Concert Program VI: Budapest Tuesday, July 31, 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Performing Arts at Menlo-Atherton kodály Duo for Violin and Cello, op. 7 bartók String Quartet no. 5 ligeti Ballad and Dance for Two Violins dohnányi Sextet in C Major for Winds, Strings, and Piano, op. 37 Western composers from Haydn and Mozart to Brahms were irresistibly drawn to the folk music of Central Europe, infusing some of their most popular works with its infectious spirit. With Hungarian music’s own nationalist movement in the early twentieth century, Budapest assumed even greater importance in Western classical music. Concert Program VI features performances by the Calidore String Quartet, pianist Gilles Vonsattel, New York Philharmonic Principal Clarinetist Anthony McGill, violinist Bella Hristova, and others.

The 2018 season’s final Concert Program celebrates Vienna—from the Classical era into the twentieth century, the indisputable capital of the Western musical world. Join us for an evening of works by great masters with performers including pianists Wu Han and Gilbert Kalish, violinists Arnaud Sussmann and Kristin Lee, violists Matthew Lipman and Richard O’Neill, and cellists Nicholas Canellakis and David Requiro.
