian and our high schools played each other,” Sidtia recalls. “Some of my friends from Ripon High knew Ray and we met at a friend's house.”

That first interaction was just the first of many for these two. Love blossomed between them and when the timing was right, Ray planned the perfect surprise for his soon-to-be fiancée.

Disguised as a birthday party for Sidtia’s older cousin, the entire family was in on the secret! When Sidtia least expected it, they changed the photo backdrop from “Happy Birthday” to “Will You Marry Me?” and Ray popped the question. The “birthday” party then turned into a fabulous engagement party with their friends and family.

“There was a live singer and everything,” Sidtia shares. “It was beautiful.”

On June 30th and July 1st, 2023, the couple tied the knot in a two-day wedding celebration in California. Starting with a Cambodian ceremony honoring Sidtia’s heritage, they had a 4-part ceremony including a Ring Exchange, Hair Cutting, Tie the Knot, and Honor the Parents at her parent's home in Modesto, California. This event consisted of four outfit changes for the couple, Cambodian food, and a groom procession. A love ceremony and an all-white reception followed at the Grand Island Mansion on Saturday.

Of all the beautiful details, Ray and Sidtia’s favorite memory was walking down the aisle and sharing their vows. “It was everything I could have dreamed of and more,” Sidtia shares.

ALICE + DEREK

WOODBRIDGE, ON

AUGUST 4TH AND 5TH, 2023

Everything happens for a reason…

When Alice and Derek first met In 2017, they mutually agreed they were on independent journeys and not ready to date. Growing up only kilometers away from one another, you would think their paths would have crossed again; however, God’s divine timing was ticking.

It was not until the summer of 2019 that they finally bumped into each other at Derek’s cousin's house and planned their first date. Soon after, COVID-19 brought the world to a halt. The budding couple found solace in each other’s company and spent more intimate and intentional time together due to the shutdowns.

Alice shares, “Our love story has been nothing short of complex from the first day we met, but through it all God has been faithful. In the summer of 2022, Derek planned a surprise proposal in Vancouver B.C. with breathtaking views of the Rockies surrounded by our loved ones.”

After happily exclaiming, “Yes!” the couple soon began planning their wedding. Working with vendors from around the world, their elegant 2-day Ghanaian Traditional Wedding and Modern White Wedding came to life in Toronto Canada. Bursting with colorful purple details, the couple was very intentional with showcasing their shared Ghanaian culture (with new-age twists!).

84 NO. 31 | FEBRUARY 2024

Alice adds, “Our traditional wedding showcased the vibrancy of the Akan culture; family members adorned their bodies with complementing kente outfits, folklore stories told through adowa dancing, the immersive tastes of Ghana through local food and drinks, followed by a presentation and acceptance of the dowry for the bride… Guests left having experienced a traditional wedding with no limits!”

wedding highlights

Bridesmaids/groomsmen gifts: Each bridesmaid received a customized box from Sprazzles which included: a custom prayer candle, a Custom hanger, a Wine Tumblr, a personalized robe, a designer bracelet, and a Traditional bridal fan. Each item was hand-picked for the bridal party, representing their unique relationships with me. Each groomsman received a personalized hanger, Whisky canter, Cufflinks, and Authentic Ghanaian leather sandals with inscriptions from Derek.

First dance song: Derek and I’s love song has always been “Pretty Wings” by Maxwell. Thus, it was only befitting that we started this new life journey adorned by Maxwell.

Favorite item on the menu: Our favorite dishes had to be the authentic Ghanaian Jollof that was served at our Traditional wedding. Followed by the ever so famous Ghanaian dessert; bofrot.

86 NO. 31 | FEBRUARY 2024 WEDDINGS

Advice for brides: Weddings are a lot of work and can be taxing on a couple. Thus, it is imperative that you commit every single decision you make to God for approval and direction, or else you will find yourself lost, confused, and disapproved. Staying organized through spreadsheets will be your saving grace in keeping both yourself and your vendors accountable throughout the process. And lastly, DO NOT GIVE INTO THE HYPE. Many of us have dreamed of the day that certain fashion designers we have admired from afar would be the ones to bring your vision to life. However, if I have learned anything from this process, it is that the designers we hold in high esteem will not be the ones to bring tears of joy to your eyes. It will be the ones you did not expect. So do your research, look for honest reviews, and trust the underdog. You will be surprised by what they will do for you.

HALLI + STEVENCLAUDE

RUE DU CHÂTEAU, FRANCE

OCTOBER 8, 2023

PHOTOGRAPHED BY LAURA ZORMAN PHOTOGRAPHY

A decades-long friendship turned to love for Halli and StevenClaude.

The couple, who first met through the groom’s best friend from elementary school, would always hang out during their holiday breaks in college. Their steady foundation of friendship slowly evolved into something more and by July 2021, they officially started dating long-distance.

