Dear Friends of the Music Hall,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 season! As we embark on another exciting year, I am filled with pride for what we’ve achieved together, and I am excited to share some of our recent milestones, made possible by the strength of our community and partners. The Members Club, featuring McKeon’s Bar, opened this past year and has quickly become a beloved space for our most dedicated supporters. It’s been a joy to see it flourish, offering a special place for after work cocktails, pre-show gatherings and post-performance discussions.

Our Historic Theater has been strengthened and fortified with upgrades to our rigging system, by adding steel and replacing many parts that were nearly four decades old. This critical upgrade ensures the safety and quality of every performance we bring to our stage. It also secures our ability to present our holiday programming. This year we are celebrating the 10th performance of our cherished partnership with the Ogunquit Playhouse, featuring Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical. Our collaboration continues to bring Broadwaycaliber shows to our community, and this year promises to be another exceptional experience for families, friends and coworkers.

The team and I continue to work diligently on a number of growth opportunities and special projects to sustain and build future audiences for The Music Hall. This year we took over the management and programming of the New Hampshire Film Festival and we are committed to elevating this prestigious weekend of film to new heights. We are in the early phase but making significant progress on fundraising, designs and planning for our major seating project to enhance the comfort and accessibility for all guests. Finally, I’m thrilled to announce we will begin programming shows at the Whittemore Center in Durham, NH in 2025 starting with three-time Grammy nominees The Avett Brothers. This strategic programming objective will allow us to expand our reach and furthers our longstanding partnership with the University of New Hampshire, bringing exceptional performances to a broader audience.

As we look ahead, our commitment to artistic excellence, community engagement, and preserving the cultural legacy of The Music Hall remains as strong as ever. Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we will make this season truly unforgettable.

I have some great news to share, it’s all about you! It always has been and always will be. The Historic Theater, The Lounge, The Members Club, all of it is about you and pretty much only you.

Good to know, right?! Just when you thought someone else might be the reason they book all these great shows, clean the spaces, stock the bar, have an amazing team and so on and so on… It really is all about you. As it should be, of course.

Not only that but all the great restaurants up and down the streets of Portsmouth, the parks, the river, the energy and vibrancy that The Music Hall and the other great arts organizations bring to this small (ish!) town. They are all for you. And we are glad you are here, if you have been away we’ve missed you and if you haven’t left, then perhaps you need some new hobbies. But don’t change, we love that you are here as it gives us reason to get up and do it all over again.

So now that we have that clear, thanks for bringing your friends and family along as some of this could be for them too, even while being for you. A bonus.

By the way, even though The Music Hall is all about you, it managed to become the largest non-profit performing arts organization in NH. So, you must have a lot of friends! Well done.

’23-24 ANNUAL FUND

Your support provides arts and cultural experiences for our community.

As a non-profit, we rely on the generosity of friends like you to help us fulfill our mission to serve as an active and vital arts center for the enrichment of the Seacoast community.

Tax-deductible contributions in support of The Music Hall’s Annual Fund keep our performances and shows accessible to all, by keeping ticket costs down and spreading the incredible benefits of participation in the arts across our community. Through your support, we’re able to offer:

• our School Days Series of professional theater for young people, including scholarship support for schools serving students with limited financial means;

• our Give the Gift of Magic and Music program to provide complimentary tickets to neighbors in need;

• and many more educational and accessibility initiatives.

Annual Fund contributions also allow us to preserve and maintain our 145-year-old theater facilities to ensure that it maintains its status as the heart of the arts in the Seacoast for many years to come.

Our celebrated School Days series saw tremendous growth this past year as we went from three shows to six and provided twice as many students with artistic offerings that sparked delight and engagement. With your support, The Music Hall more than doubled scholarships to ensure our work is accessible.

TICKET FEES:

The fees you pay when purchasing tickets cover the expenses associated with offering both in-person and user-friendly online box office services. As labor and technology costs continue to rise, we continually work hard to manage our nonprofit business to keep ticket fees as low as possible while ensuring that they are considerably less than or on par with other venues, especially those who have outsourced their ticketing to national ticketing companies.

HISTORIC THEATER & LIVE UNDER THE ARCH EVENT TICKET FEES:

Phone and Online – $2.50 ($16 and under), $8.50 ($17 and above)

Walk-up – $8.50 ($30 and above)

THE MUSIC HALL LOUNGE EVENTS:

Online, Phone & Walk-up: $2.50 ($16 and under), $6 ($17 and above)

SHIPPING FEES:

Mailed tickets – $3 per order

GIFT CARDS: Give friends, family, and colleagues the gift of world-class entertainment all year round with Music Hall gift cards. Gift cards can be purchased at the Box Office and online.

