'Maidens of Music' Festival in Dumfries to celebrate female musicians every Saturday in May Dumfries : Each Saturday in May : www.maidensofmusic.co.uk Maidens of Music kicks off this Saturday 7 May showcasing 60+ female artists, and it continues every Saturday in May, celebrating female musicians and inspiring those who have never performed to give it a go.

The Line up for the 2016 Stonehaven Folk Festival is looking better than ever with some of the top bands such as Blazin’ Fiddles, Daimh, Saltfishforty leading the way and some of the best of the new ones such as the Scott Wood Band and Dallahan.
For the more traditional taste on the Sunday afternoon, there is Tradition Bearers Concert featuring some of the best traditional singers. This year’s guests are Grace Toland, Peta Webb, Ken Hall and Jim Taylor. A range of workshops will be held on the Saturday and Sunday for Fiddle, Guitar, Singing, Mandolin Whistle/Flute, these will be tutored by many of the festival guests.
The festival is held in the town of Stonehaven, just south of Aberdeen over the weekend of 710 July with a mix of Concerts, Ceilidh, Sessions and Workshops throughout the weekend. Guitar virtuoso Tony McManus will be appearing and also hosting a workshop on Saturday 9 July. There is a family show on the Saturday afternoon with Artie’s Tartan Tales hosted by Artie Trezise (ex Singing Kettle) with a mix of stories songs and a lot of humour for all the family. There is a growing Festival Fringe with late night concerts at the Royal British Legion and “secret singing sessions” as well as annual favourites the World Paper’n’Comb Championships and the Aqua Ceilidh in the town’s open air pool. One highlight we feel is worth taking the time to absorb is this year's 'Trad Talk' on Sunday 8 May with the theme 'Crossing The Boundaries – Diversity In The Traditional Arts'. Tickets for the award-winning Hebridean Celtic Festival are selling faster this year than at any time during the event’s 21-year history! With ten weeks still to go, organisers have reached 80 per cent of their sales target and are fast running out of weekend tickets for the four-day festival. The opening show is sold out and closing show tickets are in hot demand. Overall sales have already surpassed those for the 2014 and 2015 festivals, with 65 per cent of tickets being snapped up by fans living outside HebCelt’s base in the island of Lewis, confirming its reputation for attracting huge numbers of visitors. The 21st HebCelt will be held from 13-16 July in Stornoway. Runrig will close the ‘coming of age’ celebrations on Saturday, 16 July during a nationwide tour in support of their 14th - and last studio album, The Story, which was released in January.
Chilli Pipers, Hayseed Dixie, Astrid, Julie Fowlis, King Creosote and Breabach. Festival director Caroline Maclennan said: “We are extremely pleased with the ticket sales this year. This is easily our best performance ever, with big spikes firstly when we announced Runrig and put weekend tickets on sale back in November, and then when we released day tickets at the end of February. “Since then sales have remained healthy and we are heading for a record year. We now have limited availability for weekend and Saturday tickets across all ranges and our opening show in An Lanntair has sold out. “Runrig are obviously a huge draw, especially in our unique setting in the Gaelic heartland, but we have a large and varied programme with a host of great acts which will appeal to our international audience.” HebCelt has grown from a small event attracting less than 1,000 fans, to an international showpiece for roots, Celtic and traditional music, drawing an audience of around 15,000. It is estimated it has generated more than £20 million for the local economy over two decades.

McEwan’s Party At The Palace is delighted to reveal the latest artists who have been added to the line up for The Star & Garter stage at this year’s festival. Organiser John Richardson said: “Introducing a second stage to McEwan’s Party at The Palace was always part of our plan to grow the event and we are delighted that it is happening this year. With such a strong line up on the main stage, we needed a selection of acts that would compliment rather than compete for our audience on site. Every band that we have playing seems to have a story to tell or a connection with the event in some way. Katie Doyle - Following a great tradition of singer songwriters to hail from Paisley, Katie has already wowed the audiences of venues as famous as the Albert Hall in London. Saskia Eng - Saskia got in touch with PATP back in 2014 to ask if she could play. At the time she was only 12 years old and we asked her to wait a little longer. She gave us two years and chapped our door again. She already has a list of impressive achievements, performing to thousands of football fans on the pitch at half time at Hearts FC and winning Forth 1’s Edinburgh’s Got Talent. Declan Welsh - Declan has recently been on the road supporting The Proclaimers, Echo and The Bunnymen, Ocean Colour Scene and many others, telling stories of love, hate, equality and girls from Bearsden. Saraswati - Leeds born Saraswati has been spending a lot of time in Scotland recording her debut album with Scots pop guru John McLaughlin. You’ll hear two of her songs on the new film Brotherhood that hits the screens later
in the year. The Luci Bains Band - Tipped for big things and signed to a major label many years ago, this will be the bands first gig in years. It looks like half of Greenock is making their way to Linlithgow to see them. Altinak - A garage band in the true sense of the word. These local high school pupils rehearse twice a week in the drummer’s garage beside the barbecue, the fishing rods and the toolbox. Into The Ark - Hotly tipped to be one this years’ one to watch bands. Managed by the man that discovered and nurtured Paulo Nutini, we are super excited about having these guys at our event. Apache Darling - having won last years battle of the bands competition and doing a great job as opening act, we invited them back again this year to perform a bit higher up the bill. Having played T in the Park and sell out shows at King Tuts, their brand of infectious electronic pop is winning over an army of fans. Kelvin - Another one that we believe will be destined for greatness, this four piece from Glasgow have just released their second single “Chase” and have been receiving great reviews and airplay across the UK. Sinderins - Coming down the road from Dundee and headlining our second stage on Saturday 13th, Sinderins brand of folk and pop is the perfect match ahead of The Proclaimers on the main stage. Anthony McElwee - Another invader from Greenock, Anthony is a singer songwriter, storyteller and all round good egg. Gavin Blackie - Another previous winner of the Edinburgh Evening News and Forth 1 “Edinburgh’s Got Talent competition, Gavin has since went on to perform at sell out shows in his home town of Edinburgh and released his debut album last year. Katee Kross - One of those quirks of fate. Katee was spotted singing at the folk festival in Linlithgow last summer. Sadly, it was outdoors, pouring with rain and the audience was rather thin. But she made enough of an impression on

Crystal - Singer Anna Shields is a regular face on Glasgow’s Buchanan Street. Her impromptu busking sessions has drawn her to the attention of record labels and producers from across the country and even led to a spending time in Abbey Road Studio with Mark Ronson last year. Ashton Lane - Naming yourself after one of the finest streets in Glasgow, famed for its atmosphere, was a brave move. However, the band somehow manages to capture this atmosphere in their own brand of folk and country music. Don’t miss them!

Popular independent music shop Europa Music is to host a stage at Stirling’s Scribbler’s Picnic Music Festival on Sunday 8 May for the first time.

Piping Live! Glasgow's International Piping Festival, the world’s biggest week of piping, will return to Glasgow from 8-14 August. Now in its 13th year, Piping Live! is the biggest festival of its kind. Attracting 40,000 people from around the globe each year to watch over 5000 international pipers perform at 150 events across the city. Some of the hottest names in traditional music will perform this year, including RURA, Anxo Lorenzo, Ross Ainslie & Ali Hutton and the world famous Red Hot Chilli Pipers.