Long-distance dating wasn’t easy, but they tried to be creative with their dates. And one month, when it was StevenClaude’s turn to plan, he had something extra special in mind…

“He told me he had a surprise scavenger hunt planned for me one weekend,” Halli recalls. “The Monday before, he sent me a riddle that I used to figure out that he had actually booked me a surprise trip to California to go sailing on his aunt’s boat from LA to Catalina Island. I hopped on a plane Thursday night and we set sail on Friday.”

While sailing to Catalina, they stopped for lunch.

StevenClaude’s cousin broke out her guitar and began to play for them. On the third song, StevenClaude started singing lyrics from one of their favorite songs “I Love You 3000.” As he sang the words “And all my friends they tell me they see, You’re planning to get on one knee,” he then got down on one knee and proposed!

Halli admits, “I had no idea he was going to propose– even though I should have since he hired a photographer to go on the boat with us! We celebrated on the boat and had the most amazing weekend in Catalina.”

A wanderlust proposal called for an equally wanderlust wedding! The couple headed to the Rue du Château in France for their elegant and timeless nuptials. Highlights included a breathtaking daylight fireworks display to mark the end of their ceremony and a specially choreographed dance routine by StevenClaude for his beautiful bride. It was truly the wedding of their dreams!

AISHA + FRANCIS

QUEBEC CITY, CANADA

JULY 22ND, 2023

by

Asmile is worth a thousand words. At least that’s how the saying goes. But for Aisha, when she first met her future husband, Francis, his smile brought to mind one word only: love. “Francis's smile is contagious, and it’s infectious and it makes you feel safe and close to him immediately,” Aisha shares lovingly. “That’s what made me fall in love with him in the first two minutes we met, and it hasn’t changed since.”

After meeting online only one month before the COVID lockdown, the couple’s connection quickly grew into something much deeper. Despite the state of the world, love blossomed between them.

Post-Covid restrictions, the couple ventured to Positano, Italy, where Francis planned an intimate proposal at the Adamo ed Eva by Eden Roc restaurant overlooking the Amalfi coast. At dusk, Francis proposed with a gorgeous Tiffany engagement ring while a photographer waited incognito to capture all the details!

Their romantic fairy tale wedding in Quebec City, Canada, was a beautiful celebration of their union and culture. The Bride honored her Liberian roots with a traditional African Kola nut ceremony during their reception while the Groom paid tribute to his ancestors (one of whom was a workman who helped build Le Petit Seminaire–their wedding venue!) in 1675.

92 NO. 31 | FEBRUARY 2024

Aisha adds, “...We felt a deep connection to the venue. We loved the classic beauty of the all-white ballroom, its immaculate carved walls, and its French charm, which matched the vision of our wedding."

From a romantic ball gown to elegant decor and white florals, prepare to fall in love with Aisha and Francis’ beautiful wedding day.

Special highlights: We choose to let our mothers sign our wedding certificates. It was a beautiful moment and an opportunity to let them play a large role in the wedding ceremony, which mothers often don't get. They are our best friends so it was important for us as a way to show our appreciation for their love. We also loved sharing oysters during cocktail hour right after the wedding.

In honor of his dearly departed mother, Donovan proposed to Latoya on Mother’s Day with the most gorgeous solitaire engagement ring. Donovan shares, “I knew she was “the one” when every time we would meet we talked like we were old friends. I knew she was my soul mate.”

LEBRINA + WILL

STANLY

PHOTOGRAPHED

100 NO. 31 FEBRUARY 2024 JULY 15, 2023
BY TRAVIS DANIELS
RANCH IN NAPA VALLEY, CALIFORNIA

Former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback, William Jackson lll, married LeBrina Jackson at their boho chic wedding at Stanly Ranch in Napa Valley, California!

LeBrina and Will lived in the same neighborhood and were introduced through a mutual friend.

They knew each other were “the one” through learning their shared love and passion for horses, and the comfort and ease they have in their relationship. LeBrina shares, “Doing absolutely nothing in the house with one another always felt so exciting. I can't forget the love we both have for horses, it's rare when you meet someone who loves horses just as much as you do.”

LeBrina describes Will’s proposal as “truly magical.” To make sure LeBrina was dressed up how she would want to be, William told her they were going to a party at a country club. On their way, Will pretended to receive a call that they needed to come see their horses at the barn where they boarded them. When they opened the barn doors, LeBrina was struck to see flowers covering the aisle and all of their family and friends waiting to share the special moment with them.

On their wedding day, LeBrina’s custom wedding gown was showstopping! Covered in lace, pearls, and stones, with pearls cascading down the back, the dress made a statement while still being timeless, elegant, and unforgettable. Their wedding theme was modern with boho chic decor, featuring a horseshoe entrance, an array of white and blush florals, stunning custom chandeliers, and romantic details.

