Calmac On Board With New Three-Year Deal For HebCelt Hebrides :: 17-20 July :: www.hebceltfest.com BUY YOUR TICKETS @ www.hebceltfest.com/booking/

CalMac Ferries will become a floating ceilidh for thousands of music fans heading to this year’s Hebridean Celtic Festival. CalMac Ferries, operators of the UllapoolStornoway service, have agreed a new, threeyear sponsorship deal with the internationallyrenowned HebCelt, which is being held for the 24th time in Lewis and Harris this summer. During festival week, from 17-20 July, the ‘Loch Seaforth’ will be re-named the ‘HebCelt Ferry’ and will have a pop-up information and tickets office on board and also a festival-themed menu in its restaurant. To mark the start of HebCelt 2019, and get visitors in the mood for the four-day event, music sessions featuring a trio of musicians from Fèis Rois, the Gaelic arts and music organisation, will be held on board the ferry sailing from Ullapool at 10.30am and returning from Stornoway at 2pm on both Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 July.

this year the company will be more ‘hands-on’ with four senior members of staff signing up to join the volunteer army that helps keep the festival running.

The young musicians, including graduates from Fèis Rois’s performance group, The Kiltearn Fiddlers, are Iain-Gordon Macfarlane, from Ullapool, (fiddle); Charlotte Taylor, from Strathpeffer, (fiddle) and Sean Clark. from Evanton, (guitar)

David Gibson, CalMac’s Service Delivery Director; Andrew Macnair, the Head of Marketing; Clare MacNeill, Manager of the company’s Tour Shop in Fort William; and Shona Acford, the Port Manager in Oban, will be helping with duties ranging from ticket collection to keeping the site clean.

CalMac has a long association with HebCelt and

international event that brings thousands of people to Stornoway and the islands each year, with most of them arriving by ferry. “It’s great for us to continue our long-standing relationship with the festival and help it grow. By volunteering this year we will get a chance to be even more involved and support an event that means so much to the communities we serve.” Festival Director Caroline Maclennan said: “CalMac has been an outstanding supporter of the festival for nearly all its 24 years and we are delighted we can rely on them for some time to come. “The sight of ferries bringing in much of our audience and talent is such an important part of the week and having musicians playing on board seemed to be a natural extension of the festival.” Fiona Dalgetty, Chief Executive of Fèis Rois, said: “Fèis Rois is well known for its music courses, festivals and events throughout the year in Ullapool. We are delighted to make this connection with CalMac and HebCelt to provide musicians on the ferry in the run up to the festival. “It is a brilliant opportunity for our young musicians to play to new audiences, and for audiences to enjoy music as soon as they set sail from the mainland.” HebCelt 2019 will run from 17-20 July and will feature almost 30 international acts in the main arena programme – including headliners KT Tunstall, The Shires and Tide Lines - as well as events in various venues in Lewis and Harris.

10th Tiree Music Festival Unveils Callum Beattie As Final Headliner Special opening party and official mascot also unveiled for Tiree’s 10th anniversary Tiree :: 12-14 July :: www.tireemusicfestival.co.uk BUY YOUR TICKETS @ SOLD OUT!

Scottish singer-songwriter sensation Callum Beattie has been announced as the final headline act at this year’s Tiree Music Festival. He will make the journey west to Tiree in July to join in the event’s 10th anniversary celebrations, which will also see the addition of an extra night of entertainment on Thursday 11 July. The festival will host an opening party for festival-goers arriving on the island early, while the 10th year of the festival also sees the arrival of official TMF mascot, Fergie. A former finalist of the TMF Unsigned competition eight years ago, it is fitting that Callum Beattie makes his long-awaited TMF debut headlining the ELEVATE stage, which is programmed specifically to promote Scotland’s rising stars. Callum’s musical journey in the past eight years has seen him perform at the likes of Glastonbury, support The Kooks on their headline European tour along with Blossoms and air the world premiere of his latest single on BBC Radio 2. After Tiree, he will travel to London to support Robbie Williams in Hyde Park. Callum, who will headline the ELEVATE Stage, said: ““I can’t wait to play Tiree Music Festival and be part of such a unique, friendly festival in a beautiful part of Scotland. To be headlining the ELEVATE stage and playing alongside so many great young Scottish acts will be a real joy. Fingers crossed the sun will be shining down on all of us and we can have a right good knees-up in Scotland’s answer to Hawaii!” Launched last year and funded by Creative Scotland, the outdoor ELEVATE Stage showcases the best talent on the Scottish music scene with its line-up focusing on up-and-coming Scottish artists. Remaining acts announced to join Callum on the Elevate Stage at this year’s sold out event include SIAN, a trio of Scotland’s finest Gaelic singers, five-piece Celtic-infused Americana band The Dirty Beggars, Glasgow trad band The Hur, rising folk stars Eabhal and young folk based traditional band from Argyll, Rhuvaal. The impressive roster of young talent joins a packed TMF 10 bill announced at a special night at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket in January which includes TMF stalwarts Skerryvore, who have performed at every festival since it began, Tide Lines, Sandi Thom, Mànran, Niteworks, Trail West, Gunna Sound, Face the West, Funbox and Heron Valley.

