KUNG FU ACADEMY, HOTSTUFF & THE EYECANDY, VELCROLOVE; Kung Fu Academy, Combining infectious funk rhythms with lush harmonies and fantastic pop hooks, Kung Fu Academy were formed by four music students randomly put together for, what was initially, a one off performance. The chemistry clear, the band continued outwith their course. Gigging rigorously since their formation in early 2011, the band performed at top venues in Glasgow and Edinburgh cementing a reputation as a formidable live act - whilst writing and recording their selfproduced début EP Dirty Honey. 2012 saw the band continue with their relentless work ethic: gigging throughout the central belt and recording their second EP. Hotstuff & The Eyecandy After growing tired of the same old rock/punk band sound and set up Hotstuff embarked on a voyage of nonsence and self discovery. It didnt take long for them to realise that noises can be very fun, very dark and very VERY provocative! Velcrolove A new and exciting band from Paisley. APRIL Edinburgh’s Youth ‘Easter’ Gaitherin Edinburgh April 2 – 5 The Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin was set up in 1995 by a group of parents who wanted to provide an opportunity for young people from across the city to come together and learn skills in traditional Scottish music. Over the past 15 years we have grown from strength to strength and, in addition to the hugely popular annual Easter event, EYG has a year-round programme of workshops and performance opportunities for young people aged 9 – 25. These opportunities range from the weekly Craigmillar Ceilidh Club and Wester Hailes Music Mondays where young people can learn skills in singing, song writing, guitar, fiddle and keyboard to performance opportunities at international festivals abroad! EYG’s flagship Easter event takes place during the Easter holidays. Around 120 young people (P5 - S6) take part in four days of workshops led by some of the country’s finest traditional musicians. The event is supported by a team of volunteers and workshop range from fiddle and accordion to song writing and internet radio production. The Edinburgh Youth Gaitherin is for anyone; whether you’ve never played before, only just started, or you are an experienced player or singer. You don’t need to have experience of traditional music or be able to read music to enjoy EYG events. www.eyg.org.uk
