Andante - Allegro con anima Andante Cantabile, con alcuna licenza Valse: Allegro moderato Final: Andante maestoso - Allegro Vivace Dr. Nicolas Waldvogel conducts the University Symphony Orchestra and teaches conducting and music history at the University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music since 2001. He has guest conducted the Orchestra de la Suisse Romande (Switzerland) and the State Philharmonic “Dinu Lipatti” (Romania). He was a Conducting Fellow at the Tanglewood Festival, where he studied with Gustav Meier, Seiji Ozawa, and John Nelson. He also assisted Horst Stein in a production of Wagner’s Der Ring der Nibelungen at the Deutsche Oper, in Berlin. Dr. Waldvogel has performed with Yo-Yo Ma, with Anonymous 4, and with Alan Gilbert. His recent credits include a performance of Ives’s immense Fourth Symphony, Verdi’s La traviata, Mozart’s Così fan Tutte, Richard Einhorn’s Voices of Light, Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony and the complete symphonies by Jean Sibelius. He also wrote “Symphony”, an article for Oxford Bibliographies Online.
PERFORMERS AND BIOS Jun Lee is a senior at University of the Pacific Conservatory of Music, studying piano performance with Dr. Sonia Leong. During her studies at University of the Pacific, she was selected to perform on multiple concerts, including the Honor’s Recital and Prism Concert. In 2017, Jun was the second prize winner of Inaugural Pittsburgh International Piano Competition, giving her the honor to perform at Carnegie Hall for the Winner’s Concert. Outside of school, Jun currently works with Stockton Master Chorale as an accompanist, and she also enjoys teaching piano to children. After she graduates from University of the Pacific, Jun is planning on furthering her music studies as a graduate student. Marissa Staffero is a fourth year music education major at University of the Pacific where she studies viola with Igor Veligan. Marissa has been in many ensembles throughout her time at Pacific including the University Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Heavy Metal Orchestra, Contemporary Ensemble 28/78, and many different chamber groups. She is the Assistant Music Director/ Fraternity Education of the professional music fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota.
