DIETA MEDITERRÂNICA PATRIMÓNIO CULTURAL MILENAR O que é a Dieta Mediterrânica? A exposição responde a esta questão dando a conhecer as suas múltiplas dimensões: o conceito de espaço cultural e de estilo de vida mediterrânico milenar, um património cultural imaterial transmitido de geração em geração e os seus aspetos sociais e religiosos, os alimentos sagrados e as suas simbologias, os produtos do mar e da terra que dão suporte a um regime alimentar de excelência reconhecido pela OMS - Organização Mundial de Saúde.
O enfoque central é o território e os múltiplos patrimónios de Tavira, os testemunhos da presença de civilizações da antiguidade, as paisagens culturais e os produtos da Ria Formosa, as produções do barrocal e da serra, as festividades e práticas culturais que fundamentam a escolha de Tavira como comunidade representativa de Portugal na Candidatura da Dieta Mediterrânica a Património Cultural Imaterial da Humanidade (PCI), a qual foi aprovada, no dia 4 de dezembro de 2013, em Baku, no Azerbaijão, na 8.ª sessão do Comité Intergovernamental para a Salvaguarda do PCI da UNESCO.

dimensions: the concept of cultural space and ancient Mediterranean lifestyle, an intangible cultural heritage passed on from generation to generation and their social and religious aspects, the sacred foods and their symbologies, products from the sea and from the land that support a diet of excellence recognized by the WHO - World Health Organization. The central focus is the territory and the multiple heritages of Tavira, the testimonies of the presence of ancient civilizations, cultural landscapes and the products of the Ria Formosa, the productions of the crags and mountains, the festivities and cultural practices that inspired the choice of Tavira in Portugal as a representative community on the Application of the Mediterranean Diet as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity which was approved on December 4, 2013, in Baku, Azerbaijan, on the 8th Session of the Intergovernmental Commitee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. "Mediterranean diet all year" is a safeguard activities program of the Mediterranean Diet, aimed at spreading the multiple dimensions of Mediterranean lifestyle and cultural landscape, based on its cyclic character. The program includes tours of interpretation of the territory, demonstrations, drawing sessions and workshops around the Mediterranean know-how. The activities are promoted by the municipality of Tavira and rely on the cooperation of local people and partnerships with other institutions, integrating the empirical and scientific knowledge.

A ideia de património evoluiu na Europa e no mundo durante os últimos séculos. A partir do colecionismo renascentista, real e aristocrático, surgiram até aos nossos dias, museus públicos e privados com objetivos, caraterísticas físicas, modelos programáticos e temáticas diversas. «Memória e Futuro» reflete a evolução desse conceito de património e as suas consequências locais, com destaque para as marcantes obras do engenheiro militar e matemático, Sande de Vasconcelos (séc. XVIII), e do pioneiro da arqueologia portuguesa, Estácio da Veiga (séc. XIX), profundamente ligados a Tavira. A exposição revela o percurso de décadas até à constituição de um museu para Tavira, as coleções atuais, sobretudo de arqueologia e etnografia, a demonstração da importância arquitetónica e artística do Centro Histórico e da presença e influência das instituições religiosa e militar, bem como as exposições e atividades mais recentes.
«MEMORY AND FUTURE» HERITAGE, COLLECTIONS AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF A MUSEUM FOR TAVIRA The idea of heritage has progressed in Europe and in the world during the past centuries. From the Renaissance collections, real and aristocratic, public and private museums emerged with goals, physical characteristics, programmatic models and various thematic. «Memory and Future» reflects the evolution of the concept of heritage and its local consequences, highlighting the remarkable works of the military engineer and mathematician, Sande Vasconcelos (18th century), and the pioneer of Portuguese archeology, Estacio da Veiga (19th century), strongly linked to Tavira. Partindo dos livros que integram a exposição "Memória e Futuro" procura-se sensibilizar para os fatores de deterioração dos bens culturais existentes no meio ambiente (temperatura, humidade relativa, luz, poluição atmosférica) e humano. A conservação dos bens culturais implica a adoção de medidas de prevenção, algumas delas que podem ser aplicadas nas nossas casas. Based on the books that integrate exhibition "Memory and Future" we seek to raise awareness to the causes of deterioration of cultural property existing in the environment (temperature, relative humidity, light, air pollution) and human. The conservation of cultural property implies the adoption of preventive measures, some of which can be applied in our homes.

The Islamic Center features a collection from archaeological excavations carried out in various parts of the city, dating mostly from the 12th century. Within the Center, visitors can observe an Islamic section of the wall that protected the citadel before the Christian reconquest, meet the famous "Vaso de Tavira" as well as its analysis in computerized tomography and a video about the islamic history of Tavira.

O Núcleo Islâmico contempla espólios arqueológicos provenientes de intervenções efetuadas em vários pontos da cidade, datados na sua maioria do séc. XII d.C.. No interior do Núcleo, o visitante poderá observar um troço da muralha islâmica que protegia a cidadela anterior à reconquista cristã, conhecer o célebre "Vaso de Tavira", bem como a sua análise em tomografia computorizada e um vídeo sobre a história islâmica de Tavira.

«PIONEERS OF SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE ALGARVE»
Depois da exposição "Algarve-Do Reino à Região", os museus algarvios voltam a unirse, desta vez, em torno do projeto comum "Pioneiros do Conhecimento Científico do Algarve" (conjuntamente com dez instituições pertencentes à Rede de Museus do Algarve), o qual incide sobre a geração de personalidades que, desde os finais do século XVIII até ao século XX, procuraram esclarecer e fundamentar os contornos da identidade do país, através do estudo da história e da cultura popular na região.
After the exhibition "Algarve-From the kingdom to the Region", the Algarve museums join up again, this time, around the joint project "Pioneers of Scientific Knowledge in the Algarve" (together with ten institutions belonging to the Algarve Museums Network) , which focuses on the generation of personalities that, from the late eighteenth century to the twentieth century, sought to clarify and support the country's identity contours, through the study of history and popular culture in the region.
No caso de Tavira, destaca-se o contributo dos pioneiros José Sande Vasconcelos e Estácio da Veiga para o desenvolvimento do conhecimento científico. O primeiro foi engenheiro militar, tendo-se notabilizado pela sua incansável atividade letiva e, sobretudo, pela sua extraordinária produção gráfica referente ao Algarve.
