Liv Hospital was co-authorized after completing the “Center of Excellence Accreditation� in the branches of robotic surgery, colorectal surgery and obesity surgery by succeeding the stringent audit conducted by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) which is an impartial international commission. The Center of Excellence Accreditation which can be achieved by very few companies in the world was granted to an organization outside the Unites States for the first time by the concerning authority. Liv Hospital succeeded the 2-day stringent audit completely and accurately in the branches of robotic surgery, colorectal surgery and obesity surgery and scored a great success. Liv Hospital has been co-authorized by awarding the title of the Center of Excellence in the branches of robotic surgery, colorectal surgery and obesity surgery, and has proven that it provides the equivalent service with the reputable organizations of the world in these branches.
Why Center of Excellence? First of all, it must be proven to the auditor delegation that the qualification of the physician in the related fields, specific studies, to treat patients equivalent to the world-class criteria and in certain number, complications, readmission, and analysis and functional results of the clinical data are equivalent to the organizations accredited before. In addition, it must be proven during the audit that the patient treatment protocols are determined by making decisions through joint meetings conducted with other disciplines, that the healthcare services and their results are integrated, and that they are created by planning from past to the future. Also, achieving a certain quality in institutionalization and treatment outcomes is among the basic application criteria. Liv Hospital, after fulfilling all criteria required for application, has been audited for 2 days by the commission members who came from U.S. for audit purpose. Many fields including the number of cases performed by the Liv Hospital surgeons and complications rates, readmission, reoperation, complication rates, their educational backgrounds and qualifications, the symposiums and trainings they attended in regular manner, assessment of tasks, competencies and responsibilities of the persons from physicians to nurses, from janitors to allied health personnel, proper consultation and equipment, safety of the anesthesia and surgery processes, infection control, safe use of drugs, patient rooms, emergency unit, examination rooms, protocols of the clinical care standard, informant consent forms, from institutional commitment and support groups to building safety were scrutinized and went through a stringent audit.

HIPEC Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a form of heated chemotherapy directly applied to the abdominal cavity. It only penetrates directly into the cancer cells in the abdomen. This method allows the administration of higher dosage chemotherapy.
PAIN MANAGEMENT AND RELIEF (ALGOLOGY) The fact that the solution is heated increases absorption rates of the chemotherapy medication and eradicates microscopically sized cancer cells that remain in the abdomen after surgery.

INTRA OPERATIVE RADIOTHERAPY (IORT) RADIATION ONCOLOGY The main principle of radiotherapy is to eradicate the cancer cells, or to stop their division and multiplication. Radiotherapy can be administered on its own, or in conjunction with chemotherapy in line with pre- and post-surgery protocols. Radiotherapy is required in the treatment of about 70% of cancer cases. One of the factors affecting the success of radiotherapy is the kind of equipment and technology that is used. Our center uses the very latest technology in the form of the linear accelerator called the TrueBeam™ STx.

The TrueBeam™ STx's synchronized motion tracking makes a big difference in the treatment of lung, breast, prostatic and spinal region cancers and is used in all cancer cases that require radiation treatment.
IORT is radiotherapy applied during cancer surgery. The aim is the irradiation of the tumor field considered not removed completely from the region in the surgical margins. It destroys diseases microscopically and protects healthy organs and tissues. Results are achieved through IORT in the stomach, pancreas, intestine, colon, breast, soft tissue, lung, pediatric and gynecological center. It improves the patient's life quality by eradicating side effects seen in patients who must receive continuous radiation therapy and medication.

Autologous (obtained from the patient) fibroblast injections are used to treat age-related issues such as wrinkles, blemishes, and dulling of the skin. Fibroblast cells injected into the skin are activated in the area where they are transplanted, correctly regulating the protein make-up that has caused the structure of the skin to deteriorate by triggering the production of collagen and elastin. In this way, a strong anti-ageing impact is achieved by means of removing the signs of ageing on the skin.
FACIAL AND BODY FILLING (ANTI-AGEING) Just as various types of implant have been used as facial and body fillers, so can cells obtained from the patient’s own tissue be used for the same purpose. The use of cells obtained from the patient’s own body in fillers produced from regenerative cells minimizes this absorption problem.

