The purpose of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Honor Society is to provide an organization dedicated to the furtherance of music in education and education in music in colleges, universities and other institutions of higher learning, which offer music degree programs in one or more fields. The primar y objective of the Society is the recognition and encouragement of the highest level of musical achievement and academic scholarship. The Society is convinced that recognizing and honoring persons who have enhanced their talents by serious, diligent and intelligent study will stimulate others to do the same.

Pi Kappa Lambda Scholarly Lecture Series:
All Performances Are Cancelled: Exploring the Effects of COVID-19 on College-Level Music Students Emily Broadhurst, Ed.D., MT-BC Casie Little, MA, MT-BC Vienna Sa, MA, MT-BC Abstract: This study aimed to identify specific factors influencing academic outcomes of music students during the COVID-19 pandemic using a mixed methods approach. Analysis controlled for basic health, safety, and emotional needs of students to better understand unique circumstances that have changed for music students, such as experiential musical opportunities. In this presentation, we will discuss our preliminary research findings and insights toward how music educators can better anticipate and meet student needs during remote learning for improved academic outcomes. We welcome your questions about our findings following the presentation.