REFUNDS & EXCHANGES: Can’t make a performance? Music Hall members at any level may return their tickets to the Box Office up to 48 hours before the event to receive a credit for the value of the tickets towards future ticket purchases. Credits are valid for 12 months after they are issued; after that time they are automatically transferred to support The Music Hall’s Give the Gift of Magic program. Individuals whose ticket credit is converted into supporting Give the Gift of Magic will be recognized in the Season Playbill. You may also donate the value of your tickets to The Music Hall at any time, and donations are taxdeductible. The Music Hall reserves the right to update the exchange policy; please inquire at the Box Office or visit our website. There are no refunds unless the show is canceled (fees are not refundable).

PATRON SERVICES AT THE MUSIC HALL

WEATHER: If the performers are at the theater, the show will go on! The Music Hall does not offer refunds or exchanges to those unable to attend an event because of weather; please see our exchange policy. Please check our website or contact the Patron Services team for the latest information if you have questions about upcoming performances.

PARKING: The Music Hall’s downtown campus does not include designated parking. The Foundry Place Garage (100 Foundry Place) is about a 5-minute walk from The Historic Theater, and the Hanover Parking Garage (2 Hanover Street) and Worth Parking Lot (25 Maplewood Avenue) are also within walking distance. We encourage all guests to visit www.ParkPortsmouth.com for the latest updates and parking options.

GENERAL POLICIES: No pets at events. No weapons or outside food and drink permitted in our buildings. Music Hall management reserves the right to refuse service.

GROUP SALES: Families, friends, and organizations of 10 or more can receive discounts on tickets, including 15% off for our holiday productions with the Ogunquit Playhouse. We also offer pre-show gathering spaces and other amenities as available. Please email groupsales@themusichall.org for more information about group sales for any event.

ACCESSIBILITY:

• The Historic Theater has a staffed elevator providing access to the orchestra level and concessions lobby. Stairs lead to the balcony from the orchestra level. Accessible restrooms are in the lower lobby. The Lounge has an elevator that leads to accessible restrooms and the exit on the lower level.

• To assist with seat comfort and visibility, booster cushions for children and seat and back cushions for adults are available at the Box Office.

• Assistive Listening Devices may be checked out from the Box Office.

• Wheelchair seating is available to patrons with disabilities and their guests. Our staff makes every effort to assist and accommodate all patrons.

• More information can be found on our website (TheMusicHall.Org/Accessibility). If you have questions about accessibility in either of our venues, please contact our Patron Services team, and our staff will do everything we can to accommodate you.

SENSORY SENSITIVITIES:

• Sensory bags are available to use during a performance.

• Each sensory bag contains an array of tools, including a wiggle cushion, sound reducing earmuffs, weighted lap blanket, sunglasses, fidget array and social story.

• Sensory bags may be checked out from the Historic Theater Box Office.

A passionate philanthropist, Dennis invested his time and resources in a diverse range of organizations, including The Music Hall. A lover of art, science, history, and nature, his unwavering and inspiring commitment to making a difference in the world made him a cherished member of the community.

1942-2024

Bill, a lifelong learner, was a devoted patron of The Music Hall. A longtime member, he was a Book Club fixture and regular at literary and musical events. As a champion of Music Hall programming, he was a generous supporter of and advocate for the arts.

EDWINNA CRESWICK VANDERZANDEN

1946-2023

A member of the Music Hall Board of Trustees from 1992 to 1998, Edwinna was instrumental in preserving our landmark 1878 Historic Theater. Loyal and generous, she was a devoted friend, active patron of the arts, and champion of many causes, from education (UNH) to medical care to conservation.

EMERGING ARTIST BENEFIT CONCERT

The Music Hall’s annual fundraising event, the Emerging Artist Benefit Concert supports our ability to present artists early in their careers, celebrating the next generation of superstars. For the second annual Emerging Artist Benefit on July 3, 2024 we were thrilled to present the incomparable Jason Mraz & The Superband. In demonstration of our commitment to nurturing artists, The Music Hall launched the Emerging Artist Grant Program in association with this benefit, awarding cash prizes to five musicians to help catapult their performance career to the next level. Two Grand Prize Winners opened for Jason Mraz: Sam Robbins and Dwayne Haggins, while three Emerging Artist Grant Winners performed during the pre-show festivities at The Lounge and on Chestnut Street: Skye Darling, Harrison Goodell, and Halley Neal. In addition to the financial support, The Music Hall team will assist grant recipients in making valuable connections with industry professionals.