DIABETIC FOOT TREATMENT A quarter of diabetic patients suffer diabetic foot complaints, and 8% of those cases result in the amputation of a foot or toe. Diabetic ulcers and sores that do not respond to traditional treatment methods are subject to the injection of regenerative cells into the surrounding tissue. This results in the restoration of blood circulation to the region and makes treatment possible.
BURNS Severe burns constitute some of the most diffcult cases confronted by plastic surgery. Patients may suffer permanent and severe scarring after recovery. The Liv Hospital Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research and Application Clinic uses regenerative cell applications to replace chronic burn tissue and give the patient a healthy appearance after recovery.
ACNE TREATMENT Acne scarring can be a significant cosmetic issue, especially on the face. Fillers have been used for a long time in dermato-cosmetology in treating acne scars. But this form of therapy needs to be repeated as the fillers decay. Moreover, possible side effects mean that this form of treatment is less frequently used today. Autologous fibroblast injections can be used in the treatment of acne scars, either on their own or in combination with applications such as dermaroller or laser treatment. Analysis of skin biopsies taken from treated patients indicates no incidence of thickening of the dermis or increased fibroblast volume-related inflammation.

PACEMAKER A pacemaker is a small device that’s placed in the chest or abdomen to help control abnormal heart rhythms. This device uses electrical pulses to prompt the heart to beat at a normal rate. A pacemaker can relieve some arrhythmia symptoms, such as fatigue and fainting, and help a person who has abnormal heart rhythms resume a more active lifestyle.

3D MAPPING SYSTEM The correct identification of the exact region in which the problem is occurring is a crucial factor in the treatment of arrhythmia. The Liv Hospital’s advanced 3D Mapping System produces a precise map that shows the distribution of electrical impulses.
ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL CATHETER ABLATION Electrophysiological Catheter Ablation is a minimally invasive procedure in which a thin, flexible tube or catheter is inserted into a blood vessel and threaded through the blood vessel to the heart. The doctor can then apply radiofrequency energy, laser energy or freezing temperature (cryoablation) to destroy the abnormal heart tissue which causes the arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat.
TREATING HEART FAILURE WITH PACEMAKERS Two kinds of pacemaker treatments give hope to patients with drug-resistant heart failure. Patients with delayed cardiac electric impulse can have their cardiac performance significantly improved with three-lead pacemaker cardiac resynchronization treatment. The second method involves directly increasing cardiac contraction strength through specialized stimulation in a process called cardiac contractility modulation therapy.
INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY (STENTING)
TAVI (TRANSCATHETER AORTIC VALVE IMPLANTATION)
Patients diagnosed with cardiac blood vessel constriction using wrist access coronary angiography can be treated in a 30 minute stent procedure under local anesthetic. The most advanced technologies including soluble stents are employed, ensuring patients can return to normal life the next day.
Patients with severe aortic valve stenosis, advanced age cases or those for whom surgery is a high-risk option, can benefit from the non-surgical TAVI procedure. Accessing from the groin, the TAVI procedure reduces surgery-related risk factors while the patient can be quickly discharged.
INTRAVASCULAR IMAGING
3-D ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY
3-D imaging within the coronary arteries can be carried out using advanced technology such as OCT (optical coherence tomography), allowing more accurate and precise stenting procedures. The potential benefit of stenting to the individual patient can be predicted using FFR measurements.
3-D cardiac imaging similar to the images seen during open heart surgery can be obtained for the diagnosis of heart disease and congenital heart disease. 3-D echocardiography is superior to conventional echocardiography in terms of diagnosis as well as determining the correct timing of surgery.

ANGIOGRAPHY Accessing via veins in the leg, angiography can involve keeping the patient bedbound for 6 hours and carries the risk of bleeding. Balloon and stent procedures at Liv Hospital are carried out with access from the pulse vessels in the wrist. Patients undergoing wrist access angio procedures are able to get up immediately after the procedure has been completed, and can return home without the risk of bleeding.

