Brian Bùi COMPOSITION

This recital is presented as a degree requirement towards a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition. Brian Bùi is a senior Music Composition major at University of the Pacific. He has studied composition with Dr. Robert Coburn, Dr. Andrew Conklin, Dr. Eric Wood and Dr. Eric Dudley. As a first-generation VietnameseAmerican, Brian’s music explores not only his cultural roots, but also his experiences growing up in the U.S. He draws influences from musical genres such as jazz, classical, Latin, and most notably, Vietnamese traditional music. In addition to playing the piano, Brian plays the đàn tranh (Vietnamese 17-string zither). Under the instruction of đàn tranh master Vanessa Võ, Brian has played at the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival in San Francisco and at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi.
