Sigma Sigma Sigma and Alpha Sigma Phi, all second place, recieving $500; Delta Zeta and Delta Chi, third place, receiving $250. In addition to the Thunder Cup and float winners, the new Mr. and Miss Marshall, Cameron Lyons and Morgan Wright, were announced as well. Cameron Lyons, from Martinsburg, West Virginia, sponsored by the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity, said Marshall has become his home, and that an award like this is so humbling, knowing that others have seen his love for this school. “It means more than I can put into words,” Lyons said. “I’m honored that I was worthy of the title Mr. Marshall, especially compared to the all-star Homecoming court that we had this year. It is easily one of the greatest honors I have and will ever receive.” Morgan Wright, from Cleveland, Ohio, sponsored by Alpha Xi Delta sorority, said it is a title and honor that she will hold dear to her heart for the rest of her life. “I’m not from Huntington, or even West Virginia, but my home and heart is at Marshall University,” Wright said. “I have received so much love and support from my Marshall family throughout this campaigning process, and I couldn’t have asked for a better support system. This means so much to me, and I can’t thank everyone enough.” To top off Homecoming day, the Thundering Herd football team won 49-24 to Middle Tennessee State University. The Herd will travel to Miami, Florida, Saturday to take on Florida International University. Hannah Sayre can be contacted at sayre81@marshall.edu.

TODAY’S WEATHER:
THE PARTHENON Homecoming 2014 was a day full of excitement for fans, students and alumni, from the parade, to the half-time activities and a win for the Thundering Herd. Grand Marshal of the parade, Jim Justice, chairman and owner of The Greenbrier, said it was great to be back in Huntington for this special day. “It’s an incredible school, and I owe so much to the professors that were at Marshall when I went here,” Justice said. “The school is on the move, both academically and athletically, and Marshall University is just a special place.” Justyn Cox, Student Government Association President Pro-Tempore, said a lot of credit for the parade goes to the Senate members and Senate apprentices helping line up the 72 floats. “We couldn’t have had a successful parade without the help from all our senators and apprentices,” Cox said. “They did anything and everything they were asked.” During halftime of the football game, the winners of the Thunder Cup and the floats were announced. In the small category for the Thunder Cup, there was a tie between Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity and Alpha Phi Omega, a community service fraternity. The winner in the large category for the Thunder Cup was Delta Zeta sorority. Events for the Thunder Cup happened all week leading up to the homecoming game. The winners for the float competition were: Alpha Xi Delta, first place, receiving $750; Pi Kappa Alpha,

sororities and fraternities here at Marshall,” Trigg said. Trigg said she would love to see more events like this because they bring people of her culture together, and the lively entertainment makes it so much fun for everyone to enjoy and watch. Ronald Jones, a Marshall alumnus and brother of Kappa Alpha Psi, said the event was special since it represented a reunion of the nine Black Greek letter organizations (referred to as “The Divine Nine”)