CORONARY BY-PASS SURGERY It is a surgical procedure performed to relieve angina and reduce the risk of death from coronary artery disease. Arteries or veins from elsewhere in the patient’s body are grafted to the coronary arteries to bypass atherosclerotic narrowings and improve the blood supply to the coronary circulation supplying the myocardium (heart muscle).
THE ERA OF ROBOTIC HEART SURGERY Robotically assisted surgery begins with access through the side of the chest via small incisions, avoiding having to open the center of the chest. The operation is performed through a 4-5 cm incision under the breast. The hybrid approach involves inserting 1 or 2 stents in the patient’s vein while the robot assists in carrying out a by-pass on the other vessels. Targeted lung cancer surgery is now possible with Intra Operative Radiotherapy (IORT). IORT protects healthy organs and tissue while destroying surrounding cancer cells using radiation. After surgical removal of the patient’s tumor, the high-risk area is prepared for radiotherapy. While the patient is under anesthetic, the surgeon opens up the treatment area by separating the abdominal organs. Then, after the radiation oncologist has determined the correct dosage to be applied, radiotherapy is applied as a single-dose treatment. When the radiotherapy is completed, the surgical wound is closed and the procedure is concluded. IORT enhances patients’ quality of life by eliminating the side effects of continuous radiotherapy and medication.

Varicose veins causes pain and swelling as well as being unsightly, and requires treatment. There are a number of methods used in this treatment around the world, principally laser treatment, open surgery, radiofrequency ablation and foam sclerotherapy. Liv Hospital employs all these methods, according to the exact nature and severity of the individual patient’s condition.
An aneurysm is an abnormal widening or ballooning of a portion of an artery due to weakness in the wall of the blood vessel. If the condition is not treated effectively it can lead to bleeding and in extreme cases death. They are known as “stealthy killers” and for this reason smokers and men over the age of 60 are advised to undergo ultrasound tests to detect the disease.
DIABETIC FEET The main causes of diabetic infection are vascular disease and nerve damage. About 25% of diabetic patients experience some form of diabetic foot condition and the Liv Hospital is fully equipped for their treatment both by means of surgical intervention and in cooperation with the alternative.

PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) increases with age, in which plaque builds up in the arteries that carry blood to the head, organs, and limbs. PAD usually affects the arteries in the legs, but it also can affect the arteries that carry blood from the heart to the head, arms, kidneys, and stomach. Failure to intervene can lead to stroke and paralysis.
GASTROENTEROLOGY
Procedures including Gastroscopy, Colonoscopy, Endosonography (evaluation of the stomach, intestinal bile ducts and the pancreas using endoscopic sonography) and ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography - bile duct and pancreatic endoscopy) are carried out with the support of our specialist anesthetist at our Gastroenterology Department in three rooms (two Endoscopy Units and one Intervention Unit). We are proud that our center has become the first and only center in Turkey to perform the specialized procedures listed below within such a short period of time.

REFLUX AND MOTILITY CENTER Reflux diseases can only be accurately diagnosed with the appropriate tests and analysis. Specialist physicians at our center successfully carry out a range of advanced tests including High Resolution Manometry, 24-Hour BRAVO® CAPSULE pH Monitoring and Impedance Tests. BARRX®: AN END TO REFLUX-RELATED CANCER
STRETTA (ENDOSCOPIC REFLUX TREATMENT)
Being implemented for the first time in Turkey at our clinic, the BARRX® system can cleanse the body of reflux-related precursor cancer tissue, in a procedure lasting about an hour. If the procedure is performed in the morning, you can be back at work the same afternoon.
The underlying cause of reflux disease is slackness in the valve-like structure at the junction of the esophagus and the stomach. The only scientifically recognized method of endoscopic treatment, STRETTA is performed at our center with high rates of success. The procedure achieves high resolution imaging of the lower tip of the esophagus; you can return to your normal life after a couple of hours.
CAPSULE COLONOSCOPY At last you can cast your fear of colonoscopy aside. Orally administered, the 2nd Generation Colon Capsules equipped with micro-cameras at each tip can provide an evaluation of the large intestine with 90-95% sensitivity. Following the 5-minute capsule swallowing procedure, you can return to your daily routine. All that is needed is for you or a friend to bring the mobile phone-like monitoring device that you will carry round your waist for 8 – 10 hours, back to the hospital.
DOUBLE BALLOON ENTEROSCOPY Ours is Turkey’s most experienced Balloon Enteroscopy clinic; this is the procedure in which a device with a balloon at each tip is used to evaluate the up to 5 meter-long small intestine.
ENDOSCOPIC OBESITY TREATMENT This involves the gastroscopic insertion of a balloon (Intragastric Balloon) into the stomach, designed to reduce its volume. Retained for 6-12 months depending on the patient’s condition, the procedure helps you to lose weight without altering the anatomy of your stomach.

