For Jan This issue is dedicated to the memory of Jan Oldenburg. Dutch by birth, Mancunion by design, Jan was the owner of Night and Day Café for 27 years and was at the forefront of the Northern Quarter’s reinvention. He will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends.

In the 1960s and 70s a group of women working at the BBC developed and composed music for innovative early synthesisers. DJ sets will celebrate the legacy these pioneering women. £8, 7.30 - 10.30pm

Low-volume peace-punk from LAPortland combo and the homecoming of sorts for self-eviscerating singersongwriter Irma Vep. Shimmy over to MCR’s brand new bookshop, YumYum, on the 1st floor above Beermoth on Tib Street. £5, 6 - 9.30pm

13 November Hailu Mergia @ Band on the Wall
The story of Hailu Mergia is one of the most incredible in the contemporary club scene. A musical legend in the 70s in Ethiopia, he was forced to flee the country and ended up working as a taxi driver for almost 30 years in Washington DC. Recently, his music was picked up again by Brian from Awesome Tapes of Africa and now he’s touring the world playing sold out shows for western hipster crowds. His funky, jazzy groove will blow you off your feet! £13.50/15.50 7.30 - 11pm
14 November Mike Dennis @ Strange Brew Bar
In what he refers to as »violinica«, virtuoso Mike Dennis, hailed as »Wales’ Bach meets Beastie Boys«, is touring the UK. With a combination of hip hop, rap and classical violin, he uses loop pedals to build up to a crescendo of noise, before a cascade fiercely passionate rap engulfs your senses. FREE, 8 - 11pm
22 November Proc Fiskal (hyperdub) + Sadé Mica @ The White Hotel
Scottish DJ and Producer Proc Fiskal performs speedy melodic grime with a touch of the absurd. Supported by the wonderful Sadé Mica, providing a live dance performance with the dreamiest spoken word that will make you feel like you’re sat on the ceiling looking down. Murmur loves it when people put on gigs that push boundaries, this is one of them. Check it out! £8, 8 - 11pm
26 November Pardans/Unpaid Intern/WURMS @ Fuel Cafe Bar
Copenhagen-based jazz-punk sextet Pardans are taking their home country’s underground scene by storm, touring with bands like Iceage and Marching Church. Their live shows are known to be awash with energy, combining rock with orchestral elements. Supported by Manchester’s Unpaid Intern and WURMS. £5, 7 - 10pm
29 November Ambient Church w/Ben Vince @ Sacred Trinity Church
New Manchester eventors Ohr are teaming up with Manchester-based experimental electronica label Cong Burn to put together ambient gatherings in Sacred Trinity Church. This showcase feats the sublime experimental saxophony of Ben Vince as well as some of Cong Burn’s other talents, including Carlos, A New Line (Realted) and Anxiety Support Group. £6, 7 - 11pm

Halloween is not quite over, yet! come in fancy dress and dance to spooky records spun by BIG DISCO, Mister Strange, Rob Parkinson & special super-secret ghouly guests. The first day party instalment of All Hands blew our gloves of. Now it’s back with a late club night session. This is a haven for creative women and non-binary folk to try their hands at DJing out in a lowpressure, all welcoming, and inclusive environment. 23 November Fatty Acid @ Partisan
Fatty Acid is a brand new LGBTQIA+ night at Partisan for trans and queer folks and everyone who supports them. Calling itself “aggressively queer, radically tender”, the night will include a dressing up station in case you forgot your platform heels, a speed friending session hosted by M(.)ist Collective, a zine craft club, tunes from Jumeau (Gal Pals) and performances by drag legend Violet Blonde with even more to be announced. 24 November Too Many Manchester @ YES
Too Many Man is a night especially designed to celebrate music made and sung by women. What started as a DJ night by Fay Milton from Savages in the Shacklewell Arms in London is now on its way to also becoming a Manchester staple soon! FREE, 11pm - 3am
30 November RNB Presents: ArtJam #2 @ Aatma
This arty-farty pop-up party has purple as its main theme - the colour of extravagance, magic, pride and
creativity. RNB’s resident door babes Sebastian Saint Charles & Sophie Satanique will welcome you in for a cheeky night with DJ sets from Manchester’s amazing LGBT+, QTIPOC and BAME community. Wear purple to win one of the very special goodie bags! £6, 11pm - 4am
30 November Auntie Flo »Radio Highlife« @ Soup Kitchen
If you want to double down on joyously danceable music on the final Friday of the month, look no further than Auntie Flo’s live performance of his latest LP at Soup Kitchen. Late night live shows are becoming a staple in the Soup calendar, and if Sophie’s set last month is anything to go by, this will be a treat. £9, 11pm - 4am