Callum Beattie :: www.facebook.com/callumbeattieofficial

The inaugural Tiree Music Festival took place in July 2010 and was attended by a capacity crowd of 600. The annual event has since flourished with an increased 2100-strong capacity – an attendance that is three times the population of the island. The festival offers a diverse programme with a mixture of genres including folk, pop and indie. Artists across the years have included The Fratellis, Dougie MacLean, Sharon Shannon, The Levellers, Capercaillie, Sandi Thom and Eddi Reader.

Tiree Music Festival prides itself on being a family friendly festival and this The Island of Tiree is often dubbed “The Hawaii of the North” and with year, the new official mascot - fun-loving Highland cow Fergie - designed picture-perfect white sands and world-famous surf, a trip to Tiree Music by local schoolboy Rhys, will be on hand to encourage children and Festival is a real Island adventure, often described as one of the most families to get moo-ving and join in with all the action over the weekend. stunning festival locations in the world. Daniel Gillespie, Artistic Director for Tiree Music Festival, said: “We www.tireemusicfestival.co.uk can’t wait to welcome Callum Beattie to Tiree stage eight years after he www.twitter.com/TireeMusicFest was a finalist in our TMF Unsigned competition. We have followed his www.facebook.com/TireeMusicFestival career since and he is a true example of the sensational musical talent we have in Scotland. “2019 is a year of celebrations for TMF as we toast our 10th birthday and to make it the biggest and best TMF yet we are delighted to open the weekend with a special party on Thursday night. We’re also excited to unveil our official Highland cow mascot Fergie who will be roaming around the festival all weekend long.” A unique collaboration will also take place at TMF 10. Waiting on a Sunny Day: TMF’s Tribute to ‘The Boss’ will be a collective performance from some artists on the Scottish folk scene who have been inspired by the one and only Bruce Springsteen. The title is also a nod to the unpredictable weather the festival has had over the past few years, with TMF using the hashtag #waitingonasunnyday for this year’s festival.

Edinburgh’s The Soundhouse Organisation presents 3X5 three of the most exciting 5-piece cross-genre acoustic bands from Scotland - Moishe’s Bagel, John Goldie & The High Plains and Kinnaris Quintet – with three individual concerts, and one almighty showcase of all three in one show.

Moishe’s Bagel :: www.moishesbagel.com

All presented in one of the most unusual and original venues at this year’s Fringe. The bands produce ingenious and highly listenable music, transcending categorisation, and appealing to lovers of music in all its forms. They represent what Scottish musicians excel at: melding a variety of styles, influences and origins to make exciting, worldleading sounds.

John Goldie is one of the best acoustic guitarists in the world right now. He is joined by his brand new backing band, The High Plains. Playing original tunes, The High Plains is made up of some of the most accomplished string players in folk, jazz and classical music.

Soundhouse favourites Moishe’s Bagel play thrillingly original cutting-edge klezmer and folk music. An intoxicating, life-affirming mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances. Their long anticipated 5th album will be launched at their gig.

Kinnaris Quintet is one of Scotland's hottest new folk bands. The line-up is a marriage of five exquisite musicians from diverse musical backgrounds, influences and styles, all distilled into beautifully crafted and powerful arrangements. Medleying between new compositions, traditional Scottish and Irish, Bluegrass, Old-Time and Classical music, they produce a sound which is uplifting, honest and powerful. Pianodrome at The Pitt is a brand new venue for Edinburgh Fringe 2019, a custom made auditorium, built entirely from up-cycled pianos. Five pianos are tuned for all to play and over fifty more are used to build a circle of tiered seating. Pianodrome is a radical re-imagining of what the piano is and can be in today’s throw-away culture. Originally created for the Botanics in 2018, The Pianodrome has a new home this year, moving to the Leith-based Pitt Street Market. Lammermuir Festival East Lothian 13-22 September

So why is the UGF so special? Perhaps it’s the mix of music old and new, of electric and acoustic, of steel and nylon, of seasoned performers and those, like the students from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, just starting out on their careers. Perhaps it’s the location on Loch Broom and the drive up through some of Scotland’s most spectacular scenery. Perhaps it’s the informal air of the whole weekend: there’s no “us and them”, no VIP area. Everyone mingles, and you’re likely to find yourself sitting beside a guitar legend in the Festival Club – or even jamming with them on one of the trade stands.

Lammermuir Festival, established in 2010 by Artistic Directors Hugh Macdonald and James Waters, runs from 13 to 22 September in beautiful venues around East Lothian. The festival won the 2017 Royal Philharmonic Society Award for Best Concert Series and Festival, and features several of Scotland's leading ensembles, internationally renowned musicians and exciting new talent. It has a close ongoing relationship with BBC Radio 3. www.ullapoolguitarfestival.com www.lammermuirfestival.co.uk
