Muriel Lenore
Muriel L. Whetstone Sims is a published magazine journalist whose work experience includes editorial positions at The Chicago Reporter, Ebony, Essence, and The Dallas Observer magazines as well as The Fort Worth Star-Telegram newspaper. She spent 7 years as staff writer for Bishop T.D. Jakes and The Potter’s House of Dallas. In August 2008, she received her Master’s degree in Women’s Studies from Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. Her work is published in a number of university-level textbooks. In July 2009, an annual mammogram, a sonogram, and a biopsy revealed that Ms. Sims’ body had developed genetic Stage 1 breast cancer. As a result, she chose to undergo a bilateral mastectomy to remove both breasts. On the surgical table breast expanders were placed under her chest muscles, and almost a year later, the expanders were replaced with saline implants. She received I.V. drip chemotherapy every three weeks for four months and an adjunct treatment for 12 months in the same manner.