We can’t get enough of these happenings: no customers, no bosses, no profits - just a bunch of friendly folk thrown together in a dreamy sea of warm retro visuals, soaking up the sounds of incredible local DJs, record browsing, munching delicious food, playing video games and lounging on gigantic, comfy bean bags. One of Manchester School of Art’s most ambitious (and inspiring) new courses - Fashion Art Direction cordially invites you to the course’s first group exhibition ex-universita. 15 November The Ground Beneath Your Feet @ Castlefield Gallery
The Ground Beneath Your Feet launches this November. With artists from Israel, Ecuador, Iran, Scotland and England, working with film, sculpture, currency, and fungi, this exhibition aims to keep the conversation around borders, refugees, and immigration nuanced. 15 November sees the launch of the exhibition with a performance by Omid Asadi, inspired by musical rituals from southern Iran. FREE, 6 - 8pm
29 November Thursday Lates: Perspectives in Contemporary Art @ Whitworth Art Gallery
Presented by visual arts charity Venture Arts, PERSPECTIVES addresses the visibility of learning disabled artists in the contemporary art world. Their takeover at the Whitworth features an exploration of the museum’s Outsider Art collection and an immersive audiovisual piece by artist Joe Beedles. FREE, 6 - 9pm
W A T C H 3 & 4 November Queer Media Festival @ Sharp Project/Tribeca/HOME
The UK’s only queer digital arts festival returns for its fifth year in Manchester. If you’re interested in amplifying LGBTQ voices and changing the way queer narratives are told, this festival is for you. Featuring workshops, talks and film screenings. ☞

5 November Uncovered: Monologues by Muslim Women @ Theatre Space/Students’ Union
The London-based spoken word night for women swings by Manchester after a shows at the Edinburgh fringe and the Royal Albert Hall. That’s What She Said showcases the best new writing and performance by women and non-binary writers, and this Manchester instalment features the likes of pop poet Louise Fazackerley, spoken word artist Ros Ballinger and writer Benjamina Albanese. Plus open mic! £5/£3, 7 - 10pm
18 November Lost Land: International Film Festival @ Partisan Collective
7 November Revolting Prostitutes: Sex Work Research Hub + book launch @ Partisan Collective
Inspired by the Hijabi Monologues by Sahar Ishtiaque Ullah, this show at the Manchester Students’ Union aims to claim a space for muslim women in theatre and tell individual stories that go beyond the publicly much discussed hijab. £5, 7.30 - 9pm
Lost Land was established with the incentive to make refugees’ voices heard. The festival will showcase films by and about refugees, addressing current global issues. All profits will go to Help Refugees and Safe Passage. Donations, 10am - 10pm
22 November Appropriate Behaviour @ Partisan Collective
A new queer screening series for Manchester for all film lovers who want to support diversity in film making. Get involved with this nonhierarchical D.I.Y. cinema club and help get underrepresented voices of women, BAME, POC and non-binary directors heard - and seen! 23 November Funny Cow + Q&A w/ Maxine Peake @ Moston Small Cinema
Starring Maxine Peake and Paddy Considine, Funny Cow tells the story of a female comedian trying to make a name for herself in the northern working men’s clubs of the 70s. After the screening, there will be a Q&A with Maxine. £11, 4 - 9.30pm
A mini conference and book launch dedicated to conversations about sex workers’ rights and the research behind women’s sex work, its criminalisation and history. A panel of academics and representatives of the English Collective of Prostitutes will take Juno Mac and Molly Smiths new book as a starting point to discuss stigma and workers’ rights of sex trade. FREE, 6.30 - 9pm
16 November Women of Aktion @ Partisan Collective
In this imagined piece, theatre company Bent Architect expertly weave the life stories of the women of Germany during WWI revealing an alternative truth to how the war really ended - from a woman’s perspective. Oh, What a Lovely … well, see yourselves. £9/12, 7.30 - 9pm
21 November Big Words @ Vinyl Fiction
Live literature at its most energetic. Catch punky poetry and soaring stories from Manchester’s finest up-and-coming writers inside the snug environs of Chorlton’s finest independent book & record shop. 23 & 24 November Poetry Emergency: Radical Poetry Festival @ Salford Uni// 70 Oxford Street
Poetry Emergency is a two-day festival exploring how poetry can be an act of resistance against passivity. On Friday, head to the New Adelphi Studio Theatre at Salford University for a day of workshops, discussions and performances. On Saturday, visit the mini book fair and enjoy readings by radical poets and spoken word artists at 70 Oxford Street, MCR. £3/8, Fri & Sat 10am - 9pm

25 November Treacle Market @ Macclesfield Town Hall Every month stalls spring up on the streets surrounding Macclesfield’s - or Treacletown’s - historic town hall and market place. Wander these streets which were once subject to a spillage of treacle (hence the name) and find stalls selling allsorts: cheese, honey, plants, vintage furniture, vinyl, you name it. 10am - 3.30pm
