The University Symphony Orchestra is open to all students by audition. The orchestra performs a range of repertoire including Mahler’s Symphonies, new music, and works by underrepresented composers. It has collaborated with Composers Inc. in San Francisco, giving the premiere of three new major works by young American composers. Over the years, it has performed Charles Ives’s immense Fourth Symphony, Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony, and a concert version of Verdi’s La Traviata. Each year, the University Symphony Orchestra accompanies the winners of the Conservatory Concerto Competition.