An ultrasonography-like procedure, Fibroscan® achieves equivalent results to a liver biopsy. At the end of a procedure that lasts just 10 minutes, we are able to establish the extent of liver damage caused by fatty liver, Hepatitis B and C, alcohol or autoimmune related liver diseases, and whether or not cirrhosis has developed. In a country in which the number of centers that have this equipment can be counted on the fingers of one hand, we are at your service to handle any concerns you may have about the state of your liver.

Preferred treatments vary according to the underlying reasons for sleep disorders. At Liv Hospital a multidisciplinary approach means that sleep disorders are treated in collaboration between the ENT, chest disease and neurology departments. HEAD AND NECK CANCER SURGERY Surgical treatment is performed in all kinds of cancer occurring in the head and neck region. The department aims to overcome problems that can arise following surgery using advanced reconstructive methods. All kinds of cancers originating in the thyroid glands are treated following examinations carried out by the endocrinology department. FEMTOCATARACT needle-free, painless cataract surgery Femtosecond laser technology facilitates a two-stage laser and ultrasonic wave treatment that puts both patient and surgeon at ease. The procedure can also be used to free the patient from the need to wear glasses by safely implanting intraocular lenses for near and far sighted patients, or toric intraocular lenses to correct astigmatism. The cataract is safely and rapidly cleared using a standard phaco system after femtosecond laser fragmentation of the lens through a tiny round incision made by laser in the front of the lens. This combined phaco / femto laser surgical procedure reduces complications when compared to standard phaco operations. Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract techniques constitute a significant milestone in modern cataract surgery for both patients and physicians, in terms of offering a safe, controlled, and successful surgical solution to cataract issues.
WHAT ABOUT AFTER SURGERY? Patients can return to normal life straight after the surgery. This technique facilitates surgical intervention after visual impairment has begun, before loss of sight. In today’s hectic world, cataract sufferers need a rapid return to their daily life routine.
CATARACTS Cataracts cause visual loss occurs because opacification of the lens obstructs light from passing and being focused on to the retina at the back of the eye; the condition can only be treated with surgery. Liv Hospital uses the “Femtosecond LaserAssisted Cataract Surgery” method. This short painless procedure requires no anesthetic or needle, and the patient can safely return home shortly afterwards. The Clinic offers advanced methods such as specially designed “Wavefront” lenses used in the treatment of age-related night vision loss and other conditions, and multifocal toric lenses that address astigmatism and presbyopia. 46

The vertebrate retina is a light-sensitive layer of tissue lining the inner surface of the eye that is essential for vision. Retina problems can lead to diseases that affect vision, or even cause loss of sight, and should be treated as a matter of urgency. Individual patients may require medical, laser or surgical intervention depending on the type and severity of their condition. REFRACTIVE SURGERY (OptiLASIK) Excimer-Laser and Refractive Surgery treatments are applied with personalized optic laser programs in laser treatment for myopi, hypermetropi and astigmat problems by the most advanced devices. Our Hospital, offers different types of laser and intra-eye lens options to the patients who are not suitable for classic laser procedure.
