Following on from the success of last year’s event, double award winning Glen’s Party at The Palace has announced the acts that will top the bill for 2018. Taking the top spots this year are James (Saturday) and Texas (Sunday). Now in its fifth year, Glen’s Party at The Palace has become a real family favourite and this year’s two-day spectacular is set to be another highlight in Scotland’s live music calendar. The festival directors are thrilled to be bringing two of the biggest bands in the country to Linlithgow. Event Director John Richardson said: “These two bands have been on our wish list for some time and we are absolutely delighted that they are coming to party with us this summer. Both bands have been producing great music for the last 30 years and they are still at the very top of their game.” The complete line up will be announced in due course, and we'll bring you all the details in MNS.

The internationallycelebrated Hebridean Celtic Festival has elevated an already star-studded line-up this year with the addition of The Fratellis to its headline acts. The Glasgow trio, known for hits such as ‘Chelsea Dagger’ and ‘Whistle for the Choir’ release their fifth album, ‘In Your Own Sweet Time’ next month and will be touring the UK and US this year, and they will headline the Friday night programme for the award-winning HebCelt, which will run from 18-21 July in Stornoway in the island of Lewis. Tickets are now on sale for Tiree Music Festival (TMF), the festival will run from Friday 13th – Sunday 15th July. Early bird tickets sold out in less than 48 hours in November for the multi award-winning festival. Brand-new to TMF 2018 will be the ELEVATE STAGE. This new outdoor stage will showcase the best talent on the Scottish music scene with its line-up focusing on up-and-coming Scottish artists. As well as opportunities for young musicians performing on the stage, the festival has also appointed a Youth Artistic Programmer to take the lead on the programming of this stage.

The ELEVATE STAGE at Tiree Music Festival 2018 is supported by the Year of Young People 2018 event fund, managed by EventScotland and part of VisitScotland’s Events Directorate. During 2018 Scotland will put its young people in the spotlight, celebrating their talents, contributions and creating new opportunities for them to shine. The Year of Young People 2018 is a year-long programme of events and activities that will give young people in Scotland the opportunity to show the world what they are made of.
Thirteen young people applied for the role of Youth Artistic Programmer at TMF and the organising team were amazed at the high calibre of entries. After much consideration Jamie MacDonald, who is from the Isle of Tiree and has recently graduated with first class BA Honours Degree in Applied Music, has been confirmed as the successful candidate. Hidden Door 2018 reveals a diverse programme of music, visual art, theatre, film, spoken word and dance with an all-star cast of collaborators. The festival has steadily grown in size and reputation since it began in 2014, when it cleared out the abandoned Market Street vaults to run a 9-day arts festival focused on showcasing local creative talent. In 2015 the festival moved to a hidden courtyard behind Kings’ Stables Road, and returned to the same site in 2016, attracting over 12,000 visitors to experience a wealth of art, poetry, theatre, cinema, dance and music. In 2017 the festival breathed new life into the old Leith Theatre, attracting rave reviews and critical praise for its role in resurrecting “Scotland’s best new live
music venue”, also winning a VisitScotland Scottish Thistle Award for “Best Cultural Event or Festival”. Hidden Door is an arts organisation which aims to open up urban spaces as a platform for new and emerging artists, musicians, theatre makers, performers, film makers and poets. Through organising temporary events Hidden Door works to showcase new work and create engaging environments for the public to experience, explore and discover. 2018 will see an expanded programme of tours, talks, workshops and a full symposium exploring the challenges facing emerging creative artists and performers in Scotland today. Tectonics Glasgow, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra’s festival of new and experimental music, returns this May to once again push the boundaries of what music can be. The festival brings together international and local artists, composers and performers from the worlds of classical, experimental, rock, noise, sound art, dance and visual art for two days of exploratory music-making in Glasgow on 5 and 6 May. There’s a Japanese theme to parts of this year’s events with 80s cult duo Syzygys headlining Saturday night, Osaka-based artist Tetsuya Umeda exploring the acoustics of Glasgow’s City Halls and Old Fruitmarket , and a new work by New York’s Miya Masaoka which uses the koto, a traditional Japanese instrument. Masaoka also collaborates with British sax virtuoso Tony Bevan, just one of several sax performers which include Mats Gustafsson, Dror Feiler, Sue McKenzie and Laura Macdonald. Local performers Acrid Lactations (Susan Fitzpatrick and Stuart Arnot) give a solo set on Sunday and join Joe Posset for his Grand Dictaphone Jaxx, plus a new work from Tina Krekels. There are World Premieres for the BBC SSO from Naomi Pinnock, Evan Johnson and Dror Feiler, and two BBC Commissions from James Clarke and Marc Sabat. Plus the European Premiere of Ashley Fure’s piece Bound to the Bow, named a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in Music. French composer Pascale Criton brings a new piece to the festival along with her regular collaborators and performers Silvia Tarozzi and Deborah Walker. They are joined by one of the world’s leading exponents of the ondes Martenot, Nathalie Forget, who opens the festival with the unmistakable sound of this unique instrument. The majority of performances will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
