Québecois Band Bring French Connection To Hebcelt 2015 Stornoway : 15-19 July : www.hebceltfest.com

the mns collection ….

TICKETS! @ www.hebceltfest.com/booking It may be the historic connections, the mutual appreciation of traditional music, or just the shared love of having a good time, but Le Vent du Nord have a special affinity with Scottish audiences. Since first coming to the attention of music fans in Scotland more than a decade ago, the multi-awardwinning four-piece from Quebec have built up a considerable following due to their catchy, foottapping songs which are a mix of traditional tunes and original compositions. HebCelt fans will hear some old favourites as well as new songs from their eighth album, released in March, when they perform at the festival’s 20th anniversary this summer. “We have a special relationship with Scottish audiences”, said Olivier Demers, one of the group’s singers and multi-instrumentalists who made such an impact at Celtic Connections this year. “We are kind of cousins of the Celts, as so many Scots and Irish came to Quebec in the 19th century. I think that connection is obvious when you listen to traditional music from Quebec. It has changed over the years, but traditional music has always been in evolution.”

because the ferry had engine trouble. It was the first boat on a Sunday to come to the island if I remember correctly. We arrived straight from the ferry to the gig, did a short soundcheck and played. “It was quite a day. We met lots of nice people some are still good friends - and I'm sure we will have another great time at HebCelt this year.” Since their formation in 2002, Le Vent du Nord have played more than 1,400 concerts but the band, who are regarded as key players in Quebec’s traditional folk music revival, seem to be enjoying life on the road as much as ever. Rejean Brunet, one of the other band members, explains: “We have fun doing it for many reasons. We feel privileged to do this as a full-time job and we want to continue to grow as musicians, being as creative as possible. Also, playing our music to an audience is a real honour and seeing them enjoying themselves is a great pleasure. “We get really excited when summer comes and we are playing festivals like HebCelt. Playing outside to an audience who want to have a good time and have been looking forward to it for a year makes it special. “They will be there with families and friends - and a beer of course - remembering stories from past festivals and getting ready to enjoy themselves. Outdoor festivals have such a powerful energy because of all that.”

This year’s HebCelt, which runs from 15-18 July in Stornoway, will also feature acts including Idlewild, The group are looking forward to a return visit to Afro Celt Sound System, Treacherous Orchestra, the HebCelt where they last played in 2009 at an Lanntair arts centre in Stornoway. This time they will Karen Matheson Band, Chastity Brown, Raghu Dixit feature on the festival main stage and hope they will and Salsa Celtica. have a little more time to prepare: “It is always great www.hebceltfest.com to visit the Scottish islands; Lewis is particularly https://twitter.com/HebCelt superb”, said Olivier. www.facebook.com/HebCelt “Our last visit was very intense.
