•

Measure your hose to and mark where you wish to cut the hose for the correct length. Make sure to take into consideration the length of the fittings you are attaching and deduct enough to make your assembly an overall length of hose.

Use Filament tape or tape that will prevent fraying of the stainless steel outer braid and wrap around area you are about to cut. For ease of removal we recommend making a tail at the end of the piece of tape so it is easy to find and remove.

•

Cut the hose at the mark you made using an approved hose cut off saw such as a FT1500 cut off saw. A fine tooth hacksaw may also be used to cut the hose. Make sure not to get debris in the hose which will contaminate your A/C system.

•

Using the Aeroquip FBM3464 seating tool pictured on the left, or a razor knife, remove any burrs from the both ends of the hose, making it as round and catch free to insert the fitting into the inside of the tube. Clean hose at this stage if needed. Do not remove tape yet.

•

The following are the components that go into a fitting for FBF style A/C hose. Starting from the left, there is a socket, then the o-ring/brass sleeve combination A/C sleeve, then a straight fitting, and then the green A/C pilot o-ring. Both o-rings are extremely important to prevent refrigerant leakage on your assembly.

•

Slip the socket over the hose and tape (the tape keeps the stainless steel braiding from becoming frayed while assembling) The threaded end of the socket should be to the end of the hose that you are attaching the fitting into.

•

Remove the tape once the collar is on the hose. Next, using a small screwdriver, push away the stainless steel braid from the tube until there is about a 1/16 to 1/8 inch gap between the braid and the tube.

•

Carefully insert the brass sleeve and o-ring under the stainless steel braid and over the tube of the FBF hose. The end of the tube should butt up against the o-ring and the o-ring should butt up against the sleeve. Visually inspect to verify that it has seated correctly.

•

*Important* Using refrigerant oil, lubricate the end of the fitting that seats against the o-ring. This will ease insertion, create a better seal, and make it less likely that you will damage the o-ring when assembling together.

•

Make sure the tube is as round as possible for easy insertion of the nipple– Recommended using Aeroquip tool FBM3464, this also sets the tube into the sleeve.

•

It can be a little tricky, but insert the lubricated nipple into the end of the hose, coming in as straight as possible. The sleeve should bottom out onto the nipple. Bring the collar up and hand tighten.

•

Place in a vice and using a wrench, tighten the nipple the rest of the way into the socket. It is o.k. if the hose rotates during this process. Tighten until there is approximately a thumb nail clearance between the socket and the nipple. Do not over-tighten the threads, this could cause stripping the threads.

Repeat steps to complete other end. Once assembled, remove any contaminants from the hose before installing on your A/C system.

If you kinked or damaged the hose in any way during assembly, you have created a weak point in the tube. You must start with a new piece of hose to prevent fluid loss.

These hose ends are considered reusable, however, you must replace the o-ring and sleeve every time to give the best sealing surface from the soft brass.

Only use same manufacturer hose and fittings. Mixing manufacturers can cause seeping, weeping and leaking because of the higher tolerances maintained by Eaton Aeroquip fittings and hose. Although it’s fun to say those three words in the same sentence, it equates to environmental damage and costly replacement of refrigerant fluid.
