Thirty years since a legislation was passed that prohibited the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in schools and other state funded organisations in the UK - Section 28. This inhumane law had a devastating impact on the lives of queers of all ages. Vehement public activism has finally succeeded for it to be repealed in Scotland in 2001, and in England and Walesand in 2003. During this workshop run by Darn It you’ll create unique swirling patterns with brightly coloured marbling inks on a variety of papers and cards. These will act as a cover for a hand bound book, we’ll be using Japanese stab binding techniques to create books with a variety of decorative stitching. W O R D @ Anthony Burgess Foundaton Using research from the AHRC-funded Remembering 1960s British Cinemagoing project, UCL Historian Dr Patrick Glen is hosting a showing of Andy Warhol’s 1965 adaptation of A Clockwork Orange, Vinyl. The film will be introduced with a short talk about cinema-going in the 1960s that explains Dr Glen’s findings about underground and counter-cultural cinema-goers. After the film, those who remember
going to the cinema in the 1960s will be asked to share their memories.
