Emergency Preparedness
While Ontario is a safe place to live and work, emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time. In an emergency you and your family could be without access to stores, electricity, running water and other critical supplies. That's why it is important that you are prepared by having an emergency survival kit. Find some of the recommended items you should have in your emergency survival kit. Remember every member of the household should know where the kit is kept!

Development Services
The Development Services department primarily administers the functions of the Planning, Building, and Municipal Enforcement Divisions. This includes maintaining and implementing Meaford’s Official Plan and Zoning By-law, and processing Ontario Planning Act applications; processing and conducting inspections for Building and Septic Permits in accordance with the Ontario Building Code; as well as, conducting inspections and actions to ensure compliance with domesticated Animal Control concerns, Municipal By-laws and applicable Provincial Statues.
Planning Services
Staff are responsible for processing and maintaining all types of planning, heritage and sign-permit applications and information; as well as, coordinating with other levels of government, First Nations, and peer review agencies on land use matters. Application forms and information about development proposals can be found on the Municipal website www.meaford.ca/planning. Online, you can also find full copies of our Official Plan and Zoning By-law for download. Questions regarding applications, scheduling of pre-submission consultations or requests for zoning and property-related information can be directed to planning@meaford.ca or 519-538-1060.
Building Services
Building Permits are required for new construction, renovation, or repair to a structure. Building staff are responsible for these processes, which help ensure that work complies with the Ontario Building Code, as well as, coordinating with Planning Services on zoning and other applicable legislation relating to your property. The Building Permit page of the Municipal website www.meaford.ca/building lists: the items that require building permits; application forms; how to schedule inspections; and, contact information. Municipal Enforcement
Municipal Law Enforcement services supports public safety for all residents and visitors within the municipality, promoting the safe and undisturbed enjoyment of Municipal land and facilities and residents’ private property.
