THE ENEMY TO HEADLINE
LOOPALLU 2013 Buy your tickets now via Skiddle, link: http://bit.ly/11AY2rl
Loopallu organisers are delighted to announce that the first headliner for the ninth edition of Loopallu will be indie rock outfit THE ENEMY. Rising to fame in 2007 with their debut album 'We'll Live and Die in These Towns' smashing straight into the number one spot, THE ENEMY have had a string of hits including 'Away From Here' and 'Had Enough' becoming anthems for a generation. Their second album 'Music for the People' reached number two in the UK album charts and 2012's 'Streets in the Sky' was another top ten hit which cemented their place as a force to be reckoned with and shows why the band are set to blow the roof off Loopallu’s Big Top. Joining them are eighties 2-Tone legends THE BEAT. Formed in Birmingham in 1978, part of the West Midlands ska revival scene that also produced The Specials and The Selecter, THE BEAT are known the world over for smash hit singles including "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Too Nice To Talk To", "Can't Get Used To Losing You", "Hands off She's Mine" and "All Out To Get You". Their songs of peace, love and unity fuse ska, pop, reggae and punk rock and their dynamic live show has garnered them a loyal following at home and abroad. Also confirmed is folk star RODDY WOOMBLE who's previous guise as Idlewild frontman saw him string up twelve top forty singles, tour the world and even support acts such as U2, The Rolling Stones and REM

The last time Dave Webster attended the Hebridean Celtic Festival he hitch-hiked to Lewis and blagged a volunteer’s job as part of the stage crew. In July he will be back, this time on stage as part of an award-winning group who are one of this year’s must-see acts.
Festivals are increasingly a major part of a band’s year and Dave, who is joined in the band by Stevie Anderson, Gavin McGinty, Robbie Ward and Billy Fisher, is a big fan: “Festivals are one of the few opportunities you get as a musician to wander round a field and just listen to other music. Usually when bands are playing in town we're either out of town or playing somewhere else so you don't get a chance to catch everyone you hear about on the circuit. “We did loads of festivals last year and created loads of great memories, but skinny dipping in the North Atlantic after playing at Tiree Music Festival will be something I laugh about for many years.
It added to an already successful year with the band being asked to record a soundtrack for a new Tennents beer commercial which saw them cover the classic ‘Caledonia’ by Dougie MacLean who is also appearing at this year’s HebCelt. “It’s a great song and had been covered by so many people so to put our own slant on it was a bit tricky but I think we got there. Working with Dougie was wonderful . He's a great man whom we all have the greatest respect for and I believe we've built up a great friendship with him and his family.”

Returning for a third year, the Tiree Music Festival (TMF) Unsigned Act contest is back by overwhelming demand and the competition is set to be bigger and fiercer than ever. The winning act will open the festival main stage on Saturday 20 July, preceding a stellar line-up including Capercaillie, Roddy Hart & The Lonesome Fire and Skerryvore. Acts have just seven days from Tuesday 11 June to enter by emailing a track, video or link to unsigned@tireemusicfestival.co.uk Scotland’s Best Small Festival has already had to increase capacity to accommodate a record number of ticket sales after music lovers snapped up the initial allocation for the event. With new sponsorship from asset management and advisory service, Cairn Capital and more bands added to its already fantastic line up, the Inner Hebrides festival is certainly the place to be for unsigned bands looking to showcase their talent. After entries close on 18 June, the TMF panel will then select finalists from the list of entrants before putting it to the public vote on Twitter and Facebook. In a special twist, renowned Scottish radio personality, Jim Gellatly – dubbed ‘The voice of new music in Scotland’ - will then face the arduous task of choosing his favourite act from the runners up who will then get to perform the opening slot for Sunday’s bill (21 July). Says Jim “I’m really looking forward to being part of TMF Unsigned and I know it’s going to end up being really difficult to choose a winner as there is so much talent in Scotland. Tiree is a brilliant festival and I can’t wait to see the winners open the festival”

Visitors, exhibitors and artists gave the inaugural Edinburgh Guitar & Music Festival a “thumbs up” as sunny bank holiday weather and a huge programme of events enticed guitar enthusiasts to the city’s Corn Exchange. MENDELSSOHN ON MULL CELEBRATES 25 YEARS Mull : 1-6 July : www.mendelssohnonmull.com As a young man, the composer Felix Mendelssohn made a life changing journey through Scotland to Mull where he found inspiration to write one of his most famous pieces – The Hebrides Overture, Fingal’s Cave. Each year the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival, under the artistic directorship of Levon Chilingirian invites a small group of young professional musicians at the start of their careers to take part in an extraordinary week of discovery and performance. They are mentored by highly experienced players of chamber music, and perform to audiences in such diverse venues as the tiny Creich Church, which seats about 50 people, and the imposing grandeur of Duart Castle’s Great Hall.
www.guitarandmusicfestivals.com The idea is simple - to bring a new generation of musicians into contact with seasoned professional mentors in relaxed and stunning surroundings, away from the treadmill and stresses of the professional music circuit. The Young Professionals are divided into three groups which workshop repertoire with experienced mentors. They then perform a series of free concerts in venues across Mull, Iona and in Oban in stunning venues such as Glengorm Castle, Duart Castle, Salen Church and Iona Abbey. This year's mentors are Levon Chilingirian, Gaby Lester, Susie Mészáros, Marcia Crayford, and Stephen Orton. For further information about the festival, the venues and the Young Professionals taking part visit www.mendelssohnonmull.com
This year the Mendelssohn on Mull Festival will be celebrating 25 years of incredible music making. For the Young Professionals taking part this is a vital opportunity to gain performance experience and hone their skills with the help of seasoned professionals in a relaxed and focussed environment: How it Works .....
