MUSIC NEWS Scotland talks to Wide Days showcase artist Angus Munro .....
Why does Glaswegian artist play to packed houses fifty miles away? After being on the road for thirteen years under various guises in differing genres, it would be safe to say that 26 year old Angus Munro has attracted quite an eclectic following. However while he is based in Glasgow; it is fifty miles away in Edinburgh where he has found his audience, regularly selling out shows and creating a buzz amongst local promoters. “Glasgow is one of the more popular music scenes north of London,” starts Angus, “but it’s the melting pot of international influences in culture particularly in the music scene - that’s really prominent in Edinburgh and I’m very much attracted to that.” As a piano-based artist, his songs draw more from the likes of Billy Joel and Disney musicals than that of other Scottish based acts who are more folk and traditionally inclined. It is his four octave vocal range, however, that is causing a stir and needs to be seen up close to be believed. “It’s something I found I was able to do whilst playing with puppets for my little sister” he laughs, “I still do it for my niece, but she’s not as impressed - maybe I’m losing my touch!” Angus is opening Wide Days Showcase night at The Pleasance Theatre on Thursday 10 April at 7pm. Tickets are completely free and available from: www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/wide-days-2014-showcases-the-pleasance-theatre-tickets-10866940311