MONICA + DARIO

RIVERVALE, NJ

NOVEMBER 16, 2023

PHOTOGRAPHED BY ALICIA RINKA

After spotting each other from across the room at The Greatest Bar in Boston, Dario and Monica knew something was different. From their earliest conversation, Monica recalls: “It felt like we already knew each other.”

Going from strength to strength in their relationship, Dario popped the question on October 10, 2020, in a suite decorated with rose petals, flowers, and balloons at Encore Boston. After ecstatically saying yes, the bride-to-be went to work. And yes we mean that literally since Monica just so happens to be a wedding planner! So it was full steam ahead for the couple planning the wedding of a lifetime.

On November 16, 2023, Dario and Monica said their I Do’s during their formal ballroom ceremony in front of their closest friends and family at The Estate at Florentine Gardens. Surrounded by luxurious white roses and greenery which brought the magic of the garden indoors, the grandeur of their surroundings and decor could only be matched by a dress that was fit for a princess.

Monica wore a Martina Liana gown with cathedral skirting, a royal cathedral-length veil, and statement sleeves, looking every inch the glamorous bride. She was accompanied by her handsome groom Dario who chose to be outfitted in a custom tuxedo with black details that gave him a traditional yet modern look.

The couple shared their love story along with so many special moments from their ballroom wedding.

CONNIE+ CHIP

F or better or worse, love and loss are inexplicably intertwined in our lives. For Chip and Connie, their relationship was built on these two elements combined with compassion and unwavering understanding.

After finishing an Instagram live video on “Dreaming Big,” Chip decided to shoot his shot with his online crush, Connie Gilmore, and slid into her DMs. Little did he know, this first message would be the catalyst for their love story.

Their first date was at a restaurant called Woodmont Grill in Bethesda, Maryland, where Chip asked Connie countless questions (almost like an interrogation) and even filmed some of her responses! Thankfully, Connie found it all amusing, and Chip's passion for film and photography was inspiring. Reminiscing on their first date, Chip shares, “We had a great time and we found out that we enjoyed each other’s company.” Connie adds, “We saw each other the following day as well which was a good sign.”

From that day forward, their budding romance would be joyous, yet complicated, and steadily built through incredible understanding and compassion. Connie shares, “Nine years ago I became a widow, and to say the journey has been difficult is a grave understatement. Chip has been so supportive, so comforting, and understanding of the space I was in.”

Connie knew Chip was the one when he showed her how thoughtful and intentional he was about her. Chip knew Connie was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with when he was photographing a wedding overseas: “I missed her so much and I knew I couldn’t live one day without her in my life.”

Following Chip’s surprise Superbowl Sunday proposal in 2023, the couple officially tied the knot early this year on January 14th, 2024 at The Hotel at the University of Maryland. Their elegant and classy wedding featured white flowers and greenery with gold decor accents. Chip sported a bold red tux by Stanlion and Connie wore a beautiful custom off-the-shoulder gown by Ese Azenabor.

Seeing each other for the first time walking down the aisle was a moment they’ll cherish forever. Connie shares, “Tears were flowing and my heart was racing but locking eyes with him calmed me in a way I couldn’t explain.”

We wish the lovely couple eternal happiness and wedded bliss!

Advice for couples: Be flexible and be ready for the unexpected. There will be last-minute cancellations and people who can’t make your wedding and that’s ok and you probably will go over budget. Take it in and date, and don’t just focus on the wedding, but make sure you focus on the marriage and the relationship.

ALEXIS + KEVIN

MIAMI, FL

JANUARY 12, 2024

Text by Linda Wallentine

On May 29th, 2017, Kevin and Alexis's love story began while attending a mutual friend’s Memorial Day cookout. They met, played games, and flirted all night, but didn’t exchange numbers. Alexis (a self-proclaimed “Instagram Investigator”) got to sleuthing and found Kevin’s Instagram and sent him a friend request.

The couple, who are both members of Devine 9 (Alexis is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and Kevin is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.), would officially come together after Alexis saw an IG post that read “@ a que you will act right for.” After only one interaction, she confidently @ Kevin under the post. Catching his attention, Kevin messaged her on IG and they exchanged numbers. Soon after they started dating.

Four years later, Kevin planned an extravagant surprise proposal at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse with their friends and family. However, things didn’t go according to plan when Alexis and her friends got Covid. Determined to still propose, Kevin came up with a plan b.

On December 18, 2021, Kevin recalls, “I set up a picnic for us in the park isolated from everyone on Alexis' first day out of quarantine. I got Olive Garden to go with her favorite lunch, drinks, and dessert and told her I wanted her to get out of the house for fresh air. During the picnic, our parents and siblings arrived and I proposed. Alexis was shocked!”

