Championships. This started as a fun event but is becoming a heritage event as fewer and fewer younger people have played or even heard of the Paper’n’Comb as a musical instrument. This year’s theme is the Rocky Horror Comb Show, fancy dress is optional. In the evening there is a concert in the Town Hall featuring Orcadian group Fara, Archie Fisher and Mike McGoldrick and friends. There are also late night concerts in the Royal British Legion and sessions and sinagorounds. Sunday morning starts with another unique event - the Aqua Ceilidh in the Town’s Open Air Pool . Balancing artist time for concerts, sound checks, workshops, sessions and food and Accommodation has been compared to herding cats – but it is all very satisfying when once it is up and running and all the hard work pays off”. The first of 2 stand-alone mini-festival days is on Saturday 8th July – the Strange Behaviours Summer Party. The other will come later in the year. Multiple stages featuring the most innovative, fun, thrilling, living-breathing-touring-eatingrecording-partying-writing-sleeping-DIY bands from across the country come together to make one hell of a racket. Some of the most vital and real music from the world of Scottish music, all under one roof.

Records imprint Geographic. (Listen)

Graham Costello’s STRATA – mind-blowing minimalist/prog-jazz fusion quintet orchestrated and led by the peerless Graham Costello (drummer with Young Philadelphia / Outblinker). Encorporating the unusual time signatures and bombast of some seminal math rock and post rock bands (Don Caballero / Do Make Say Think / Battles) with the nuance, subtlety, structure and dynamism of Costello and the band’s jazz background (Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). Unbelievable. Don’t miss. Actually, if PAWS – thrilling live band / physically incapable you play drums/keys/guitar/bass/sax and enjoy of writing a bad song / caught somewhere doing so, maybe you should give it a miss. A wonderful between 90s US indie and punk, band with musicianship so hot that it may stop garage and pop-punk. Tirelessly touring the UK/ you from picking up your instrument ever US/Europe, releasing sublime records on Fat again. (Listen) Cat, one of Scotland’s finest and hardest Passion Pusher – loose and slacker to the working bands. (Listen) brink of acerbity, expect harsh and dissonant Loki – forefather of Scottish hip-hop uprising, fuzzed out guitars, slurred vocals, tongues in cutting/hilarious/unhinged/wildly articulate/ cheeks and bittersweet obscured pop. (Listen) thought-provoking supernova with (maybe) Canal Capitale – one of the finest math rock swansong album ‘Trigger Warning’ a last swipe bands in the country, tight as all hell without at the best and worst of Scottish and British ever loosing the raw force and delicacy of society. One of your last chances to see him seminal math rock bands like Pele, Faraquet, live. (Listen) American Football and early Foals.
