The concept behind the Charles is to have a high seat modular sofa with all the elements available in different forms, types and sizes. Patricia Urquiola has designed a surprising series of seats that transform the traditional concept of the sofa. She has named the product Bend-Sofa due to its curvaceous albeit monolithic form. It gives the appearance of being manually moulded from a supple material as if by a sculptor. In practice, it’s made from a study of 3-D models and digital research. Bend-Sofa effectively conveys the idea of motion by alternating full and empty spaces. Contrasting stitchings add to the intrinsic design on the surface. The backrest is irregularly shaped, but without compromising comfort. Curved modules - assembled starting with the seats, ottoman and corner elements - form a sofa that breaks out of the usual visual schemes and differentiates from other contemporary pieces on account of its calculated eccentricity.

WOOD: A heritage to be protected The indiscriminate use of wood and consequent depletion of the world’s forests is slowly but surely becoming a thing of the past. As a result, special resource maintenance and reforestation programs are being carried out in many countries. The Butterfly gets its name from the â&#x20AC;&#x153;butterflyâ&#x20AC;? shape created by the outer corner that joins the armrest and the backrest. It is a modular seating system that responds effectively to the needs of customization and comfort, suitable for free and informal usage. Its modular structure is shaped around an ottoman, which is the base piece, and, when integrated with the backrest and/or the armrest, becomes a central or terminal element, either left or right. The combination of these elements, using a simple joint system, makes it possible to set up versatile, free-form configurations, from in-line sofas to corner solutions, and front facing as well as lounge layouts.

The rounded, soft and sinuous shapes of the Fat-Sofa seating system are the basis for the new outdoor version, characterized by a brand new interlacing design. Its fully padded seat is accompanied by a metal frame backrest that supports the original weave, creating a special play of fullness and emptiness. The large weave pattern, made of tortora coloured twisted polyethylene fibres, makes the design unique and respects the designer’s idea of lightness, transparency and puts the furnishings in an open “dialogue” with the surrounding environment. Fat-Sofa Outdoor consists of four types, ranging from the linear sofa to a chaise longue, to two height variants in the armchairs.

OUTDOOR FABRIC The threads in B&B Italia Outdoor fabrics offer excellent colour resistance to UV rays, brine, chlorine, acids, suntan creams, sweat, stains and wear. The stabilisers added for outdoor use and the additives used for dying the thread prevent the formation of bacteria, mold and fungus. The stitching on the covers are designed with a special thread with a water-repellent finish, that blocks the absorption of water and penetration through to the fabric. Carefully tensioned stitching prevents the passage of water through the needle hole. The water resistance of the fabrics, differs according to their fiber composition and their treatment. To launder the Outdoor covers at home, please follow the instructions represented by the care symbols attached to the product.

OUTDOOR UPHOLSTERIES Polyester covers: to better protect the upholstery (seat cushions, headrests and backs), all cushions are fitted with a polyester cover whose water repellent treatment offer greater protections and an additional barrier against the penetration of liquids. The covers on Butterfly and Fat-Sofa Outdoor upholstery also offer the additional protection of a heat-sealed ribbon under the stitching, which makes the linings completely waterproof. Upholsteries: The seat cushions are made of contoured polyurethane, and the backrest cushions are in polyester fiber. To fight the formation of folds and/or wrinkles caused by use, we recommend simply hanging the cover out and beating it manually to remove dust and air from the fibres. If the upholstery accidentally gets wet because of a strong, unexpected shower, we recommend removing the cover and allowing the product to air/sun dry. Husk Outdoor upholstery: regularly detach the cushion from the frame and fluff it up on all sides. To launder the upholstery at home, follow the care symbols attached to the product. Hang it in the open air to dry. When the product is not being used (for example, in the winter), we recommend you remove the seat and back cushions and place them in a dry, ventilated area.