The couple finally tied the knot on January 12th, 2024, in a modern Miami wedding designed by KeAira Chantell Events with enchanting green details and stylish attire. Special highlights included Alexis’s father and stepfather both walking her down the aisle and tributes to the couple’s shared Black Greek culture through strolling and mini-step performances throughout the night. Surrounded by loved ones, it was truly the wedding of their dreams!

Pink roses and chandeliers decorated this luxurious wedding in the Caribbean.

The stunning island of Puerto Rico was the dream destination setting for Kristen and Olamide’s outdoor nuptials which featured a gorgeous welcome reception for their family and friends and a romantic wedding dinner under the stars.

“For our welcome party, we asked each side of our family and friends to dress in aso ebi (clothes of the family), to honor Ola's Yoruba heritage,” Kristen explained.

To help them plan their unforgettable wedding day, the couple chose the Krizia Díaz Event Management Firm to design all the elements for the event. Fast forward to their outdoor ceremony overlooking the sea, the space featured light pink and white-hued florals that adorned the wedding arch and also lined the ceremony aisle. Guests were entertained by live string music as well which helped to set the intimate atmosphere. Special touches that made the day even more incredible were the luxurious chandeliers adorning the reception which cast their soft glow filling the evening with romance and the wedding cake which had nods to the bride’s sumptuously beaded gown with its detachable train and of the moment bridal gloves.

TONI + SHABOYD

LAKE GARDA, ITALY

OCTOBER 1, 2023

PHOTOGRAPHED BY STANLO PHOTOGRAPHY

“I knew she was the one five hours and one minute after our first date,” Shaboyd shares.

This seems like a bold statement, but it’s not too surprising since Shaboyd and his wife, Toni, shared a first date that was five hours long!

After the couple first met in the summer of 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia, the very next morning they had their first date which consisted of playing games like “Have you ever” and “21 questions.” The couple fell in love with each other's inquisitive zest for life and by September of 2021, they got engaged on the edge of a Ravello hillside along Italy’s Amalfi Coast.

The wanderlust pair savored their time in Italy so much that they decided to return for their October 2023 nuptials! Set against the backdrop of Lake Garda, Italy, Toni and Shaboyd exchanged vows at the stunning Marquee-Isola del Garda venue.

Describing their wedding theme as “Old-world romance,” Toni elaborates that “Black excellence

was a requisite” for their wedding day.

“The ladies wore floor-length gowns, and the gentlemen wore classic suits and tuxedos,” she shares. “The harpist, violinist, and cello players strung rhythms of Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, and Etta James during the Aperitif. At the reception, our Italian DJ set things off by playing everything from Lil Boosie to Caribbean soca.”

For their own looks, Toni chose to wear a gorgeous Esé Azénabor gown with a detachable Ball-skirt and bleeding crystals. Her favorite accessory was a handmade custom-fit veil created by Ms. Paula Wanita Nurse from Georgetown, Guyana. Shaboyd looked equally handsome in a classic Tuxedo by Tom Ford.

From their music to their venue and elevated attire, all of the details set the scene for an unforgettable evening of romance and celebration.

COURTNEY+ WISE

LAKE WALES, FL

AUGUST 19TH, 2023

PHOTOGRAPHED BY NATIV LENS

For centuries, artists have found inspiration (and love) from their muses. For photographer Wise and model Courtney, their love story began like this: Wise behind the lens and Courtney in front of it. It was only a matter of time before they too would fall in love…

Their story begins in October of 2018 when Courtney was asked to model for her friend's clothing line. The photo shoot turned out to be a photo walk where photographers, videographers, and models came together to create content. Wise was the last photographer to approach Courtney for a video.

After the event, they started following each other on Instagram, but it wasn’t until early January 2019 that they started messaging after Courtney slid into Wise’s DMs. In May, they organized their first photo shoot together in Tampa. Their chemistry was instant. Little did they know, it would be the first of many photo shoots to come.

When it came time to propose, Wise planned the perfect surprise – a photo shoot, of course! Disguised as a Warby Parker modeling session, Courtney had an intuitive inkling but never expected an actual proposal.

“I walked into a room filled with roses, a beautiful balloon and floral assortment, and a violinist,” Courtney gushes. “Wise was standing in the middle of a heart made of roses and behind him solid big letters that read “Marry Me”... Wise proposed and we hugged as I cried and turned around to the room filled with our family and friends.”

The couple tied the knot on August 19th, 2023, at the luxurious Bella Cosa Lakeside Wedding Venue in a beautiful, modern, Black Tie affair. They incorporated Wise’s Haitian culture into their cuisine and Kompa music during their first dance. Surrounded by loved ones all dressed in classy black attire, Courtney and Wise couldn’t imagine a more magical wedding day.
