There is nothing positive about pain. It’s a simple statement of fact, with doctors John Broadnax and Eric Anderson standing in complete agreement. The two doctors, who met in Chicago while working together at a pain management facility, combined their considerable experience to establish the Advanced Pain Institute of Texas from the ground-up in December 2017. While it didn’t show in the architectural

drawings, the foundation for the practice was a combination of values, visions, and dreams.

The shared goal was to reduce each patient’s pain to an unpleasant memory, including pain related to musculoskeletal, spine, and nerve issues.

“We wanted to create a world-class interventional pain practice to serve the needs of the community. A primary element of our focus was to significantly impact the lives of patients who, without us, might have only limited treatment options,” Dr. Broadnax said.

Proof of their success rests in their multiple Best of Denton County awards. The Lewisville practice has surpassed its original goals in just four years by staying ahead of the curve in cutting edge procedures and equipment. One example is the Medtronic Differential Target Multiplex (DTM) spinal cord stimulation waveform.

“It works by sending a pulse that interrupts the pain signal moving up the spinal cord to the brain. If needed, multiple types of nerves can be targeted simultaneously. The result is 80-100 percent of the chronic pain is eliminated,” Dr. Anderson said.

An added benefit is ridding the need for opioids in pain management. Another procedure allowing people to say goodbye to chronic discomfort is radiofrequency ablation, which is especially effective for arthritis-related back pain.

The treatment has been available for years, but Dr. Broadnax and Advanced Pain Institute invested a ton of time and effort to hone and refine the technique and technology. As a result, it’s advanced to a new level of effectiveness.

“It’s now a true game-changer,” said Dr. Broadnax. “We’re able to provide huge, minimally-invasive pain relief quickly. Possible complications are limited, and most people return to their normal lives.”

To remain in their leadership position, Advanced Pain Institute of Texas spearheads several on-going clinical research trials to identify and test new therapies for chronic pain relief. That’s how they return patients to the lives they knew and loved before pain interrupted.
