London Calling With New
Artful Adventures In Music Life‌ #mpzine @rocklandstv
New music style artists and media approaching. Autumn 2013.
USP? There are too many unique selling points to mention, but a key factor is that this tale of Once Upon Another Time is a movement being lived on land, on line and under radar in the spirit of what is best described as uniqulture. Tweet. Or search the hash tag for news updates. The rest of this is just usual Monthly Planet style

The ups and downs of analogue people livening up the digital age inspire. The cover image is Richey Ostrowski of 16 Hole Boots (ta for the intro Dizzy Spell) by Rupert Hitchcox at the June ArtBeat music social a few days after I’d been thrilled by their gig. That same evening Ben Dodd initiated TryLife.TV to our story and us into theirs. More happens. Read on. Come in‌

There was an on line, cut n paste fanzine. Inspired by the Metropolis based publication, The Daily Planet. It wasn’t monthly (I was out gigging and all that) but it tipped well, wove artists into uniqulture and proved itself. Approx 10,000 readers is a small but healthy way to start something new. This is the last incarnation of it, as ideas have exploded like fireworks at our first editorial planning (after Peoples Day) of whats next. The great thing is that we know some great quality, creative talents between us that are coming on board. Stay tuned‌ in the mean time. XXX Caffy

Uniqulture. The last month will shape the next months. Above, Rhiannon The Nightmare live at The Big Red Sessions. These are musical gatherings in a shipping container behind the double decker red bus pizzeria in Deptford, South East London. All that is required is entertainment value and good songs. It needs to be kept simple in such a venue. Musician Ceri James is co-curator and on tour in his native wales this summer.
Wednesday 19th June, Rhiannon The Nightmare were live in Anyway, I digress, on
session on Joyzine Radio. Country punk blues with a saucy sparkl that you can sing along to from this Deptford Army posse. Actually, quite a bit happened that day.

19th June I met up with Synergie 16 Productions and Stigma Global in the West End.
Earlier on
What can I say, except that some very exciting and widely beneficial projects - in association with the Urban Arts Experience - are in the pipeline. Nearly skipped from Oxford Street to Fitzrovia, I was that excited. Calmed down a bit by the time I reached the BandWagon gigs social where I met more great music industry up for trying new things. In fact I’d first met Maria and Stan BandWagon through friendliness during an Artful month, roll on October for new beginnings. From there it was a tube ride and under the river Thames home to South London where I met fellow Rocklands collaborator, Rupert Hitchcox across the road from New Cross Station at The Amersham Arms where we experienced the most amazing Dry the River gig for the London date on their hot ticket, low key tour. Ru took the audience image below. Adoration was in the air… (and again the next night too, actually…

DJ Yoda and the Trans Siberian March Band played a one-off charity fundraiser preview of 2013 Glastonbury, Standon Calling and Bestival set at close range in what they describe as All proceeds went to Rett Syndrome Research Trust UK fighting a children’s brain disease. We danced. We laughed. We PARTIED!

It is great to see the locals reclaiming the venue again now that its under some pretty rock n roll management. I was also excited to bump into Andy n Jamie of Propaganda Radio show. Ben, Ru and I exchanged excited catch ups via beer, chat n chips before we went in for DJ Yoda frolics. Hmmm. Yes. Quite a few of these images and exchanges are created in South East London, but thats just where we live. Also, I’m one of the live music promoters down that way. But it really is not where you’re from but where you’re at. We exist wherever welcome. Drank loads. Too much, in fact, to get up early hours and do serious grown up business the next morning. But I managed it. Was knackered by the afternoon of Friday 20th June. No time to be tired for too long though. Got my second wind. Helped it with strong hot black coffee and red stripe. And yay, partyCaff was back and ready for a grrrreat night out in honour of London mover-shaker but most importantly wonderful human being, Jean Genie Graham. Another very talented friend of mine, she is a musician, radio presenter/producer who hosts Panda~Power! Events, is our resident DJ at the Playhard live music stream show and a ray of sunshine, amongst much else. T’was a real gathering at Power’s Bar in Kilburn that evening… (/continued)

Playhard co-promoter, creative talent, scouting star, queen rock chick and larger than life lovely Heather Minx Ferguson introduced us to Bad Wolf. They have gob smacking rock songs, an infectiously engaging live presence and a never dull tale. Went down a treat at Playhard and picked up international interest at the same time. After getting their first BBC Introducing play the weekend before, this evening’s show at Powers Bar in Kilburn was their “third time lucky” attempt to play a gig at The Wheelbarrow in Camden… (!) On 20th July they went into Titan Studios with Gallows producer, Steve Sears, to record their debut album.

Multi talents ahoy - Dizzy Spell (who I met coming down the steps of 229 Great Portland Street, to a Rocklands gig to see Patrick Jones) and Gabi Garbutt (who additionally DJ’d at Jean Genie’s Panda~Power! The Friday before). Small audience = more fresh black cherries to share round and a chance for some proper conversations and connections. They met this evening, but after a shout out for a photographer a few years ago, Dizzy introduced me to Andrei Nedelea of Red Stag Management who photographed visual artists Eugene Ankomah while listening to the band he managed, Warehouse Republic. Great songswe got into, and later Gabi sang vocals on one of their recordings. Feels like things go round in magic circles. Dizzy is in consultation making a film of with Patrick Jones. Us Manics fans get around…

Digital Age. Analogue Future. Spent the most AMAZING Friday 12th July afternoon. Ben also introduced me to Darren and the amazing Opus Audio sound system. Honey in our ears on a sunny day. Above, Rich from Bad For Lazarus, a band that literally rock my socks off. End of the day chill out with some new friends. See future for the next outcomes‌

13th July: a giant cat directed me to a day of peace and love and music where I caught ArtBeat faves like The Otherside, Heads.Hearts and Floodliners at People’s Day Festival. We were also a Synergie 16 / Rupert Hitchcox Photography / Ben & Caffy #mpzine team with TryLife.TV by now…

Everybody brings individual stage/street style to the story. Rocklands weaves back into their tales. ArtBeat http://facebook.com/artbeat.stars popup office promotes the results, news updates and opportunities. Ben Dodd is one of our connectors, yes, but also an experienced fashion industry expert mover shaker with many credentials for whats next. Between this action fraction, forthcoming project launches and artists that have come on board with what we are doing, this tingles. Our collective recent past colours the present to shape future adventures. Passion is key. Thank you family / friend circle (club 0-100) specially to Ru for the kind use of his images. As ever.
